Oh I wasn't being snitty, I just thought I should clarify why I didn't stick in a link. I probably should stick one in with every post, but as I haven't created this thread in any official capacity, nor do I spend much effort actually formatting it in amazing ways, I don't really bother much with my posts half the time. ...Not to say I actually bother my arse with making threads about my own stuff too shiny either, but that sounds like a better excuse than "I'm a lazy git and this is free publicity for Crooked Dice, so its hardly like I have to keep this thing too tidy unless Ulti Long Smile turns up and calls me out on it (which given his habits I'd imagine is going to happen just after I post this). =)

Love the new stuff by Mr. Veingart. Heads might be a bit too exaggerated on some, but the detailing is great. The other stuff is soft, wooden, and amateur-ish in comparison.

My thoughts exactly with the Veingart stuff. They're only a small company, and sculptors are limited by how much they can work on at one time, but I'd love if they transitioned over to just using him (or said good bye to the other guy, no offence, its just that he's in an entirely different ballpark). Its that for the price I'd rather be buying those much higher quality sculpts instead. That and they have much more character. I've seen painted ones though and yeah, people don't really do them justice unfortunately. t'd raise the bar a whole lot of Crooked Dice were to start putting out all sculpts of this quality consistently, as with their other miniatures they an come across as just a bit amateurish or at least nuanced (...which didn't effect me sticking the Veingart sculpts first in my post, nope).

I've been looking at the Veingart sculpts and thinking that I may not have a use for them, but they're so nice that I should just buy them anyway. Big Tam's been a favourite character about here (not least because he's a massive Scottish stereotype), and I may just pick him up to give to a mate for his birthday). That L1A1 needs it barrel replaced though as its too thick, plus the whole silencer is just wrong (oh god if that's a silencer. Either that or a horrible muzzle. ...Please tell me that's supposed to be just an inaccurate silencer), and it could do with a strap too.
Something that's been discussed around here has been Crooked Dice's apparent over reliance on the Doctor Who franchise. The whole 7Tv game's just an evolution of their Doctor Who one, so a lot of its themes are carried over. However its been questioned if Crooked Dice has the rights to make Doctor Who models, and well the iffy areas they could find themselves in if they don't. They don't of course, and that's a problem as another company which also makes Doctor Who models, who had the license at one point, but lost it, has been suffering legal issues over the matter (though they claim that they aren't making any new models, they just happen to keep finding old stock that was never released). That, and well youknow there was other Tv shows out during the 70's. I'd hate to see the main 7Tv game just become Doctor Who centric and have everything else relegated to expansions (which though would make that content more complete, would detract from the base game). With the development of 80s Tv (or whatever it'll be called) hopefully this won't follow through, and well it isn't a massive irk, but its certainly a grumble around these parts. Hopefully Crooked Dice will diversify, but I did complain a little to Graeme when I saw him about Hugo Solomon changing from being based off of one show (which I can't recall the name of. Oi screw you I wasn't born in the 50's!) to Doctor Who, though at least he now has an alternative head to bring him more in line with the original character (Pandora King hasn't however). Anyway, in short: for a game about 70's TV, with its recent releases it really aught to diversify itself more. That and yes, Doctor Who is more popular than other IPs from that period with modern gamers, but appealing to just that one fanbase is making the game come across as just a new iteration of the Doctor Who miniature's game rather than an in independent production (and well given that Crooked Dice is known by the people who own Doctor Who's IP, I doubt they should be drawing so much attention to themselves).
Spiel over with there. Now start ripping off creating homages to other series like Ghostbusters and Die Hard. What? The 80's were a miles better decade than the 70's. *Dodges Captain Scarlett toys.

Aside from Tweety (who sports a fez) and a few of the not-Who girls I'm giving their Doctor Who range a wide berth, I'm simply not a fan, besides, it's a bit too whimsical for me to plop on the table top.
Mind, they may be doing all these Who minis because of the new season coming sooner or later(?) and they've got a 7TV magic splatbook coming soon IIRC.

Who knows? =/
I will say that Graeme had a few new copies of the Doctor Who Miniatures game available at the Crooked Dice stall at the show I was at. He said if there was interest he'd make hard copies of the expansions too, but I'm not sure if any of that's related to all of the new minis. Yeah they may well be just riding the wave of the upcoming new season, but if that means every release up until then's going to have that theme then I'm not going to be too excited. Veingart hasn't done any sculpts for anything other than the Doctor Who stuff, so perhaps they brought him in so they'd have high quality minis for that, and will just as soon drop him once they don't need any more of those (or when there's no more interest in Capaldi's Doctor). That's a real pity though, as I'd like to see more from that sculptor in 28mm ( as far as I know 54mm's his forte), and his work's a vast improvement over Crooked Dice's other miniatures. However they could also be paying him a higher fee than their regular sculptor, which makes the notion that they've just brought him in to nail down a great like of Doctor Who minis for them so they can spend the cash they make off of Who fans on their other stuff.

