Bob the tanks are cool, may use something similar
Z I would be tempted with LEDs but just can't get into them so will fig something else out.
Dantay the zombie idea is amazing and actually do-able plus could be used for the stand but I don't think this is the model for it. You may see that feature on my chaos army (heldrake maybe) but not here.
So, I've decided that a crashed flyer with the trench left behind is the way forward as suggested by Z, and will put some sort of ruin with the stand coming out. I will pose the TH in a banking position and will also have scouts with the marker/flare advancing to finish the crashed crew.
Thanks for the input again guys, always appreciated and please keep the suggestions coming for any aspect of what I feel has become "OUR" Task Force....

I'll use cork and also filler (great for adding weight to the base for counter balance) then just bits of GW terrain for the ruins. I've got a couple of imperial sectors that I can pinch bits from. Sand, stone, cork and filler for the rubble and mounds and I have a few spare craters from the GW set so will trim one of them to make the final resting place of the downed craft.
Was thinking about the assault marines last night and may try a few trimmed down panels from the shrine of the Aquila set for windows. Just break them across the 10 bases so they fit together for display but can still be transported should they ever get a game. Ordered the stuff to make the stain glass and will put a few cultists inside the building with one being impaled by a power spear or chainsword. If I pull it off they will look epic if I don't then.........

Can you not use clear plastic, like from the clamshells the models come in then use Tamiya or humbrol candy/translucent paints to do the stained glass? Then just cut the plastic to suit

Hahaha, yeah mate but coming up from black I can get the pre shades coming through the white. Doesn't really show on camera but just gives a deeper look to an unshakeable colour.
What do we think to a huge red/yellow Aquila on each side of the hull coming from the side doors?

It;'s not a silly request but one I will decline. My freehand is not great and defo not for portraits.
Have not done much this weekend as my son has been with me (did take him to the lgs and let him play the scars which meant he desroyed some nid and necrons. He was a happy lad but still wants to do Ultra smurfs (sorry Nev).
Had a bad migrane yesterday so only primed a few more pieces of thunderhawk and played with dry fit. (lots of zoom zoom noises).
On the plus side the postman has just been to work and dropped off, Perspex, 20mm rod, more magnets and my new Winsor & Newton series 7. As i'm bored in work (again) I have written out the Task force (need to put names for characters in but they are at home in the book.
This is the basic loadout for the task force but the Bike units for gaming purposes will have another Serg in each squad so that the melta flamer becomes useable, unless my apoc opponent is happy to let me run 2 extra special weapons in a 10 man squad haha.
Lot of work to get through really when you consider what is not painted :(

Well guys, it's been a few days since I've updated anything. Been busy with work, kids and planning a freakin wedding (or at least pretending to be interested in planning it) so not done much. Have painted up the cockpit area of the thunderhawk and just need to glue it together tonight and highlight the stairs etc. Have also magnetized the turbo laser and drilled the hole for the stand. Obviously when drilling a hole in a model as expensive as this you would believe that I'd measure twice drill once........nah......hole is somehow off centre but tbf will enable me to give a banking pose that I want.
Will put some pics on either later tonight of most likely tomorrow.
On the note of the AM's I have looked at the window scene and reckon that I can do it. The problem I have is that it will look strange in my task force so I was gonna drop the idea until I realised I had an extra box of AM's so can for them. May do them in a different chapter (to break the monotony) and thought of either, imperial fists, alpha legion, or salamanders. You guys can help me decide???

Alpha legion? ALPHA LEGION?!? Where is your chaplain you filthy heretic? <BLAM!>
Sigh, ok, now that we’re done with that…
If you are going to go with a second codex marine force, I’d go with Imperial Fists. They are more traditionally a solid gunline, which would make a nice counter to your highly mobile White Scars. They are also classically used in siege and city fights, so an urban/ruins theme to base the whole contingent would be thematic (not just for the AMs)
And if you are going to have some chaos marines going boot-first though the stained glass windows of some Imperial cathedral, I have two words for you: Word Bearers. Death to the False Emperor! Glory to Chaos!
<BLAM!> <BLAM!>
See what you’ve started? You really need to get a chaplain done to keep you in line. Or at least a librarian to help sense the foul taint that keeps popping up around here.

Imperial fists make sence to me. They are the traditional seige fighters, slugging it out in cramped urban areas.
Alternatively, Blood Angels could be fun, it would open you up to a whole new codex...

Hahahahahahahaha, brilliant......
Alpha legion was because that is who are working with Voldorius in the book that spawned this project. I also have to admit that the Scars are a strange trip for me as since being a young lad all those years ago, I always collected the baddies, I was the Empire in Star Wars, the Decepticons in transformers, Venom in M.A.S.K. skeletor and his horde in he-man and mum-raa and his henchmen in thundercats and so on....(trip down memory lane there, Nev you should remember them)
Fists would work tho and the sharp contrast from a shattered ruin on the yellow will look immense. The only problem us that I will end up liking them and building an IF army then + :(

Hmmmm... Fluff wise, not salamanders. They are not known for using assault troops I believe.... In the days of yore, they had a rule called cold blooded or some such, they were supposed to be slower reactions than a normal marine.
Imperial Fists would be a nice splash of colour too, they could be fighting side by side, like in the siege of terra.
Prior to thhat the Khan was fighting alongside the Wolf before. He left for Terra and the Wolves held the Alpha Legion in place.
Plus there are the HH stries with Alpha's killing scars, so I would suggest these 2 armies too.
If were going to really push it then go Alpha... You could then do White Scars with a twist..... Like in deliverance lost, or Urban camo Alha's springing an ambush...
So I say make them Alpha Legion!!

Ahh, the 80’s, smells like nostalgia and cheep plastic.
If the Alpha Legion has some fluff tie, by all means go with them. But once you stat another paint job, you are doomed!

You are quite right about starting another paint job. I have decided that I will paint the White Scar AM's as normal and then make a diorama at some point seeing as I have bought the stuff to do the windows. May still do fists or Alpha Legion but will put it on the back burner for now. I have to finish a whole heap of Scars a complete 10k of Nurgleness and still have to put paint to my Eldar that I am currrentley playing with as a break from scars.
Anyhoo, pics of the cockpit attached and I'm happy with the progress I made last night. All the bits of interior are now glued and ready for final fit after hull is painted. I also mixed some epoxy resin last night and set the top hull, tail fin and engines etc together ready for the 'up to white' process to begin this week. Hopefully will have the hawk painted by the end of the week and can start on the base and weapons, landing gear and misc bits.
