Morning guys,

I have the day off today with no gf or baby. No wedding crap and no jobs to do so I have a full on hobby day in front of me. I am in a good mood and feel inspired to get through as much as I can. On the table for completion are 2 preds, 2 ravens, 30 AM's 3 attack bikes plus I will have to do the bases for all the AM's and the ravens.

I have a plan and it involves coffee, good music and sheer determination. Can I do it???

About to kick it off with the red on the vehicles and then move with the plan....

First album will be Fortress by Alter Bridge (if you read this Neil it should make you happy)

I will update my progress periodically throughout the day and will keep checking on here for your (hopefully). Encouraging words...

Hi ho, hi ho, it's to the hobby table I go....

Good luck, sounds fun. Just remember to watch your back. And your hands. By that I mean stretching periodically; you don’t want to regret today tomorrow.

While I’m excited to see what you end up finishing today, I have to admit I’m more interested in your playlist. I’ve seen (and like) what you do with a paintbrush, but have no idea what you listen too.

Fun to see the procedure shots with the airbrush masking.

So two more albums down and I have the reds on the vehicles and all the blacks on the AM's plus the varnish ready for washing.

Stopping for a break for a sandwich and as Nev suggested keep stretching throughout the day. Back stiffens very quickly.

As for the playlist, I've done Alter bridge, Metallica and iron maiden so gonna throw a bit of GnR on and maybe some Hendrix to push through the afternoon

Cheers mate, I'm proper up for it today. Like Zambro said its rare that the time, freedom and desire all coincide so I'm running with it. Worth remembering too that I'm only doing the AM's to a TT standard.

Probably won't get the bases all done today but if I can tick all the other boxes then I'll be happy...

So it's now 5pm and I've been at it all day (more or less) got another hour before the mrs and baby are home so gonna prime the bases.

Spent some time whilst varnish was drying making 30 bases for the AM's and the 2 stormraven bases. Gonna get these primed now then wash everything with black oil. Whilst that's drying I'll either paint the bases or do the shoulder pads. Then it's just highlighting the metallics and gluing it all together.

Realised one attack bike is missing a cape so will have to make that at some point too from GS.

Been an epic day so far but I feel good about what I've got done....

Taking a break after this lot though and making some nurgle pustules and conversions.

Not sure whether I love or loath White Scars at the moment...

Well, it's nearly midnight and my eyes are sore. That has been one hell if a day of hobbying.

I set a big goal on purpose because I believe that if you aim for the moon and don't quite get there at least your amongst the stars.

The main thing is that all igave to do on the AM's now is clean and derail them, plus their bases.

The ravens need cleaning and the turret and cockpit putting in plus bases

Same with the attack bikes.

So I have achieved an awful lot today and am ready for sleepy time (obviously dreaming about white scars) before work tomorrow and then my first match in a new 2k pt league. I'm playing orks with gazgull, mega nobs and storm boys so will have to tread carefully.

Thanks for viewing today guys, it's genuinely appreciated and I reckon if I hadn't started this blog I'd still have a lot of unpainted scars......wait....I mean a lot MORE unpainted scars

Till the next time....goodnight...

So, I played orks tonight and had what I think must have been the worst/least fun game I've ever had. I ended up being "that guy" and picking on every rule I possibly could because my opponent was a robot.

I gave no problem losing a game (it's actually quite good sometimes) but when there is no atmosphere of personality in the game it takes all fun out of it.

Whilst I'm ranting too, if you play with an army that has lots of attacks then get enough dice for your army. Orks, DE etc need lts of dice. If you don't have enough then don't just take the liberty of picking up my custom white scar dice and using them against me WITHOUT EVEN ASKING. There us such a thing as game etiquette.

Anyway after dragging it out and making lots of bad decisions both naturally and because I wasn't enjoying the game I surrendered on turn 5.

Bad news is I will have to play him again. May boycott yet though. I play to win but not more than playing for fun.

Am I the only person that thinks this way?

Am just being an ass?

Touching, much less, rolling, someone’s dice without permission is a massive faux pas. That’s gamer etiquette 101, everyone should know that. Dice are cheep, if you play orks, bring a bucket full.

We all have bad days. I’ve had my TFG moments, and am one of the more laid back guys I know. It’s particularly hard when you are on the loosing side of the table, and your opponent isn’t helping the mood. Even if I’m savaging my opponent, I try to keep him involved in the game. Point out his little victories, or commiserate with his bad luck. If I wanted to get my teeth kicked in by a robot, I have a computer and plenty of games with difficulty sliders that go higher then I do. 40k is a social game, we all win when everyone has fun, regardless of how the VPs work out at the end.

If you are getting hammered, try not to stoop to the level of TFG. It can be hard, but be the better person. If you don’t need to play him again, don’t. Or talk to the other guys at your FLGS and see if you are the only one with an issue with him. Or list tailor against him and crush him mercilessly. Whatever

After my rant last night I have now rather calmed down (a bit)

I am going to clean the Ravens and ams tonight and maybe do detail then I'm gonna take a white break.

Just posted on my Nurgle blog that I intend to start the Heldrakes this weekend.

Knowing what i'm like (a few of you will be getting used to me by now) I will probably still tinker with thee guys too.

I NEED to get back onto my Thunderhawk ASAP and may do the base whilst i'm being creative this weekend.

Lets see what happens eh...

