Well the finale has aired, and I thought it was great, and I'm very happy the show didn't redeem Ward. We saw him losing his convictions towards Garrett, but he didn't turn good at the last second, or sacrifice himself to save Skye or any of the other horrific things they could have done that would have utterly ruined this series. Instead May kicks the ever-loving gak out of him, and he gets arrested. I wanted May to kill him, but I can live with that outcome. I'm worried about Fitz though. Poured his heart out, still in the Friend Zone, and now in a coma. Dude's having a bad day.

If anyone couldn't guess that Fury would save Fitzsimmons then they weren't paying attention. Why draw attention towards a frequency that no one's looking for? Because of course Fury is monitoring that frequency. As far as Fury goes, his presence was nice. He got a lot of fun lines, and I liked how the story played out (with one exception, which I'll get to in a sec). I especially loved how he brought out Coulson's Revenge (sorry, I call the Destroyer gun that because of this). That was nice. Killing Garrett was an interesting move as well, and the way it was done was fun because it was a nice way to subvert expectations. Not sure where the Skye's Father thing is going, but I guess we'll have to wait 'til next Season. Thankfully the writers appear to have learnt their lessons from this Season so I don't think we'll be waiting 17+ episodes for that ball to get rolling. Also good to see Raina and Quinn making it away. The show needs more reoccurring villains, which was a problem this show had for most of its run, so them being out there (with the Gravitonium no less) is a good thing.

And hooray for Koenig's brother! And for Mike getting free.

Of course, now I have two concerns:

1. Coulson is the new director of SHIELD.
2. Fury specifically saying "I won't be back for a long while".

The effects of this are twofold:

1. It disconnects the show from the rest of the MCU. SHIELD now only exists in the world of the show because SHIELD stopped existing after The Winter Soldier. That means there's no SHIELD in any upcoming MCU movies, meaning this show continues to skirt around the edges of the MCU rather than being directly involved with it.
2. The opposite side of that coin is that the movies no longer have SHIELD, and nothing from the TV show will ever influence or cross-over into the movies.

This makes Agents of SHIELD into high-level fan-fiction, and that's a problem.

Also, IGN has a (spoiler-filled) interview with Jeff Bell and Jeph Loeb.

We don't know which direction they will take, I hope they will influence the movies.

I for one understand why Fury made Coulson director. He couldn't trust his #2 (what's her face) because I am sure that Fury being Fury he knew that she had already "given up" on SHIELD when she led the army special forces to that Canadian base. So who was there, really, left that was qualified and had the proper/true vision to lead?

I also think that this kind of move will make SHIELD the far more clandestine organization that it was portrayed as in the comics.

I have to say that Fitz kind of annoys me as he is (or was?). Even in the face of death he was so frigging wishy washy about expressing his feelings to Gemma. Dude...grow some bolts and take her in your one good arm and plant the kiss of a lifetime on her.

Loved how they finalized Garret. Funny

I kind of call "cheese" with not killing Ward...and thinking that they will get any info from him. HYDRA is a cellular and compartmentalized organization for a reason....highly doubtful he knows who any other agents are or what other plans there may be (e.g. the 'twins' project).

Finally.....

Patton's clone?! Twin brother?! So surprised to see him back (but happy!)! We know he is human...of sorts...since Ward killed the first one we met. Curious about his story!

I destroy my enemies when I make them my friends.

Three!! Three successful trades! Ah ah ah!

Regarding Fury/Coulson and the possible distance of the show from the universe I think you're overthinking it HBMC. I feel like this is just the break while Fury goes off to do what he does at the end of Winter Soldier. I feel like "Shield" as we know it will be more of a lead up to what happens in the next Avengers movie for next year. I mean, consider that most of next season will take place sans Avengers character movies. Until Avengers 2 comes out they have nothing to tie into. Saying that gives Fury time to do whatever and then come back in the show (maybe) around the time of A2.

Just my thoughts. And it's a good idea to seperate Fury for a bit since Samuel L. Jackson doesn't really do TV and would overpower the normal cast if he was around more.

I agree. In fact bringing in Nick Fury and Maria Hill these last few episodes makes it feel more connected to the Movie universe. Basically, they need to do something to restablish SHIELD. SHIELD is a pretty important part of this show...

I feel like that is going to be the point of the show leading up to A2. Basically the show will reestablish a new "Shield" for A2 going forward. And A2 (or the show) will reflect Fury's return after his spycraft in europe. Makes sense to me.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Yeah, they really had fun with a few scenes in this one, and while a few were pretty cringe-inducing(May's "hurr hurr I are kick ass nao" line for example), Garret was brilliant in general, with the ending a particular highlight. While it was happening I kept trying to figure out what the angle was - which villain has silver armour with glowy orange bits? Does this mean we might get a Deathlok spinoff series with cyber-Garret as the main baddie? I wonder if Coulson and Fury will have to fight him aga....*freem*

Classic.

I think this is an unwarranted concern. The next Marvel movie that will be released is Guardians of the Galaxy in August, and SHIELD's status isn't going to matter in GOTG because...space.

