But it was . He didn't take any WK , but took reapers . Had 0 broadsides and his troops were 2 units of sniper kroot and a unit of jetbikers. That is a casual taudar list . A I don't understand the coteaz comment , everyone who can does take him . I play him too in my IG list , almost every imperial , tau and eldar player whos build isn't suit to use him takes him . Saying that he is not a casual unit is like saying that an army is not casual because it took the obligatory 2 troop units.
How many "casual Tau builds" have two riptides and Eldar allies?
all that I have ever seen . either it is tau+farsight or it is tau+eldar . I have never seen someone play mono tau . And since coteaz became legal for anyone to take , I have not seen many armies without him . Only people that don't use him are those who don't own the model

That's not casual, that's powergaming. Casual use of allies is to make fluffy combos, not to spam psychic buff characters.

Lol. I think the Nid release has your sarcasm button stuck these days.
Totally agree. That is not a casual build. Just because he didn't fit WK, riptides, inquisition, seer star, WS, and missile sides into the same list does not make it casual. That is a brutal list, and for the Nid player to have been competitive after the cardinal sin of not full out rushing is actually pretty revealing.

Meh what do you take in tau to be non-competitive without deliberately selecting all the worst stuff.

Stealthsuits, Firewarriors in Devilfish, Hammerheads, Piranhas, Pathfinders...there are a lot of units you can take in the Tau codex that aren't spammed OP units. Also, leaving the farseer and inquisitor at home is a good start at keeping a list "casual" and "fun".

Sure thing , then he would have had broadsides and fire warriors and then the nid player wouldn't have fun . My friend took the eldar to make the list more for fun , the nid player knew it too . He took no serpents , no WK , no sides . There is only one army in the entire game that is ment to be played without ally and it is the nids . Every other army is at least made out of 2 books . Saying that using a seer or inq , which everyone uses , somehow makes it non casual is laughable . What is next , taking cheap troops to get the good units or maybe use multiple good choices to make them work?

In the end it wasn't really even close. 2 12 wound Carnifex squads (I think they were 3 wounds each in 5th but not sure) with close supporting zoanthorpes (and he rolled catalyst so was giving them FnP) . They basically just marched up the board and smashed the crap out of my Chimeras with just their Hammer of Wrath. The amount of high S fire power I brought was just not enough and between the monsterous creatures and ridiculous numbers of gaunts I got overwhelmed and was crushed. Personally I think the new dex has some major holes in it but overall it seems that it also has some things that work rather well together.
Only because you have no clue how to handle it yet. This will be a repetitive story in the next couple weeks. Nid army crushes soandso. Then you will hear about better target priority (Synapse) and more tactics and the Nids will drop back into a far more beatable army.
Ah, It's nice when someone decides a loss means the player has no idea what's going on. It's not just about target priority. You can shoot all you want at whatever happens to have the synapse going, as long as your opponent has a clue about things like cover or forcing a change in priority then you still have that wonderful overwhelming factor. It will be interesting to see how other armies fair against them, but combing nidzilla with a ton of screening gaunts and whatever hiding around for synapse might be the common sight. It's a ton of wounds to try to get through but that's the point isn't it?
The problem of synapse wont be solved by overwhelming the enemy with targets since all they have to do to kill those targets is to kill one piece of synapse, the flyrant is great and all but if it cant survive fire from 1-2 NS and that is basically your army then it isnt really all that reliable. I think that if synapse didnt mean your army is gone if it doesnt have it then the dex wouldnt be nearly as bad as it is (still bad but at least it could beat orks and BA)
Also Consider that Synapse only seems to mater at the beginning of a turn so should a unit get locked into combat it ignores the synapse issue. Not much of a bonus but I suppose it's something.

Either your trolling or have no clue. That build is about top end competitive as you can make, making out on elite units and skill sets.

Combat without synapse is a nightmare for Tyranids as their cc stuff has underwhelming K/D ratio and without the Fearless provided by synapse, this means lots of lost combats and units destroyed by Sweeping Advance.

I don't think anyone who had a neutral stance would ever consider the army you describe as freindly or casual.....
Many people can and do use one Codex - which is completely legit - if you want to try and get the best of several worlds its best not to pretend that its being casual.
Statements that eveyone uses Cheesy combos does not make them less Cheesy..........
