At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

I don't think they'll be doing a lot of US cartoon stuff any time soon. I think the Ghostbusters are the exception to this mostly British adventure.

Yep, so far it's all 70's (or 70s inspired) British TV and film that is being emulated, with the ghostbusters and Grandville figures as some fun figures that they have licensed from the sculptors. From the rumblings there are a few more Ghostbusters related figures in the works being cleaned up.

The only other exception is this mystery official license that still hasn't officially been announced that, if hints are correct, involves 5 dangerous individuals from Oz

Brit shows I have seen since I was a kid
Fireball XL-5
Stingray
Thunderbirds
Captain Scarlet
Dr. Who
Blakes' 7
The Prisoner
Black Adder
Monty Python's Flying Circus
Are you being served?
Fawlty Towers
Space 1999
UFO
Various other sci-fi and comedies maybe a drama or two. So the game system has some appeal for me.

A halloween (PDF only) special has just been announced for 7th Voyage, covering Gothic horror and folklore. It covers witch hunters, stock monsters, headless horsemen and lots more!

Last weekend they also previewed some of their new models at a show, including the secret license. Apparently the license will be officially announced at the end of this week, though every hint so far is Danger 5. They are also working on a 2nd edition ruleset... make of that what you will.

Bah, a second edition already?

Also, want that Halloween expansion, though I fear I may also be needing the core rules for 7th Voyage.

The rulebook I have is from 2011 and it was out for a while before I got mine, so they are doing better than GW. There was talk last year about some of the potential plans for 2nd edition.

Mostly it was clearing things up and consolidating the core rules into one small Action:Engine book so they don't need to republish the core rules each time they want to do a new setting. Splitting the setting and core rules also means they could update the rules without invalidating any of the setting books.

Who knows what they actually have planned, but either way it should be interesting

+1 to this! The great thing is that GI Joe was released in the UK under the Action Force brand, an offshoot of Action Man. The Action Force line also had a bunch of very cool unique figures and characters. I'd love some Z Force troops and some Red Shadows and Cobra Troops.

I couldn't find any mention of this on the site or in their store. Don't suppose you have a link? I tried to get on the forum but you have to be registered to view it, and registration is currently disabled...

Send Uti Long Smile a PM on Lead Adventure, or just use the contact information on their main site if you want access to their forums. I know its an obtuse way of doing it, but they removed the registration feature due to having too many bots.

Tomorrow is also release day for the new Department X starter set and (hopefully) the new license set as they have all the lead and paperwork with them now.

Don't use the homepage link to the new book as it seems to be broken. Go to the New Releases section instead.

So far it's a great read. The selection of new stars, co-stars, villains, extras and location effects is fantastic... especially with the new addition of Production Crew.

For example, the Makeup Artists (25 ratings). When activated, grants D3 audience appreciation tokens for the stars/co-stars. Production crew are off-table, so cannot be activated by any abilities.

Not on the webstore yet, but Crooked Dice were selling these at the latest show. I will point out that they're short of a second rifle armed commando in this line up. I'm assuming he's still included in the set however.

Once and Future is also available on the webstore in book format for those who want that rather than the .Pdf (I.e. moi).

Eugh, I'm a little hacked off that nobody at my club mentioned that there was a show going on in Scotland this year, even if it was on the other side of the country.

Is it just me or is the "Specials" section gone from their webstore?

Oh, this month's newsletter is an interesting one as it goes into a bit more detail on the new edition next year.

Crooked Dice wrote:
But why change?
Simply, we think it can be better. We started from the ground up looking at what we wanted the system to be. But most importantly we looked at why folks weren't playing. We think it's a great game, but if there are barriers to people picking up the rules and playing, then we wanted to remove them. So we've been gathering feedback on: what players struggle with; ideas on how to make the game more accessible and exciting; and what mechanics and accessories are a little clunky and need fine tuning. We've simplified rules for lots of things: there's less numbers to add up when you are building a cast; less tokens required; and less chance of players 'min'max'-ing the system. It's shaped up into a cracking set of rules. Don't worry, it's still clearly recognisable as the Action Engine. But as you play there are a richer range of choices to make, and tactics for players to use