So tidied the AM's up a little last night but then gotr excited at starting the heldrake for my Nurgle blog.

Not taken any pics of the guys yet and may buy one of the booths/studios that Zambro bought to get a better pic.

Had some more inspiration for the TH base and will get on that this week.

The big problem is stopping myself buying a couple of Knights. Wouldn't use them in game but like the models and have some nice conversion ideas.

Messing around with the TH base last night and am struggling with crashing a talon into the building. It just does'nt seem to look right. Was thinking of maybe putting a tank through the wall instead with some scouts running out to take out the passengers.
Or should I just stick with the Talon in the building? Maybe in a crater and in two pieces would work? If I cut a talon in half I will have to use it then!!!!

Either way I need to decide what traitor colour to paint it up. Am naturally leaning to Alpha Legion as per the book, but they dont have ST's so could just do them as a traitor cultist/mechanicum dark drab colour??

Thoughts anyone??

I think a tank might be the better choice. Easier to do, lower profile, more “base” less “diorama” More lore appropriate.

If you do use a stormtalon, I’d have it post crash, like it skidded/tumbled to a stop up against the building. Use just the fuselage. The engine/wing pods would have snapped off in the crash, weapon pods as well. Those bits can be smeared across the rest of the base. Bury it in some rubble. If you want more of an action scene going on with the base, pop the canopy and have the pilot armed with his bolt pistol shooting it out with some advancing scouts. Or have his bullet riddled body lying next to his downed craft while the scouts advance to confirm the kill, or sit on the wreckage popping a signal flare.

The topic of scouts chilling out, post op, gave me another idea. One would assume that scouts would be deployed to neutralize AA assets before the ‘Hawk came in. If you are going to wreck a tank, make it a Hunter/Stalker, possibly a Whirlwind (some are used in AA roles IIRC). Or have some bodies sprawled around an ADL/quadgun installation. If you want to go all-in, get one of those 2xquad lascannon bunkers and hit it with some melta bombs.

It’s nice to know people crazy enough to try cool things, and the hobby budget and skills to make them work.

On topic of carving up expensive bunker kits to make a base, how much space are we talking about for the T-Hawk’s? When looking at GW’s site for how expensive the Firestorm Redoubt is, my eyes fell on the Fortress of Redemption and a number of things flashed through my head:

Scouts casually sitting on the walls, smoke drifting up from the disabled guns and the holes blasted in the walls. (Sitting scouts can probably be improvised from the LSS kit) This works for any of the bunkers, but as I actually have had hands-on experience with the FoR, it struck a little closer to home. YMMV

Question: How do I hide the flight stand for something the size of a Thunderhawk?
Answer: Have it crashing through the tower on the FoR.

I need to stop thinking about this. The more I do, the more ideas I get. I was just thinking about the concept of a bunker complex, and the fact that the scouts might not have secured the whole thing as the T-hawk flew overhead. Cue reminder the assault marines deep-striking is them jumping out of low-flying thunderhawks. Insert image of scouts surrounding the lascanon side of the FoR, while some cultists/CSM keep them pinned down from the missile bunker side. T-hawk flies overhead, side door open, trailing a string of jump pack marines as it clips the top of the tower off.

But once again, we are drifting towards “diorama", and not “base” The 40k universe is wonderfully vibrant and full of imagery. It’s hard not to get caught up in it. Actually realizing it in plastic and paint is another story entirely. That’s one of the benefits in commenting on other people’s blogs. I can toss out all sorts of crazy (but cool) ideas, and watch someone else try to make it happen.

Hahahaha, brilliant.

Keep em coming Nev. I am possibly crazy/stupid enough to try them. Still gonna do the AM's through the stain glass (one day) and love the way your imagination wonders. I am similar and end up spending far too much money on bases as a result. The second heldrake I am doing for example has an IG Valkyrie as its main base (not cheap). My reaver titan will have the crashed Thunderhawk RoB tile as its base, etc, etc.

As for the Th, base is only about 10" so won't for a FoR but the tank or talon would work nicely.

I also agree that they too easily become dioramas and have to stop myself constantly.

You will see some (hopefully) epic basing on my Nurgle blog when I get round to them. Lots of water effects and dead IG's

Been a few days guys,

In the event of my Dremel dying (orderd a new capacitator today) then it forced my hand back to my scars, which was no bad thing.

I have now finished the shoulder pads, detail and bases of the AM's and will glue them tomorrow and promptly put up photographs......FINALLY......one thing I can say is that metal shoulder pads really are naff. I should have gone with transferes for the AM pads.

3 more attack bikes are at the same level as the other bikes too, these will all get weathereing and transfers at some point.

I have also decided after talking with Zambro over on his thread to magnetise the stormraven wings. Actually much easire than I first thought. The plus point to this is that I can now fit both ravens and their bases into 1 Battlefoam tray rather than 2. Need to still do the turrets and detail/weathering etc on them but may put some WIP pics up tomorrow.

Started on the base for the Thunderhawk and have gone back to the Talon idea and it looks ok now. Will surround it with some more debris and put a pic on next week to get opinions and ideas.

All in all it's been quite a few days in camp White Scar. I have even decided on my 10th flyer for my Task force and a change to my 1500pt Tourney list......

Just ordered a FW Fire Raptor......

Will replace the 2 talons in my list and frees up 30 pts that are going on power weapons for the flamer unit serg's.

Pics soon, I promise
