I'm really not sure what to think of this. I want to like it because it's sorta cool in an Orky way but I would really fear trying to tool down the freeway on one. 80mph over poorly maintained Interstates would definitely be "brown trousers time".

Jeff Perez wrote:RYNO Motorcycles: changing the game one wheel at a time

Anyone who rides a motorcycle will tell you that there’s nothing like the thrill of riding headlong on the open road with the wind in your face and worries at your back. A motorcycle is truly one of man’s best friends. But what if someone changed the formula — a formula, mind you, that’s been relatively unchanged for a over a hundred years.

Chris Hoffmann may just be that man, and his one-wheeled RYNO motorcycle may be the next great invention in the motorcycle world.

But what exactly is a RYNO? First off, it’s a prototype– one that’s been in construction for nearly seven years already. Additionally, it’s a single-wheeled, zero-emissions motorcycle, that uses similar — albeit more advanced — technology to the Segway.

How did Hoffmann’s idea come about? Well it all started with inspiration from his young daughter, he stated in a recent interview with Gregg Rosenzweig of Yellow Pages:

“My 13-year-old daughter saw a one-wheeled motorcycle in a video game seven years ago. She asked me if I could build one…I started playing around with designs and seven years later, here we are.”

Right now this new technology is still in the prototype stages, but when the RYNO takes to production — hopefully sometime this year — it will cost $5,295 from its production facility outside of Portland, Oregon. Hoffmann and his team are also in the process of setting up dealers nationwide so that potential customers can come in and try them out for themselves.

For getting around a city I imagine it is nice, but for the same price you can get a really nice scooter as well. I like it, but I wouldn't buy it.

Is that comfortable? The way he's holding his back looks like it'd start to be a nuisance after riding for a while.

This. How is this a good idea at all? Just because something CAN be done does not mean it SHOULD.

I think it's pretty cool for tooling around small areas- obviously not highway driving.

I assume the front bar is the "kickstand". You lean it down forwards.

Personally though I prefer the new Kawasaki concept model. Changes between two different modes, depending on whether you are racing along the highway, or riding slowly in the town.

As an avid motorcyclist, think this kind of thing is awesome. Although, as far as 'new developments' go I would settle for mandatory reaction tests for the over 70, and IQ tests for that matter for anyone getting behind the wheel.

Runnin up on ya.

top speed, 10 mph.....yeah, pass.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

As a motorcyclist, that thing looks unbelievably dangerous and you'd be a fool to ride one in any kind of traffic or at any kind of speed to make riding it even worthwhile. The idea itself I think is kind of cool but technology is just not good enough for this yet.

That Kawasaki concept in Pacific's post looks incredible though! Want.
