The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Yeah, the Custodes are definitely too small in that Master of mankind cover. Interestingly though, some of them are wielding the new plastic shields from the BoP boxset, so the artist must've got an early look at BoP.

Neil Roberts does all of the Horus Heresy cover art, including box art. He has over time become quite involved with the whole Horus Heresy art direction.

It's something of a tipo'the hat towards mythology where the hero has to sacrifice part of themselves to gain knowledge.
The most well known example of course being Odin..
.. who was kinda a viking or norse or barbarian god....
... not that there's any connection between the 1k sons, norse like warriors and Ragnarok/The End Times of course.

I finished The Beheading, by Guy Haley, and with it, the Beast Arises series.
I liked the series as a whole, even if it did seem repetitive with the last couple of books, and I really wish we got a book from the Ork perspective. The series had a few neat twists and suprise reveals, The Beheading having the best reveal (early Horus Heresy novel related) at about 2/3rds into it, in my opinion. I may have to skim through the series again, because although the character in question seems boring and stereotypical, some of the characters passing comments and references end up carrying more weight after the reveal.
A certain 40K character gets a passing mention at the end as well, which was pretty cool, as I'm a big fan of that character.
In this particular novel, I felt the ending was rushed, but overall it was a fun read. I think all of the loose threads throughout the series were tied up, but never really expanded upon, as I mentioned, the end felt rushed.
I hope they continue with these self contained limited series. I don't think they need to be this long though. Easily 2-3 novels could have been trimmed and combined.

Early in the series, a wizened old Inquisitor shows up and he's pretty ruthless. The stereotypical hard core Inquisitor. Not very interesting and pretty boring. But he is key to certain plot points, such as the location of Vulkan and the Sisters of Silence.
Spoiler:
Veritus is the character in question, Wienand being another Inquisitor central to the series.
On the Grey Knights:
“They are called the Grey Knights,’ said Veritus. ‘They are a force of warriors without peer, engineered from gene-seed taken from the Emperor Himself a thousand years ago. A last, parting gift from our god before He was taken from us to sit upon His Golden Throne.’
‘They are Adeptus Custodes then?’ Wienand rubbed her hand along the wood. Whereas the bench in the Sigillite’s Retreat was smooth and dry, the grain of this wood was rough under her touch, the strands of lignin still swollen with moisture. Although dead, it smelt fresh; a sense of life still clung to it.
‘They are greater than the Adeptus Custodes,’ said Veritus.”
That may be common knowledge though, I'm not to into their lore. I always thought it was a mystery on what they were created from.
On the Inquisitions founding:
“There were once four of us,’ he reminded her.
There were four founding members of the Inquisition, thought Wienand, but his being one was impossible. Even so, he must have been heir to that line, and the system of the four lords was long defunct.
‘You’re older than I thought.’
‘Much older,’ he said. ‘I…’ He blinked. ‘I… Wienand?’
‘Veritus? Are you all right?”
On who he truly is:
"“It is the truth,’ said Veritus. With a last effort, he pulled on Wienand’s hands, his knuckles white, half lifting his frail body. His face lost some of the lines of pain, becoming open and lighter. He smiled, pleased to share his great secret at last. ‘My name was Kyril Sindermann. I was chief iterator to the Sixty-Third expedition of the Great Crusade. I was present when Horus abandoned the love of the Emperor for the lies of the enemy. I was there as the Luna Wolves were corrupted from within. I was there at Isstvan III when brother turned on brother. I endured the Siege of Terra, and I knew Saint Euphrati, the first of the saints, as a friend.’
He sank back into the mattress.
‘And…’ he gasped. ‘And…’
Wienand leaned in. His last words were as arid and hushed as wind blowing over sand.
‘And I was there the day the Emperor slew Horus."
Thats the big reveal I mentioned in my original post. I thought it was pretty cool, and it caught me by suprise. Really changed how I view the character.
And the 40K character mentioned is Gazghkul mag uruk thraka, apparently he is the next Beast.

One gathers that something happens to the planet Ullanor -- teleports or something ?
One gathers that the hint/implication is that this world becomes known under a different name.
Armegeddon.
Which ties into the Ghaz. titbit perhaps ?
edit : Huh, confirmed by BL.
Nice touch.