Then Agents of SHIELD will return with a half season in September and run through December, then Agent Carter will run during the mid-season break, and Agents of SHIELD will return for the second half of its season -- which will end right about the same time Age of Ultron is released (which will come out in one year from yesterday), which means that the second half of season 2 is probably all going to be set-up for Age of Ultron. Also, Clark Gregg has confirmed he's in Avengers 2, so it wouldn't surprise me if the AoS season finale takes places concurrently with the events of Age of Ultron.

They actually put Garrett in some kind of hard case, like a coffin sort of thing. They did a poor job of showing how he got out of it though.

And, to Yodhrin, they weren't turning him into a different villain -- in the comics, John Garret is a cyborg with a full body conversion. So they were turning him into him. It's like how Deathlok only looks the way he does in the comics in that one shot where you see him with the x-ray scatter eye. We get one scene where John Garrett is actually a full body conversion cyborg.

When did Gregg confirm he was in AoU?

And it is a valid concern. Let me explain:

What's has AoS' biggest problem so far been? Easy answer, the show spent the first 2/3rds of the season spinning its wheels waiting for TWS to drop before it could do anything interesting. The producers saw the amount of criticism the show was getting, so the easiest way to avoid having the show suffer by waiting for movie events to happen is to simply make it as far removed from the movies as possible. SHIELD isn't in the movies any more because SHIELD is gone, so the television show now has free reign to do almost whatever it wants because it won't have any impact on the movies because the movies can just ignore it. As far as the more casual audience goes (ie. those that just see the movies and either don't watch or don't even know about AoS), SHIELD is gone, so a tie-in series means nothing to them.

I still think Season 2 is going to be the rebuilding of Shield for AoU. They don't need to tie directly into the films until then but will in the sense of setting the stage for the movie. I think the show came out of nowhere in relation to Thor 2 so they didn't have a solid feel for how to integrate into the films just yet but had the time and confidence for Cap 2. Add in Whedon is in charge of both the show and A2 and I think it'll be fine.

I don't think that Billy is just Eric's brother, they are too obviously identical, even given the same opening lines. Although if they aren't just twins, it leaves the question- what are they?

I would think hologram or somesuch, but clearly they can die and are solid.

Androids? no technological capability THAT advanced has been shown to be owned by SHIELD or Fury. Plus, Eric died pretty easily for an android.

Clone? once again, clones haven't been shown so far...

I am personally leaning that he is a super-human with a power to make copies of himself, like the character in X-Men 3. He replicated himself and one went to look after each facility. Explains how he was easy to kill, and how they are identical (seemingly) and even how billy didn't seem so upset that Eric died (he is just a copy after all).

My guess would be some play on the LMD, though they were actually androids, these could be some form of enhanced clone, given that Simmons was able to do a basic autopsy.

Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!

yeah, a few seconds of searching turned up LMDs aha

so apparently yes, Fury does have some advanced technology.

but Eric was still pretty easy to kill- you can't strangle an android after all, not a super-strong and tough one.
So LMDs in the form of clones not androids makes sense.

The season finale aired in the UK tonight and...

I've got to say, I wasn't that impressed with it. Not at all, really.

The entire thing just felt way too smug - And I'm not just talking about Garrett. The only thing that really felt it had any emotion, or half sense of actual excitement was Fitz and Simmons scenes, which seemed to breeze by so very quickly. I imagine Fitz will not have an enjoyable time at all in season 2...

Did the finale scene with

I really do have to say, Arrow definitely won out for me this go round.

I mean, seriously. This fight in slow motion is just as awesome as at full speed.

I liked the finale, although it wasn't as good as the HYDRA reveal episode or a couple of the others. The quality since the break has been pretty damn good, the only one I didn't like was the first 'secret base' one, but hat could be because it was directly after the best episode, with the HYDRA reveal.

I'm glad Deathlok got so much better over the course of the series, and I hope we see more of him in the next series, even if he just pops up here and there.

The Fury scenes were great, but they RUINED it by putting his name in the opening credits. I mean, I know they probably have to because regulations, but it completely killed the surprise. It was still cool, though.

But the best moment of the episode: Coulson's face when he points out that TAHITI was supposed to resurrect an Avenger, and Fury just nods. You almost expect Coulon to ask 'Do I count as an Avenger? Do I get a cape?'.

I'm almost wondering if they've killed off Fitz completely? He's not even shown after being rescued, and the line about him 'never being the same again' almost suggest he's gone for good, at least in his role as the team physicist. It'll be a shame if he is, as I'd far rather Simmons go (I think she's the only character that hasn't really added much to the series, blind optimism, apparent innocence and technobabble only have so much mileage.)

I'm glad Ward didn't revert to being a good guy, and got the *** kicked out of him (he's had it coming by a while). Garret's ending was brilliant. and as for the thing with Skye's parents? No idea, but roll on series 2.

They pretty much told you Fury was showing up in all the commercials and previews for the episode as well. Hell, I'd have assumed he'd be in it anyways.
