Royal Crown Cola was just as good if not better than standard Coca Colas. It was also £1.50 for 8 cans compared to Coca Cola's £4.20 for 8.
Edit: I forgot the downer to my post. Our local ASDA stopped selling them last year.

Indeed. Nothing like a good old A&W in a frozen mug. Its the only reason I spend money there.

I noticed the difference when I was over in the states.
The different taste of Mountain Dew was more apparent, but it turned out that was because what they had been selling here in Oz since the early '90s as regular Mountain Dew was actually the caffeinne-free version. They've just reintroduced it with a new name, with the caffeinne added.

Hence... the euphemism of Coke being "Battery Acid".
Pretty much any soft drink and a load of fruit juices will have the same effect. They've all got basically the same levels of acidity.
My wife is a dental hygienist and she says what's really bad for your teeth is those sports drinks like gatorade. The electrolytes do horrible stuff to your teeth, and its even worse when you drink the stuff while playing sport (when your mouth is least able to protect your teeth).
That said, pretty much the only time I drink Coke is when I feel a bit of a stomach bug coming on. Pour a can of coke in to my belly and whatever bug is in there never survives

O.o
Coke vs. stomach bug? O.o
No wonder I don't get sick.
Story time: I lived with my grandmother for years while growing up... she also worked the line at a coke bottling factory. We ALWAYS had Coke in the house. You could practically put a nipple on it when we were kids.
And I still have great teeth!

It seems to me that with teeth especially, good genetics matter as much as decent care. Not enough if you don't clean your teeth of course, but from the stories I've been told it seems like some folk eat and drink all manner of crap, clean once a day and don't floss, and get nothing more than a bit of bloody gums. Other brush twice, floss, use all the products, and there mouth just falls apart.
Ah well, just be glad you're one of the lucky ones

I'm more worried about developing kidney stones than rotting teeths if I drink too much.

Won't it also matter how much actual contact there is between your teeth and the soda?
I don't swish soda around in my mouth or anything, it goes over my tongue and straight down. No lingering.
If there isn't much contact the soda can't really harm your teeth.

Yeah, all of those "Did it, done it, doin' it tomorrow" ads made no sense in view of the caffeine free version they sold here at the time.
Still prefer Jolt ultra to Mountain Dew (original) though.

I don't know about Coke, but I know about Dr Pepper and there is a big damn difference. One of the special treats for going to this seriously hippy beansprout coffee shop in central Austin that we would occasionally go to was that they had real SUGAR CANE Dr. Pepper. It was awesome.
