Hey guys just a quick update.
I have deleted the AM's and the Scouts from the poll as they are all but finished now. Will assemble the painted scouts toight and put some pics on and then only have the bases and shoulder pads to finish on the AM's before finally putting some complete photos.
Have also finished the interior of 1 stormraven but will not be doing the base until the weekend so using a spare base for Thursday night. There is still weathering and transfers to apply too.
As you can imagine this means there has been NO progress on the Thunderhawk but I will endeavor to start that again next week too.
Pics up tomorrow morning and for all those who voted on the above then please feel free to vote for the next unit. (looking like remaining bikes at the moment, uurrrggghhh)

Hey guys,
Having trouble uploading pics of the completed scouts so will keep trying throughout the day. AM's are nearly done and stormraven is en route.
Played a few games last night and had a comfortable win against a warrior heavy nid army and then....
(Ant, if you are reading this then thanks for being a good sport, we won't forget this for a long time)
I played a Blood Angel list that could have been really nasty.
Ant started with a vindicator, predator, whirlwind and 7 terminators with an apothecary. Deployed together in a bunch and was to bring his sterngaurd down in a drop pod. He deployed first and so I was very cautious with my scout moves, seeking cover wherever I could.
I then rolled a 6 and seized the initiative and it went very quickly after that. My vindicator got rid of 6 termies with a direct hit and all my melta moved within range and popped every tank and termie left. I didn't even get to shoot my snipers :(
Game lasted all of 5 mins but the laughter lasted at least half an hour (from both of us)
Who said melta is dead????

Did he forfeit? or was the sternguard killed on arrival? Not that it would have mattered as it would be a very uphill battle for him. The no units on table=game over rule checks at the end of the game turn, not player turn, so his pods should have landed.
I agree with you on the melta thing. While you can potentially kill stuff by stripping hull points, it take time and generally more massed mid-range fire then marines can put out. Melta kills stuff NOW and with just a few guys firing, leaving the rest to do other things.
Tell your scouts to stow their camo cloaks, turn off the jamming beacon, and fall in. Just because it’s their job to hide does not mean they get to escape photo-time.

Yeah, he just gave up but was good about it.
Scouts will be up as soon as my computer starts working and let's me upload. Been working on the stormraven today for a bit and have started to prime the other one plus the 4 talons ready for some flyer paint.
Looks like you folks really wanna punish me and get me to do the remaining bikes next. That is another 40+ bikes so I will do them in sets of 5 I think.
No devastator love though (not even a vote)......
I also need some motivation to get back to thunderhawk (it seems to be sat at the same point my reaver Titan is) but vow to get on with it soon. Automatically Appended Next Post: Uploaded from my phone so may be upside down.
Tried to make cammo same as the bases. ..

Interesting choice of colours on those scouts. They're not overtly White Scars, was that a conscious choice or did it just happen? Not too sure of the red on their mid-section. It seems out of place on an otherwise camoflauge scheme

Kept the white and red on chest as the cloak would cover it if they were in camo but went for the same colour as the bases for the cloaks and legs.

Gonna throw the cat amongst the pigeons here guys but want your advice......
I still have an awful lot of scars to paint up as you all know, so was thinking that I also have 2-3 times as much Nurgle to paint. Read a thread on here earlier today that suggested working on multiple armies in small batches.
The question is simple, do I continue to stay on track and finish the scars iron do I mix it up?
Here's what I have in total that is bought and either built or part built
Scars. Chaos. Eldar
Thunderhawk. Reaver Titan. Wraithknight
4 Stormtalons. Great Unclean One. Wraithlord
2 Stormravens. Typhoon/typhus. 12 Wraithgaurd
2 Predators. 105 zombies. Wave Serpent
10 Devs. 28 plague marines. 2 spiritseers
Command squad on bikes. 10 death shroud and 10 grave wardens. Hemlock
3 Librarians on bikes. 3 held rakes and 3 blight drones. 8 Swooping Hawks
Approx 40 bike troops. 3 vindicator sand 3 predators.
Chaplain on bike. 20 raptors
20 plague bearers
Warp smith, Dark Apostle and Lord
2 demon princes (1 winged)
2 forgefiends
Warhound (not bought yet)
All the Eldar are base coated and so is the Reaver. The rest of the Chaos needs either building or priming with a whole lot of converting to do (zombies and held rakes in particular)
Thoughts please...

I'd say it's all down to what you feel like. I think you mentioned a page back that all the white was becoming a chore, if so then I'd say mix it up and do something else so you don't get fatigued. On the other hand, if you're in a bit of a rhythm as far as Scars go, then keep at them. There's also nothing to stop you building/converting Chaos up while continuing to paint the Scars.
Basically, just don't get bored, as the quality will suffer if you burn out.

Yeah, it's the burning out I'm worried about. Also if I finish the scars I'll be feeling the same way about the chaos I suppose.
Nearly finished the AM's and 2 ravens so may hit some Eldar or chaos after them. You may be onto something with mixing building the nurgle stuff whilst paint the scars. Nice mix.
The prospect of painting another 40 bikes literally chills me

Yeah, on a personal level I often like to have building going on between painting, just to keep things fresh. That way, I still keep working towards a complete squad/army, and once they're done I've already got the next lot built and ready to paint.

