Space Marines have barely been worked on aside from the initial release, and Codex Inquisition is a mess. I've tried getting on their site and it won't let me register and no one replies to any emails. Anyone have any ideas what is going on????

volunteers doing the AB lists + much faster GW release schedule + more expensive codexes + crappy economy meaning people need to work harder at their real jobs = stuff does't get updated as fast as folk would like

Yeah, I have no idea what's going on there. I had the urge to tinker with a farsight enclave list a couple days ago and was surprised to find that it's not there despite being released in October. I suggest trying battlescribe instead.

What file version do you have? Codex: Farsight Enclaves is in the current version of the files.

I wrote a list building tool for iOS recently. There are only a few templates available so far, but Tau and Farsight Enclaves are done. The app is called Warforge. I started a thread in the news and rumors forum:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/576793.page

Links to a google drive with the army templates are in that thread.

No. You pay for the Army Builder software. Unless you're throwing donations at the AB40K team, you aren't paying a cent for the actual datafiles.

I'll accept that. I pay for the license yes. I guess I don't pay to expect updates. Fair enough. Still garbage. Lol!

You pay for the Army Builder software to automatically grab new updates, none of that money goes to the people who actually make the datafiles.

Yep. Got it. I've been using www.epicroster.com lately. Faster updates.

I'd settle for the expansion books, as I'm going for Wall of Martyrs. I can't seem to find them on the usual lists.

But, since the mad rush to get out 6th-ed codices, I can't blame the AB list-coders to get a bit behind.

I like the interface of Army Builder better.

I have to admit, I've been slowly warming up to Battlescribe over Army Builder. I've used Army Builder for probably two years now, but I don't think I'm going to renew my subscription anymore. I mean, so far, Battlescribe allows actual rules in the descriptions of wargear (rather than "see codex"), it actually has updated data files so you aren't stuck waiting a month for an update, and I'm finding myself starting to prefer Battlescribe's simpler, less cluttered interface to Army Builder's.

I wholeheartedly recommend this app. Excellent replacement for armybuilder, and produces informative and easy to read army lists.

Read this if you need some convincing.

If Battlescribe had some better output templates to make it output PDF in much the same layout format as Army Builder then I would switch to it wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, for the time being, I don't like the Battlescribe outputs and I much prefer the Army Builder one so that is what I stick with whilst remaining patient for the data files.

Quartermaster looks nice enough but it is iOS. The only iOS device I have is my iPad and I don't particularly want to be formulating lists on my iPad and then sending them to dropbox or whatever so I can access them for printing - too much of a faff.

Downloaded and tried battlescribe last night. As someone who has used army builder for over a decade I like Battlescribe after fiddling with it. But a lot of it's files are just as off. I.e. None of the supplements (outside of Farsight) have been added and none of the dataslates that I could see. But outside of those two things and the fact I can't seem to set the automatic point value for when I start new lists I like it. It's actually faster to build things like platoons or complex squads than Army Builder.

The thing with Battlescribe is that you're not stuck with the official download.
Hunt around for those who make their own, and add them in, too. They're usually released quicker then the main updates, as people write what they want to use themselves.

I just love the fact that AB is a functionally useless product that wouldn't have any mass appeal if it was not for the free labor to actually produce the data files.

Yes, yes, yes I get the legal position - it just amuses the heck out of me that Lone Wolf makes a packet out of an essentially useless product whose success is 100% dependant of free labor. And here is the kicker --- they keep making it more expensive!!!

If the "regular" datafile builders suddenly went "sod this for a game of soldiers" the community would have a piece of useless software on its hands.

So, IMHO, other than LW sitting nice and pretty and getting rich, that makes everyone else from the customer to datfile compiler a bit of a mug really as AB is just a big scam. The fact that people EVEN have the sheer audacity to complain at slow releases of datafiles is a facepalming event of epic proportions.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

Actually a nice bit of software - could use some work on the output, but all the information is there, and it does what I need it to do.

While I agree with the overall sentiment, I doubt that the Lone Wolf folks are "getting rich" off of army builder. That said... I still use the 2.2c army builder I bought 15 years ago and haven't upgraded. One group of folks update the files (albeit a bit slower overall than the 3.x versions) and I appreciate their efforts for when I want a printed list. On my mobile devices when I make lists on the fly, I use battlescribe (paid version).
