Not that I know of, but touching them gives you a vision of the way they died. I'd advise not killing them or touching them. I have a feeling there needs to be some condition that needs to be filled to get them back into their places in the field.

No. If I interpret what Verviedi said correctly, they're ghosts.

I think it's rather clear that they're dead. The last time I got stuck in the guilt room, they didn't move at all, though. I wonder what triggered them?

I have a hypothesis that they are representations of sentients that anyone who has ever been in the tank killed. There are a few that were Guardsmen TNB railgunned, I saw a Farseer that I servitorized, and a couple Mail Inquisition officers.

Earlier, I made a teleporter. It was special because, unlike most teleporters, it does not simply kill you and then make an exact copy at the other end.
I used it to go to a new planet.
Turns out, it also sent me back in time. It's a time machine too.
There were lots of angry locals. Bipeds, I think.
So I made an army of Cubes, and zapped them all to death. Then I teleported back here.

There's a room in the Butter tank where you can see faceless people if you feel remotely guilty about having killed them. The tau cannot see them, neither can I.
Not sure it's for the same reason.

BUt only if aimed at the others of the room, anything else they fire normally
