That my man is a jewel of a trilogy particularly the last book. It won a Gemmel award some time ago. Yes it's a reprint but well worth a few reads if you like old style Robert E Howard fantasy, or as I like to call it proper fantasy! It's early McNeil so maybe not his best but great all the same.
Just dont read an age of sigmar after it or you will get depressed.
On a different note the Ruinstorm cover is awful, both the lion and the angel look like complete nobs. Why oh why would you keep putting that hair on the angel, surely at some point you would pretend he got a haircut. The lion looks like an angry bilked out Eminem
That was back when the McNeil effect was in full swing. Read halfway through one of his books, hit a wall, put down book for 3 months, pick it up where you left off, finish it, love it. Bam-you've been McNeiled.

THE STORY
Under almost constant besiegement by the hosts pouring from the Eye of Terror, Cadia acts as a bulwark against tyranny and death. Its fortresses and armies have held back the hordes of Chaos for centuries, but that grim defiance is about to reach its end. As Abaddon's Thirteenth Black Crusade batters Cadia's defences, and armies of the Imperium flock to reinforce this crucial world, a terrible ritual long n the making comes to fruition and the delicate balance of this brutal war shifts… From the darkness, a hero rises to lead the beleaguered defenders, Lord Castellan Ursarkar Creed, but even with the armoured might of the Astra Militarum and the strength of the Adeptus Astartes, will it be enough to avert disaster and prevent the fall of Cadia? While Creed lives, there is hope. While there is breath in the body of a single defender, Cadia stands… but for how much longer?

A Horus Heresy audio drama
Infamous even among the mercenary "Blackshields", former World Eater Endryd Haar and his warband face trials that drive them to the brink of destruction as they try to survive the Horus Heresy.
LISTEN TOIT BECAUSE
It's a very different kind of story from the Heresy – no loyalists or traitors here, simply Space Marines cast adrift from their Legions, their loyalties in tatters, trying to survive in a very hostile universe.
THE STORY
Renouncing fealty to all masters or driven mad by the rigours of war, the Blackshields are a stain upon any Legion they once served. Regarded as little better than pirates, their loyalty is only to themselves. Infamous among their mercenary ranks is Endryd Haar, a former World Eater, driven by hatred, his blade pledged to no banner but his own. But estranged from his Legion and surrounded by a battered warband of warriors, how long can Haar and his Blackshields hope to endure?

Long before he brought Chaos and war to the Imperium, the primarch Lorgar was raised on the world of Colchis, used as a weapon by the xealot Kor Phaeron in his bid to control the whole world. But Lorgar's destiny was far greater…
READ IT BECAUSE
We've seen Lorgar's fall to Chaos and rise as the high priest of Horus's rebellion, but for the first time, the full story of Lorgar's time on Colchis and Kor Phaeron's part in his childhood is told.
THE STORY
On the world of Colchis, mighty religions rule a decaying society in the name of absent gods – until the arrival of Lorgar. Primarch, prophet, leader of destiny, the Golden One is raised by Kor Phaeron, priest of the Covenant, to be his weapon in a quest for power. As religious war spreads across the planet, spearheaded by the Brotherhood of Lorgar, the primarch is plagued by visions of the future and the coming of the Emperor. To find his place in this new order, he must reach balance between the teachings of his adopted father Kor Phaeron, and the fate that he knows awaits him among the stars.

Finished the Crimson King. Very good read. At first it is slow but it is worth it. Many tasty morsels for HH fans but also for ones who read Ahriman series and even a special for Inquisition followers

Might be a silly question, but does a weekender ticket come with book(s) for that price, or simply entry to sit and listen to some people talk?
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, having just finished the Dark Imperium book, anyone else catch the reference to Nurgle Maggoths being one of the units involved in the fight against Guilliamn on Espandor. Maggoths are currently only a unit from the Fantasy End Times and now AoS Nurgle Rotbringers faction. Is it possible this is pointing to a cross over product? Much like the FW Plague Toads and Pox Riders originally were a Tamurkhan Fantasy unit entry but have appeared in the Indexes previewed last week.

Normally you get a small event only book, some sort of bag, a printed programme and I think a bookmark? You certainly do not get copies of the new releases
If you go you'll see a couple of the regulars buying a huge pile of each of the limited editions for resale.
The Black Library and HH weekenders aren't cheap, most people will need to factor in a stay in the hotel and food on top of that. They are great weekends though offering a level above Warhammer Fest in terms of time with the GW staff.
I'm not going this time to the BL Weekender although I have done it in the past. I prefer the HH weekender as there is more gaming on.

