Because there was only 5pts spare. Drop 1 more death co model and you can upgrade that flamer to a melta and give the sarge an infernus pistol. Would be reasonably efficient against tanks on the drop.

Can't exactly say a DC dread can't deal w tanks... Same with the stormraven

Stormraven is ace against tanks. A dc dread usually struggles to catch one mind. But when it does, 6 st7 attacks on rear armour is usually very nice.

Add in a libby (so the death co still get rerolls to hit if not wound, or even better - cast prescience on the dread.) Then you can afford the points for a third assault squad with flamer in a pod. Now you have 3 pods so the death co and dread come down together.
Unfortunately my 500 point list is stuck. Part of the league rules are that we play 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 point games - What we take in the 500 point list has to appear in the 1000, and they both have to appear in the 1500 etc etc
I like the drop pod idea, I know I'm playing against two Tau players, so ideally I'd like to just drop behind their lines. They'll never stand up to a Death Company assault

Another victory! Tabled a Smurf player, he had a tactical squad, five man sniper team, and one of the new HQs,he forgot some rules, I forgot I could re-roll to hits and to wound.
I dropped the Death Company dread right behind his lines, killed most of the squad guarding his objective so he sent his HQ to assault it, blood talons (I LOVE THEM!) killed off any one left
I ran my Reclusiarch + 10 death company down the left flank, assault the troops that remained. Only four were in range to attack but they killed off a 5 man squad and the dreadnought moved across the back line and killed off his other combat squad
Then I footslogged after the scouts that were mid table and managed to get into assault.
I only lost 3 troops Automatically Appended Next Post: Sorry for any typos, typing and trying to avoid street lights on the pavement (sidewalk) is a hazard aha

haha yep. To be honest, I was stupidly lucky, I got the warlord trait that grants +1 to your assault range, I was 12" away from assault and rolled a double six, my FNP rolls only failed 3 times, the drop pod landed where I wanted it. Yeh, the dice gods were on my side.
I think that's my plan for the 1000 points, just hope I get first turn and drop as much stuff as I can, that he can't ignore behind his lines. The Dreadnought ruined his game plan yesterday, his HQ was in the rhino and it was one of two things that could hurt a dreadnought, so he had to jump out and get killed

Really the only thing you have is maneuverability. So try to find a weak flank, swarm to it, and fold their army. I tend to have a small detachment on the field in the beginning and use lots of drop pods and stormravens. Win or lose my turn two is always entertaining.
That's going to be the hard thing, at the minute I have one drop pod, a death company Dread and 1 HQ with 10 death company. Either the dread or the troops will have to footslog across a game board lol
Just reiterating what I said before...
Brother Payne wrote:Seriously consider adding another 2 DC and sticking them and the dread in a stormraven. That makes for one mean combo.
Then I'd suggest and assault squad (maybe in the pod seeing as you got it) for some scoring.
Then finally maybe a second assault squad in a razorback (only 120pts barebones) or scouts. Definitely another scoring unit though, at 1000 tabling is no longer quite so viable
Take a stormraven! It can carry both the DC and the dread, then you've got a pod for another unit
What would you arm everything with? Wouldn't it be better choosing a tactical squad instead of a second assault squad, only asking because the tactical team is 10 points cheaper
ah, ok, maybe not. I've just removed the jump packs and yeh, 120 points *i'm not worthy, I'm not worthy* haha
I'm tempted to keep the assault cannon, it has more shots and it's rending, so would be more reliable than the plasma/las cannon against vehicles? but I like the
I know I'll face

Ork Nobz (all upgraded with cybork armour)

On the raven, definitely keep the AC - if you can afford it get hurricane sponsons and the typhoon ML too - if you only have points for 1 then take hurricane if you think you'll be against more hordes/infantry and the typhoon if you're expecting more MEQ/armour
For the barebones assault squad in the razor leave it exactly that - barebones - the razor too, not just the squad
For the JP squad, I like a power axe for that extra bit of AP2 and then a plas or two on regular marines. Tend not to give the sarge anything else (ie. infernus pistol) because he'll probably die in a challenge at some point.
For the DC, run with whatever you've got at the moment.
Hope that helps Automatically Appended Next Post: 1000 on the dot:

Ended up going for an infernus after all (note: not on the sarge). So yeah, this should fare ok against most lists

Exactly 500. That's about as good as it comes. Only issue is no AA...
I think this is actually 510.
I was looking for a small list like that for my 1st BA army (I´m pretty new to 40k) and currently own a libby, 2 assault squads, razorback, baal pred, 1 sang. guard squad, 2 attacks bikes and 3 land speeders (most painted). I bought them cause I love models and BA overall, but now I´d like to make my army based on 500 or 1000 points (just for some fun matches in my local store). Can I make a decent list in terms of competitiveness with the stuff I already have? thx in advance, I like the quoted list but I guess it needs some modifications for 500.

I have to disagree on both accounts. At 100pts he need the extra AT capabilities. Typhoons can deal with light armour and infantry easily whereas the hurricanes are a bit more restrictive. Regarding the razor, I find that everything else is to expensive for what it's worth. The TL heavy bolters work well to support the assault's squad capabilities too.

You're right and wrong at the same time: it's not 500...... It's 540! I think I've gone crazy.
Now I don't know what to do - if I drop the hvy bolters and melta bombs that makes it 505, but everything ales is barebones. The assault marines obviously can't go. The Libby can't go (and is as cheap as HQs come anyway). The Sang Priest is kinda crucial. And the Baal Pred is the AT support.
I'll have to give this a good think - I'll get back to you on this.

Yes because a TL lascannon are not worth 35pts more than a TL AC. On the other hand, the typhoon is easily worth it's points
