The idea for this thread came to me in one of Jy2's battle report thread, when we got off topic and began discussing names. And I thought I wonder what the story is behind people's internet tags.

I'll get things started with mine, which is a rather dull and boring anecdote. But we have to start somewhere.

Eldercaveman came about when I first joined xbox live, way back when. And at the time I had the nick name of Caveman. This was taken, and so were all sorts of variations of ChristianCaveman, christhecaveman etc.

In the end I got fed up trying to find a free one, and went with one of Microsofts suggested tags, of Eldercaveman. Since then I have stock with it on all the internet. Mostly so I can remember my passwords and usernames.

Everquest had a filtering system in 1999 that wouldn't allow me to pick DaIncredibleHalk as a character name for my Troll. Ooze was similarly rejected, so Ouze it was.

Norse Mythology. Fafnir was a dragon who was slain by Sigurd. Just seemed like a name to pick way back when.

"Seaward" may be a homophone of "C-Word." "C-Word" may be the kind of callsign you get for using that language in a hilarious (in hindsight) and memorable way around people who have the power to determine callsigns.

I was at Uni and I read an wry right wing article that suggested that students in the sixties were peaceniks and beatniks, but students today (this was in 2000) were Jihadniks, and I thought, screw that guy, I'm taking that word back...on the internet...

Old online rpg character, Aduro Terrarum, which is rough Latin for To Set Fire To a The World. Just used Aduro for awhile as an alias, but the single Latin word made it less unique, so I added in the last initial.

Blacksails is the name of an old A.F.I. album, Black Sails in the Sunset.

That and makes me sound like badass pirate. Or something.

Leigen was the name of my character on the play-by-post RPG Alleria.com (which I have long abandoned because it reached the point where nobody was allowed to have fun anymore).

_Zero comes from the fact that when I went to register a hotmail address, 'leigen@' was already taken...

That was when I was 13, but I have that handle on so many forums that I just can't be bothered to change my handle anymore...

Oddly enough, there is a 26 page thread on this very subject in this very subforum. Right here, in fact!

Kronk is a name a girlfriend in college coined. "That was some Kronking!"

(actually, it was the name of my first D&D character. Halforc Barbarian...)
