It's Titan war! With a vastly superior group of Chaos-tained Warlord Titans wreaking havoc on their allies, Battle Group Indictus – a handful of Reavers and Warhounds – must find a way to defeat the corrupted daemon-machines and save a world.
READ IT BECAUSE
It's little (well, relatively) Titans vs big Titans powered by daemonic forces, with an ancient grudge thrown in for good measure.
THE STORY
War has come to Placia Mundus with the arrival of Dark Mechanicus forces, including several Warlord Titans corrupted by the Warp Powers. The Imperial Guard requires support. The closest battle group, Indictus, has been despatched to take down the war machines. The problem? Indictus is only a handful of Reavers and Warhounds. Princeps Prime Sythikus will have to lead fearlessly and without flaw to defeat their superior opponents. When his own Titan recognises an ancient foe among the enemy ranks and seeks revenge, the plan threatens to fall apart, potentially taking with it all chance of victory.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

City of Secrets could very well be set in the World That Was.
Yu-huh, sure, righto.
In the same way that Star Wars could be set in Star Trek because they both have space ships in them.
Care to give us a breakdown why you think that, Captain Caustic? Did you read it?
As someone who bought and read all Warhammer fiction from the Genevieve series up until the End Times, barring most limited edition stuff, I'd say City of Secrets could've easily fit into the Old World, barring the very brief appearances of like 6 Stormcasts.

but im talking the gathering storm stuff, which features artwork and font changes and differences
its not a regular BL release
I use Calibre for those as well, its fine as long as you keep the aspect ratio "book" like, rather than maximise it for the width of the average monitor. Normally I stick them on my tablet and view in portrait mode.

I'd say so, personally.
It is fairly short, and probably just a prologue to a future series(hopefully), but for me it called to mind A Murder in Marienburg, amongst other WHFB novels set exclusively in its cities.

Yup, I have been saying this whole time that it's an awesome blend of high and low fantasy and it's pretty awesome to see how the races live together. Remind me of elder scrolls in a sense, I have been telling people in my circles that city of secrets is a great pilot/intro novel for this phase of the fluff.

Erm it's pretty gritty when they describe the slums of the city as I said it blends elements in an interesting way.

What are the Horusian Wars?
'So you're doing a book on Inquisitors…'
'Yup.'
'Cool, but what is this Horusian War thing?'
What indeed.
Prompted by a few short stories I did last year, questions like this keep coming up. Which is great, because at the back of all authors' skulls lurks the dread that we have decided to tell a story that no one will be interested in. But, thankfully, you guys are intrigued, and the questions have made me think that I should give some kind of answer on what the Horusian Wars are. So here I am, not with one answer, but, of course, with several.
Answer 1: The Horusian Wars is my next 'thing'.
By 'thing', I mean the topic of most of my writing for Black Library at the moment (apart from the Horus Heresy, and no, I haven't forgotten Ahriman).
It's called Resurrection and it is out in the summer.
Here is the nearly finished cover, and the text from the back.
'War rages in the Caradryad Sector. Worlds are falling to madness and rebellion, and the great war machine of the Imperium is moving to counter the threat. Amongst its agents is Inquisitor Covenant. Puritan, psyker, expert swordsman, he reserves an especial hatred for those of his order who would seek to harness the power of Ruin as a weapon. Summoned to an inquisitorial conclave, Covenant believes he has uncovered such a misguided agent and prepares to denounce the heretic Talicto before his fellows. But when the gathering is attacked and many left dead in its wake, Covenant vows to hunt down Talicto and discover the truth behind the mysterious cult apparently at the heart of the massacre. In the murky plot into which he is drawn, Covenant knows only one thing for certain: trust no one.'
Answer 2: The Horusian Wars are stories of a war between factions of the Inquisition
The Inquisition in Warhammer 40,000 is riven by different visions of truth and salvation, and arguments about how far is too far when you wield the authority of the Emperor. The Horusians are one such faction.
To quote from the classic Inquisitor game:
'…there are those whose beliefs go even further, and are known as Horusians. The Horusians look to the Primarch Horus who was a mighty being invested with immense Chaos power, and see an opportunity wasted. They believe that a new Horus could be created, invested with great energy from the Warp, but one who would unite all of Mankind for its betterment, rather than enslaving it to Chaos.'
Needless to say those beliefs will play a role in things...
Answer 3: The Horusian Wars are lots of different stories
When I was writing the Ahriman trilogy, one of the things that happened almost accidentally was that the series braodened from novels into micro-shorts, short stories, and audio dramas. It all started when I was asked to write a short story to go with the release of Exile, and I wrote All is Dust. Another followed, and I found was enjoying exploring the side characters and stories so much that every time I was asked if I would like to do a story for an anthology, or a script for an audio drama, I would say 'Sure, I'll do something about Ahriman.' Eventually there were enough stories that they got their own anthology: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N75PTCS
I really enjoyed letting what began as side characters take centre stage. It's also one of the things about Ahriman series that people told me they really liked. Along with 'Are you doing another run of Ahriman?' the question I get messaged most is 'Can we have more Ctesias tales, please?'
So, as soon as Resurrection got a green light from Black Library, I knew I wanted to do extra stuff around Horusian Wars, but this time with more of a plan. That plan currently extends to lots of different types of stories and formats that fall into four main branches:
1) Novels – the main course, the spine, the core.
2) The arcana short stories – that's not an official title, but more how I think about them. Each story is a bit like a card from a tarot deck, and explorers the story behind one the characters from the series.
Two of them are out already:
The Purity of Ignorance
A story about Ianthe, one of Covenant's tame killers and field agents.
A third story is already written, and I hope to do more soon.
3) [Redacted] – how cool is that? Honestly, this is one project that makes me grin every time I think about it.
4) [Redacted]
So there you go –now you know all there is to know, at least for now.