I'll check out your newest blog now
What could work is doing 2 things at the same time. You have 40 bikes and 105 Zombies (wow!) so, for example, do 5 bikes then 5 zombies, rinse and repeat. Now, an alternative squad is enough of a change to be interesting and enjoyable to help you not lose focus. And you dont even need to go bikes, zombies, bikes, zombies... I guess what i'm trying to say is sprinkle something new and interesting between the laborious stuff to a point where it keeps you fresh

Right, so I've just accepted an apoc game the day before the tourney at WHW so will be pressing on with valour to get these guys painted. I am still gonna build some chaos in between but have an inspiration to do the force now.
In front of me is the bikes as they stand without flyers or rhinos.
I aim to get the bikes all white today, along with the 2nd raven, and preds. Get the metallics done and washed along with AM's and put some prep into the bases too.
If the white dries today I'll put the red stripes on the ravens and tanks
Then it's blacks on bikes 5-10 at a time and a mass shoulder pad paint up.
Within a week or two I will have all the bikes (troops) done and the preds, ravens and AM's. That will leave the talons, command squad, chaplain, and codiciers. Still need to buy a fire raptor and 7 rhinos but I have a new wave of excitement now and will push on (unless the nurgle madness takes over me)

Mixing things up is good, but so is finishing up projects. It’s a hard balance to find. If you feel burned out or arn’t enjoying yourself, switch. Remember that we are here to have fun with the hobby. Looking at the last picture made me go back to page one to look at your start picture. Paint is spreading...
I like your scouts. Painting camo is hard. You want them to look subtle and blend in to the table, but that’s so visually boring. I use splashes of bight color on my scouts, even though they are in forest camo. I might go a little farther then you did with just the red. Maybe do the power cables in color. Writing this now made me realize what struck me as “off” with them. They are entirely greyscale, with the one singular splash of color. It makes them feel in progress, like you’ve gotten to the red part of the paint scheme, but stopped there.

Cheers for the feedback Nev. I looked at ways of splashing more colour onto them but couldn't put more than if if. I figure that Shen they are on a mission they would literally blend in so TH guns and everything have to stay greyscale. I know stat you mean about not finished though. If TH blend too much then I'll forget they are there...

When deployed in woods I tend to forget to fire my snipers more often then not. They’ve got a much better track record now that they take cover behind the ADL manning the quad gun.
But there are a few things I do to liven up my scouts, even if they make no real-world sense. (It’s Cinematic!™)
I use two different camo patterns. Hard armor is a DA green base, with black and brown stippled on it. Fatigues worn under the armor are a goblin green base with a black/brown faux tiger stripe pattern.
Buckles and other things (like the sarge’s chest eagle) are a nice, stealthy, shining gold. But I don’t worry about the glint giving away their position. The bright orange and yellow power cables for the rifles will do a fine job of that.
You could say that what I’m doing makes a mockery of the concept of camouflage. I like to think of it as an homage. Like a fashion designer taking inspiration from something practical, and turning it into the exact opposite.
Spoilering the picture, so my minis don’t go cluttering up your thread.

I totally agree with Nev. Paint is speading. You have a huge collection that is being painted very quickly and to a great standard, you should be proud
And i'll be keeping an eye on the nurgle-y stuff. My eye caught a daemon model in the lgs today, it was totally bitchin'. Clearly it was nurgle-ish, with guts spilling out and various decay thingies going on, but it looks so sweet. Made me go look at a CSM codex and ponder the viability of Nurgle CSM/daemons, lol.

Busy day yesterday. Got everything I have built, up to white (3 layers on some of them) so can start the details and washes over the week.
Seem to be reluctant to go near these AM's now for some reason so will make a concerted effort to either paint them or smash then up haha.
I thought I was seeing things at one point in the afternoon as I was getting snow blindness and couldn't tell if the white was coming out of the airbrush or not.
Anyway, all done now so can move forward,
Still got to build the Talons and the 3 Codiciers but will leave them where they are (in a box) for now.
Congrats to both Zambro and Nevlon on their tournaments over the weekend, you can read reports on how they got on on their threads.
It is always inspiring to hear other peoples reports and makes me realise why I do this hobby .
Happy Monday everyone...

good shout leaving some stuff unbuilt. If my pile of unpainted things gets bigger than 4 or 5 units I get de-motivated
Dont smash up the AMs. Just shelf them and come back to them.

Good advice here.
I cringed when I saw you were doing 30 assault marines in one sitting. To me, it seemed madness. But I don’t use an airbrush, so cranking out large lots might be easier for you. I think the largest bulk job I ever did in one lump was a block of a dozen WHFB chaos warriors in one weekend. Somewhere through the second detail pass I was wiling to pledge my soul to the dark gods if I could just be done with the little buggers. Which was fine because they were chaos warriors, but you should avoid dark pacts when painting imperial troops.
But when your fun hobby becomes like a job, take a step back. Unpainted marines don’t go stale, they can wait for you. I’ve got a semi-painted IG primaris psycher sitting off the the side of my paint area. He’s been there since October I think, with a few layers on him. When I have a pot open of the right shade, and I’m thinking about him, he gets a little closer to being finished. No rush, no stress, he’ll get done eventually. But he’s not my focus, and I don’t feel the drive to get him done. I might do the same for your assault marines. Just keep a few out at hand. When you have a color out that they need, give them a quick pass.
