Just a little project I've been working on for the last couple years... Still very much a work in progress... but a couple friends figured I was at a point far enough along where I should be sharing some photos and video. So here it is, tho it's still a ways to go before it's finished...

http://youtu.be/ywgXJkpyXrs

And here's the link to the public album with about 30+ more recent pictures...

Thoughts/feed back welcome!

(And yes, that IS a 40k stylized TARDIS in the photos for Dr Who fans out there... :-)

Kits so far? Wow. Good question. Pretty much all the standard GW building kits except the most recent releases (eg. Wall of Martyrs...) Just haven't decided how to incorporate them yet... It has manufactorums, many many basilica administratums, more than a few sanctum imperialis', honored imperiums, shrine of aquilas, pieces from an aegis Defence line, bastion bits... There's also some pegasus hobbies sets including a gothic cities large set, a couple small sets (sets 1&2), and the gothic ruins sets... There's also from gw warhammer fantasy a Garden of Morr, and Dreadstone Blight...

Also lots of wood, actual small ceramic in the dungeon/basement, real bark to simulate stone, thin and thick plywood, plaster, pink foam, bits left over from a few penitent engines, some Reaper miniatures.... glue... Glue and more glue...

Now.. It you ask me how many of each of the above kits... LOL. Couldn't tell ya. Yet. Just stopped counting as it kept growing
... Eg. There's a few pieces that are built but not ready to be included in the table yet...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Now that I'm actually thinking about it... There are also some woodland scenic tunnel and wall pieces... GW Movement Trays... 3 different types and sizes of Zuzzy mats... a GW LotR Ruins of Osgiliath set... Plasticard, wooden dowels, and a couple different types of outdoor plastic garden edging sets from walmart for variations of rock walls and steps...

Bottom line... Just about anything is fair game to use!

Whoa!

I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.
Check it out, you just might like it.

Pilfer away! A lot of my own work was looking at other stuff out there, and finding stuff I liked... Then seeing how it might work for me...

BTW, you did some great work on your cathedral too! Was just checking it out... I actually really liked your stairs... Very cool use of bits and movement tray edges.... Mind if I pilfer back that idea? LoL.

Ok. Good suggestion! Here's a distance shot - threw some of my painted (or mostly painted) models on the table... Black Templars facing off against a sneaky Necron strike force... Model bases are as small as 28mm, all the way up to a super heavy Storm Lord parked at the front steps...!

I'll post close ups next to give a reference for scale...

Here's the first of the Black Templar close ups per the request for scale comparison. Btw. The main table is a 4x6'. And shelf table (which folds down too) is 18"x6' playable space. The rise from lower shelf to table is 12". And from the lowest playable level in the road on the shelf of the table to the very tip top of the cathedral is 47". The cathedral itself is 9 (payable) floors and 39" tall. Includes a fully build dungeon/basement which is revealed when the main floor is removed.

Each piece is custom built for a specific spot on the table... But it can be fully disassembled and used as their own separate pieces of terrain. Thus any of the building pieces have infinite combinations for how they could be placed on the table.

Of course, occupied buildings can be blown up too..: so in my mind each piece of the cathedral could be blown up and removed as might happen in a game! LoL.

Last estimate, based on what's already been primed? 12-14 cans of flat matte black to finish covering just the bare plastic...
The back apse of the cathedral alone, took 2 full cans to give a nice prime, inside and out...

I don't even want to guess what it will take to actually paint. Thank goodness for the airbrush!!

Awesome stuff! If you get a Hasslefree miniatures Dr Who and give him some bionics, it'll fit nicely with your TARDIS.

Great idea!! The TARDIS was a last minute, bitz bash, came in a momentary flash of inspiration. Couldn't resist the sudden impulse.
Thanks, I'm definitely going to do that!!

Last but not least, approaching from the back, a flight of necron flyers: doom scythe, night scythe and nightshroud bomber...
Thought the scale and height of the flyers against the cathedral would make for a good comparison too... Especially a heavy bomber like the nightshroud about to ambush the dreadnought on over watch...

With BT, Ork and Steel Legion armies around here, we'd locally talked of running it as an Armageddon campaign as the "Temple of the Emperor Ascendant" in Helsreach...

Or even as a Shrine world campaign (we have large armies here made up of BT, GK, Sisters, BA, IG, Ultramarines, Necron, Eldar, Tau, Ork...)

Oh... The campaigns will certainly be epic! If there is anything that anyone wants a close up of, be happy to oblige... !!

Very cool Keep, Rhich! You've got quite a ways and had a cool open concept in the back on your Keep!!
You used lighting too, from what I saw? How did you find that it worked? I was debating on splurging and using flat LED strip lighting (3M tape on the backing) in sections... Easy to hide wires, single switch turn on... And with the ability to change the RGB colors... It would really light up entire sections of the building, dungeon, tunnels - in whatever color is picked... MOOD lighting!

I took pictures along the way as I built pieces too.... I'll post those, so folks can see some of the individual pieces, and the see detail hidden right now by the black prime...

Yeah. It was a thought! I didn't plan that far ahead when I built the tardis on the fly. But I think it is a good idea... Maybe play him as an inquisitor?

Haha! Kinda assumed that. But the 'real' basement was all I had before Dropbox died on the world last night.
After work at the end of this week I'll upload close ups for you. It is in the first half of the YouTube video tho... So you don't have to wait...

http://youtu.be/ywgXJkpyXrs

I built the dungeon area in a way that it has 2 walled pieces... Plus the back apse walls... But as a large model by itself, it could also be good area terrain.
And we have some fantasy armies too... So the thought was in my mind when I built it that the support walls and the basement could also be used for fantasy games too...

Thanks brain555 - and of course you can pilfer the stairs. Well, the concept - took me ages to make the ACTUAL stairs so you can't have them!