Be careful on the new look limited editions they look absolutely awesome. I've bought Dante, Warlord, Carrion Throne and Jain Zar. Unfortunately 3 out of 4 have had to be replaced after just one read as the metallic guilding on the cover has flaked off really badly. I'm not the only one this has happened to. I'm feeling more optimistic as I literally just minutes ago finished Jain Zar and it seems to be intact. Although the front and back of it are standard soft touch laminate not leather effect. The laminate is a different and somewhat cheaper look than the leather effect. But the spine, which is leather effect, that almost vanished on Carrion Throne has stayed intact.
On a different note Jain Zar is absolutely stonkingly brilliant. Eldar books can be great and this is a great one. Delving into the aftermath of the fall.

It might be bonded leather. Which is like mince meat or a beef burger. Basically little bits of leather (leftovers) put into a mix, dried and formed. It's what is used on the forge world black books. But I'm not so sure with these limited eds they look fake (plastic) leather. They really do look fantastic and I hope they get the problem sorted out.

I like them as well, but it annoys me that the spines do not line up even remotely close to each other. I was hoping they would be a nice matching set as with Beast Arises but no such luck.

Less fancy guff, more actual quality. My old Gaunts Ghosts hardbacks might not be Premium Special Limited Edition Leatheresque or whatever, but once you take the dust covers off they're a nice, uniform bottle-green with gold lettering(that doesn't flake off) and they look good on the shelf when I'm not reading them.
They should be following the example of FWHH books by making all the hardcovers in the same matching style, a tasteful style like the Carrion Throne one in that picture there, and then they can plaster all the gaudy and faction-specific nonsense on a matt-effect dust jacket that people can discard if they want to.
BL seem to have the same concept of "limited edition" as videogame publishers - more, brighter, bigger, loadsa plastic stuff - when I'm fairly sure most folk would rather have a high quality collectible if they're going to spend forty sodding quid on a normal length novel.
"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

The Primarchs series matches nicely, the Beast Arises series matches, and some of the others also match, I particularly like the format for the trilogies and other reissues: http://www.blacklibrary.com/Home/gaunts-ghosts-trilogy-ltd.html. I hope they stick to that with the Ghost reissues...
That the new format do not match is a mistake and a missed opportunity. I can see for some it will be a minor thing but it does annoy me.

I know what you mean. But it's think they work together as they are the same in style. I'm not sure I would like them all the same. Although the FW black books look magnificent on the shelf together and they are all the same. Still they are nice collectors pieces.

It is shocking that all of yours have fallen apart. I haven't read mine as I've read the ebooks instead, I mostly read at night when I work away so a back lit kindle is preferable.
I was hoping we'd see the spines in matching layout but different colour leather for the different series. So the books in the Carrion Throne series in red, the new stuff centred around ~42m in black, and so on.
All the FW books match up within their series (30k/40k), which is great, I just hope they do not change the format when the new IA books come out.
It is very first world problem though, up there with those who buy books by the yard.

Bred for war, a Death Korps trooper takes the unthinkable step of embracing peace. But in the 41st Millennium, war follows…
READ IT BECAUSE
It's a unique look at the Death Korps, showing that their vat-bred inhumanity can't quite stamp out the basic human desire to be free and also asking if the price of freedom is too high.
THE STORY
After the horrors of war and the devastation of a world, one unnamed trooper from the Death Korps of Krieg – vat-born, grown to be a soldier – has had enough. Removing his uniform, he takes the identity of a fallen civilian and joins the workforce on the world he fought to liberate. But can this soldier overcome his conditioning and training and serve the Imperium in a new way, or will he forever be a warrior of the Astra Militarum?

I will have to set aside my burning hatred of all ebooks for this one.
Really wish they would let Steve have a go at a full length Death Korps novel. Dead man walking was indeed throughly depressing (in a good way if that's possible!)
I'm really missing guard stories these last few years they seem to have disappeared. I know we have one coming at the end of the year from Abnett but it would be nice to see a few more.

I used to game with the author both in New York and Hong Kong, great charming guy, established author of contemporary and historical fiction. When he was a kid he took off to Eritrea as a VSO volunteer and wrote his first book about it. I really like his stuff.
He did a Warhammer book years ago under the pseudonym Justin Hunter, called Ragged Company? Forged in Honor? Something like that. It was... OK.
The Creed stories were nice but suffered both from the plot armor problem (that Creed guy, he survives) and generally that we hear how brilliant he is but never really see it. And the worlds and situations in the stories lacked the texture I would have expected from Justin.
So I may well pick it up but since it feels like part of a bigger crossover/storyline I don't have much expectation. I'd rather see Justin do his own thing.