Deathwatch omnibus and Horusian Wars look like good bets to me. Pretty sure the Gaunt's Ghosts omnibuses are just more expensive reprints of the old omnibuses. I wonder if Abnett even bothers to cash his royalty checks from BL anymore. "Oh, those guys are still selling books? Good for them."
... the following is from the recent "Dante" novel by Guy Haley.
It is written by Sanguinius himself during the Siege of Imperial Palace and read by Dante during a crisis of faith and despair
Spoiler:
The hunger came for my father. The puppets of the Dark Gods clashed with the hunger for the pleasure of killing him. There was a warrior in gold before the throne, surrounded by my father's Custodians and other heroes who, mighty through they were, paled next to the lords of our days. There they fought, and there they died. The vision ended as the devourer of flesh and the devourers of souls closed in on my lord and creator. There was despair only, despair and more despair. But before I woke something more. I sensed stirring in the warp, and the touch of my father, His mind made anew, and the knowledge that all might be well. As I am fated to, so did this golden warrior lay down his life to protect my father. The precious seconds he bought with his blood could change everything, or they could change nothing... I do not know who this golden warrior was. He appeared similar to my Herald, and saw my own face depicted upon his mask, but he was not me, and he wore a form off armour I do not know...'
...however it should be noted that the author says :
"It's all made up!!! It's a vision written down by a primarch on the edge ten thousand years ago, of one possible future, if Sanguinius wrote it at all. What's important is what Dante believes (or rather hopes) it to mean, not what it actually does mean. I don't have such power to decide the future of GW's universes, Andrey Nalyotov. There are no super secret special hints in there, I'm afraid. It is purposefully ambiguous."
... but of course that doesn't preclude, say, the studio writers reading/knowing that and maybe folding certain things into stories/events/books.

Back on this hobby horse again but I see BL are selling off the good quality heresy prints at £20 a go which is pretty good but are keeping with the crappy poster format for new ones but get this. They show a pic of various prints, old style and new neatly put in line on a wall but don't show that the new ones are a different size and that the border is a different colour!!

When a traitor Warhound pack spots a loyalist Titan striding through the ruins of Absalom, they know they have found a target worthy of their battle-pack, and eagerly launch their attack…
READ IT BECAUSE
Titans battle Titans in the midst of the Horus Heresy, but nothing is quite as it seems when the Ember Wolves strike.
THE STORY
On the hive world of Absalom, god-machines go to war: loyalist Titans under the banner of the Fabricator General of Terra clash against the forces of Horus Lupercal, Warmaster and arch-traitor. By the time the Emperor-class Titans of the Legio Castigatra arrive, the Legio Audax, also known as the Ember Wolves, have long been lying in wait for their prey. When a traitor Warhound pack spots the loyalist Titan Tantorus Magnificat striding through the ruins, they know they have found a target worthy of their battle-pack, and eagerly launch their attack. Though their hunt is successful, when the Warhound princeps gather round their downed prey, they discover that their fight is not yet over.