So what's different?
We will be providing more details over the coming months, but here's a highlight of some of the features:
- All models profiles now on double sided cards with everything you need to play: stats, attacks, special effects all in one place. See some prototypes above.
- All Archetypes and Extras are bought 'off the peg', although you will still be able to be modify to build your own heroes and villains
- New 'Genres' which will tie your Extras into the Archetypes you choose for your cast
- New combat mechanic combining rolling to hit and damage into a single simple "strike roll"
- Resource management combining activation and audience appreciation counters
- Even during your opponents turn you are making important tactical decisions
- New countdown mechanic to determine when an episode will end and trigger the action
- Unit activations with the Unit Leader special effect
- Free PDF with the core rules and cards. That's a free version of 2nd Edition. Free.

They are looking for playtesters to help beat the new rules into submission. Details are in the newsletter

Will be interesting to see, especially how much the character creation segment will be changed, as that's the aspect I loved the most, not being a fan of using the premade characters myself.

Ack, so a load of books, tokens and cards to sideline. Fun. Ok they'll probably still see some use I bet, but damn my pocket winces at this.

Not sure about combining the roll to hit and to wound, but I'd have to see how that turns out. Also the use of cards rather than a roster sheet might impede players somewhat from writing up lists on the fly, but I assume that they have a solution for that. As for the rest we'll have to see what happens.

Hmn, now I wonder how sales of that new 7th Voyage expansion will fair given that people know a new edition is on the distant horizon. Probably to no ill effect I imagine. Hmn, was this new edition supposed to roll the various expansions all into one? I remember reading that somewhere. It would certainly be nice if that was the case, as (depending on how drastic the rules changes are) it'd mean not having to mess about adapting the main expansion rules to the new system. Not that I won't sit there and spend my time twisting the rules for a more post-apocalyptic flavour. =P

The main characters are still customisable with character creation rules, it's just the henchmen that will be off the shelf... but by that I would guess they just mean they will provide cards with one of each of the option combos currently available? Looking at the url=http://s274.photobucket.com/user/pez47/media/Crooked%20Dice/2E/CardPreview_zps3ff3f51d.jpg.html]preview images[/url] of the it looks like they may be providing the base stats for all the archetypes on cards, rather than in the books. As they have mentioned that Stars/Villains and Co-stars are still customisable, I would imagine the back of the cards detail what extras you can get. Selling packs of cards like this would be a neat way of providing stats as we currently have to trawl through lots of different books to find that one elusive co-star to use.

I've applied for the beta, so we shall see what comes of it.

[update]Karl has confirmed that the cards in that image are for when you buy the archetype "off the shelf", but that custom characters will still be possible as that is one of his favourite parts of the game. They just aren't sure what the final form of that will be. It may remain in the rulebook[/update]

Your pocket winces at free rules?
Apparently the V1 books and settings should be compatible with the v2 rules though. they will also still be providing the complete v1 books in pdf format for those that don't want to switch.

No idea. They did mention that concept a while back, but I'm not sure if it is still the plan. It may explain why the v2 rules will be free, so they can sell setting books without having to worry about the main rules... but we will need to wait and see

Well because its Christmas, Crooked Dice has put together a little set of character profiles and cards (nae scenarios unfortunately) for the Once and Future expansion based on The Holy Grail. Neat, and surprisingly well done considering how small a thing it is.

Two new PDFs today (well.. one is up already, the other is currently erroring)

As heads of our Global Multinational, we love to get other people to do all the hard work for us, so when we received the offer of two entire publications we could upload, we jumped at it. Then pushed the authors into the shark pool. Mike Jackson (RIP) has written the Agents of ACE Programme Guide for his own cast, and very nice it looks too – and it’s free to download. Meanwhile head off to the Barbary Coast for some swashbuckling pirate action with the Beyond the 7 Seas supplement for 7th Voyage, written by Paul O’Sullivan (RIP). Cheers guys!

The Seven Seas book is over 90 pages long and seems to include huge quantities of new stuff, including rules for pirate ships, new equipment, new cast members, magic, gaining notoriety, 6 setting guides and more events! Not bad for the £12 asking price
