Oh, wow. That tyranid is massive! I wasn't expecting it to be that big :O Also, I voted assault marines. Mainly because the past day or two I've been thinking about the potential of a full assault marine unit in a biker army

I've got 30 assault marines to do so if they win I will be very busy. May just do 1 squad if they win
Just sawed and basic filed the main fuselage of the thunderhawk so have dry fitted it and it's not yo badly warped.
Going to mark out all the magnet and pin points tomorrow before I wash it all in the bath. Going for a similar buil to hazard syndrome on YouTube. Check his vids out, the nightlife thawing looks amazing.
Will take a photo of dry fit and load up tomorrow.

Dry fit of thunderhawk fuselage before magnets or wash....
I'm excited to build this (plus it looks like I may be building some Stormravens due to the poll) and will post as it goes along. Tonight will see either some more cleaned up pieces or the pinning and magnetizing of weapons/wings.
Ideas, C&C welcome as ever Automatically Appended Next Post: Bit of a plug guys but check out www.TiatanTerrainStudio.com for some really cool custom terrain and objectives. Well, I had every intention to do some more work on the thunder hawk tonight but got wrapped up watching man utd getting beat in the semi final so did squat. Oh well. Taking my nids (old codex) and white scars to a new club tomorrow so will see how I get on there. Anybody local t the northwest should pop down. Club is wardens of the north and us in the Wigan soccer dome by ASDA from half 6 til half 10. It's a new club so needs some love....
See you tomorrow guys
Oh btw voting finishes tomorrow night an there are only 12 votes cast, you don need to comment just click a vote. Assault marines and storm ravens level at the moment.......

Hey guys, so i'm sat in work (obv very busy) and thinking about the assault marines. Should I have them off the ground i.e. on pins so they look like they are flying or should I just have them on raised rubble etc to give the image of height and balance. Not sure if I am a fan of the 'wire' but thought I would ask your opinion....

If you have any flight stands kicking around you could use the clear rods and then not need the wire.
Or any clear plastic or Perspex.

I only have 10 or so, 1 group of 5 is like a sequence shot... 1 coming in to land 1 touching down, the other crouching , next is starting to leap forward and the last is airbourne again leaning very forward as if to rugby tackle someone.
So yes a mixture of poses can look great and I think you should mix it up for balance, besides if all were airbourne, you could never hide them in cover haha...

I don’t know how you feel about drop pods, but you might want to magnetize some backpacks so you can swap as needed.
While more orky, I’ve seen some very cool stuff using spray foam insulation to make plumes of smoke.
Personally, I’d just keep them on the ground. Varying the amount of stuff on the base would change up the heights.
Ok, I just had a totally impractical idea. Make each base a section of wall, with the marine crashing through a window a few inches up. Line them up so it looks like the squad is breaching a building.

Nev that is an amazing idea. 10 of them are definately doing that. without question......
The rest will get mixed up as suggested. Looks like these are winning the votes so I am gonna be sick of them soon.
Packs are getting magnetized for the purpose that I may take DP's but don't fancy them at the mo. I have magnetized all my dev's too so I can swap them out.
Must hit the cities of death box of ruins and such tonight and see what I can find.

I hope the “amazing idea” you are talking about is magnetizing the backpacks, not going through the wall. You people need to stop listening to what I have to say before I finish my morning coffee. Because as far as impractical, hard to pull of ideas go, that one takes the cake. Using bits of ruins as improvised flight stands might be a little more feasible. If you do try it though, be sure to base your marines with shattered stained glass fragments. Bonus points of you can rig it so some are still falling off the frames.

While you are taking irrational requests:
I’ve always wanted to see an assault marine veteran sergeant with a power spear. A two handed overhead stance, point down, ready to impale some poor sap at the end of his jump. Bonus points for having the spear actually stuck in someone, using that to support the marine in flight.

Sat in work (busy again) looking on google images for some inspiration for the base of my thunderhawk and i'm at a loss.
So in the spirit of the rest of the thread I will ask you guys for some input and suggestion (no stained glass on this one Nev) for some ideas. I have ordered the 20mm clear rod and bought a 10" round wooden base. What shall I do? Ruined building/buildings, just barren terrain with maybe a crashed/wreked vehicle or something completely different?
I am open to all sorts of wierd and wonderful suggestions as you can tell from previous posts and dont mind a challenge as long is is within the realms of possibility.
Throw it at me guys
Just an example attached.....

One thing about basing is that it ties your army together. So I would not stray too far from what you have. With your sotrmtalons you’ve built up a pile of broken asphalt/concrete/shale whatever that matches your bikes. With the larger base for the t-hawk, you could continue to do this. I think you might want to add a little something to spice it up though.
What are you trying to portray with your base? On the bikes, I just assumed you were doing an urban/ruins base. But looking at your talons, It might be more of a rocky scree, like the aftermath of an avalanche. Although with enough shelling, I suppose a building could end up in a pile like that.
If you do want to go urban/ruins, add some more intact buildings. Or and actual stretch of road, with lane markings and curbs. If you are going to the blasted wasteland, some stunted trees or scrub might help break up the grey. With either one, dead bodies always add a splash of color.
You could add some friendly forces as well. A scout with a camo cloak hiding in ruins on the base would add a bit of contrast. Possibly having just set off a colored smoke grenade to help mark the LZ for the t-hawk.

I think a wreckage of an enemy flier on the front end of the base with a creator running to the back of the base to show where it pounded out a ditch in the ground. Would look like the t-hawk shot it down as it advanced. Maybe even a scout squad with shotguns advancing in a semi-circle to execute the survivors. I think that would be suitably awesome.

Crikey, there's more money in that base than there is in the actual model itself x'D

Love the scout with the smoke idea mate. How would i do the smoke though??
Going for just urban ruins on the bikes and the talons are only packed so high because I had to hide the nut for the threaded bar . Other talon bases will be more like the bike ones but still higher. Perhaps a stray bit of building or iron bar.

I am all for spending money on the bases. I am working on a heldrake at the moment that is the picture from the CSM codex so my base is a Vendetta/valkerie so thats a £41 base that still has a base under it.
Would need to be an Alpha Legion ship so maybe a talon or even a storm eagle rear if I can find a broken one for sale on ebay or the likes.

AArrrggghhhhhhh...........I can't touch cotton wool.(hair standing on end just thinking about it) so may have to come up with something else.
Also have thought that maybe i could have the marker/flare going off with a wrecked tank (easier to come by) which would suggest that the scouts flagged the TH and it destroyed the tank and is flying over.
Question is though, does that mean I need flames coming off the tank/flyer??
Why do I do this to myself. I have just ordered perspex to make stain glass windows and am now thinking of setting fire to vehicles

I like the idea of the downed craft, sounds cool, or a bombed out tank?? With dead bodies hanging from the hatches.... Could do a scout in cover still as he was the one calling it in haha... Andthe rest of the squad advancing in past it or on it checking for survivors.... As if it was a command rhino?
The other idea I had was probably way too out of left field.... Ever watch world war Z & the zombies begin makinig a ladder (more like a big pile) climbing atop one another to get over the top.... How about something similar with plague zombies or nids trying to climb up to the Thunderhawk on top of each other. As if the Thunderhawk has just lifted off after extracting a valuable asset.... Have the front hatch or hatches open with marines blazing away at the mountain of foes below.... Even maybe some zombie nids clinging to the sides somewhere??
Like I said, a totally nuts idea and maybe not in the realms of possibility!!! Automatically Appended Next Post: Could you use expanding foam for smoke or would it be too 'rounded'.
I used to see some people use wire wool, but more for fire than pure smoke