Hasslefree didn't finish off its Borderlands minis, so that put me in a mood with them. They've slowed their releases lately, but I'm liking their latest previews. I'm just hoping they release more video game related models, though I'm hardly enthusiastic about their Stargate line (never watched anything bar the movie)

Updates? Updates... Woops, been a while.
Well this came up on Crooked Dice's Facebook page.
By now we have probably signed another license agreement. One you have almost certainly never ever heard of though. On the plus side it's a Crooked Dice expenses meal out tonight with the sculptor and his ladyfriend! Massive ales all round!
Then these were posted... (due out in September)
Four Paranormal Exterminators, sculpted by Mark Evans.
Ectoplasm Entity
At the moment the upcoming supplements that I'm aware of are: a D&D one, a fantasy/magic one and an 80s one (ie the Ghostbusters above). So do we have another one along with those being put together? ...Damn, more books to buy in any case.

Hey I'm all for a bloody eighties expansion. For one I'll actually know what half the references are... (which is something commonly noted about the base game). Heh, I just hope that they change the rules somewhat to reflect the difference between 70s and 80s media though. More blood, swearing and silly action scenes are a must. ...That and plenty of references to Stallone and Swartzenager would be cool (oh and Weird Al too ). The Ghostbusters were the one thing I knew were planned for 80s Tv, so I have no idea where they're going from there (at least I know where to find a spare Ecto-1 though).

One day, when I've cleared out a lot more of my painting backlog, I'll actually get around to putting in an order for all the CD stuff I want.
Gave 7TV a whirl once and enjoyed it (more for the silliness than anything else), but there was no uptake locally.

About a half dozen people play the game here. The uptakes probably more than elsewhere because the game's made in Scotland and its not too difficult to get a hold of its creators. The problem with it is that it involves a bit more roleplaying than your average game, so it can be a bit odd for those who usually play shootier games. Though there's only a handful of regular players here, with me using the rules for my Fallout games its fairly easy to pick up people who're not into the base game all that much. That and the rules are fairly simple to learn, so its not too difficult for new people. With the 80s and D&D supplements I'm thinking that the game will be more appealing than it is right now, as I do feel it takes too much from 70s Tv (...yes, that is its name) and Doctor Who. I don't really use the rules for anything bar zombie games and for Fallout though (at least in the games I arrange), so any new rules which come out are typically cannibalised for those. A D7D expansion could be interesting however ...if I really want to put together yet another mini and terrain collection. =P

It will be good for them to branch out into more familiar waters. I do notice that the Facebook page is full of nostalgic older guys who blab on about stuff I am honestly clueless about.
I still need to pick up a dead tree version of Vlad's Army, it will look nice on my shelf, plus I'll prolly need it for the upcoming Halloween thing now that the 40k Halloween scenario has officially been torpedoed.

Crap, and here's me forgetting about Halloween again. 7ombieTv's easy enough for people to take up, so I'll probably try a game of that again. Hmn, a game of that with a The Last of Us theme (it'll give me an excuse to finish my Infected and but Hasslefree's Joel and Ellie). Hell there's probably rules for that pair on Crooked Dice's forum already (though its not as if it takes much to create some myself either). Its that or just the usual "massive horde of zombies vs survivors". =P
...Uh, though I suppose first I have to finish some terrain other than shacks.

Heh, yeah I feel the same way. The implication however is that the new license isn't anything to do with the other one they alluded to a while ago (which I assume is the D&D one, though they could just release that as in independent thing easily enough). There's probably information out there already on this subject, but ah, I'm not in the mood for trawling other forums or taking a ride over to Crooked Dice's offices to prod them about it (hmn, though then again my friend was looking to go on a trip up north this week...). So whatever it is it'll come out in due time. ...and well even when we do know all about it Crooked Dice'll still take a few months to polish up the book for release.
Oi and who's this updating my news threads with information? I thought that was my job to do that to you aye?

The first license isn't the fantasy system. That is something they are writing for Otherworld miniatures. From all the hints they are dropping about the first, as yet unannounced, license it is looking like it's Danger 5 ( http://www.sbs.com.au/danger5/videos.html).
They have also mentioned recently that they are finishing the layout for their Robin Hood/celtic legends expansion for 7th Voyage too

I thought there was both a D&D style expansion as well as an independent fantasy one? The 7th Voyage one was unknown to me (though come to mind don't they have a pirate one in the works too?). Damn, how many supplements are they working on right now? Hmn, I should run them off...
Otherworld
Fantasy supplement for 7Tv
Pirates for 7th Voyage
Celts/Robin Hood for 7th Voyage
8Tv
Licensed products
(hmn, I feel as though there should be a 7ombieTv one in here somewhere too, but maybe that's just me misremembering).
So I'm making that six or seven. Wowzers.
Danger 5 looks like it'll be fun. If it can be camp and self mocking enough it aught to be a good show. Easy enough to make minis for as well (cut the head off a SS trooper and glue on a dinosaur's, Job's a good un).

The Pirates one (7 Seas) is a fan written one that they like so much they did mention neatening up the document and selling downloads of it. Not sure it is planned for print though.
I've not heard of a 7TV fantasy book, but they have been talking about a book that covers Magic and the supernatural in general called Tales of the Unexplained
