I got back into 40k a year ago, just after the release of C: DA, and was generally impressed by the rate of codices being produced, and also the number and speed of FAQ releases to solve issues.
Whilst the Codices could have done with some better proofreading, at least FAQs were released to remedy any serious issues.

However, one year on, and the number of meaningful FAQs seems to have dried up.

Some big issues, for example Chaos Daemons chariot of tzeentch snap firing its weapons whilst moving, seem to have been totally ignored.

So the question for the discussion is, where did the FAQs go?

I'd wager it's part of their "Forging the Narrative" line of garbage that basically means "We don't care, talk to your opponent about it"

Well, they would make more gains if they FAQ'd useless units.

What kind of daemon player would use tzeentch chariots atm in a game you wanted to win? An FAQ could move more stock in this case as the units would become viable.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're delaying them so they can release them in Super-Duper-Limited-Edition-Digital-Format: For only £9.99 per army, you can have all your questions answered about our half-arsed attempts at writing rules! This is great news, as now it means we can afford some more champagne in our diamond towers, but you better act soon, once they're sold out, you'll never be able to have clear and concise rules again!!!111!!!

Ah, see, that's where you're gstting confused: If you want to win, you're playing the game wrong. It's all about 'Forging a Narrative'... You're supposed to be telling a co-operative story with toy soldiers, not playing a game.

This is their point of view. The gaming is secondary to the modeling.

Which if GW had a PR department or any sort of marketing/RnD they would realise that their game sells the models, not vice versa and better game=more people want to get into it which in turn=more people buying models and the game

Nope, if you take a quick peek at their faq page they are lacking ones for I believe the space marines dex and anything past that but if your counting faqs that answered any real questions and problems than anything from the daemons/tau dex forward are in need of faqs (tau bomber is still in need of bombs, tzeentch chariot is still in need of relentless on passenger or flamer moved to be apart of the vehicle etc.)

I'm guessing the idea is to try and move towards digital rulebooks that they can update on the fly, though that seems to leave people who don't have/can't afford/don't want an iPad out in the cold. Not like GW has ever decided on a business model before that would screw over some segment of the fans </sarcasm>.

Dont you love GWs business model? It makes so much sense doesn't it? Because making your market an elitist one when you had a very diverse and willing to pay community that has been wanting you to expand the markrt instead of thin it down for centuries is a great way to make money

Actually it is worse. Some of the "FAQS" on the list are completely empty, just empy place holders for a later date as far as I can tell. The Eldar FAQ has NOTHING in it, don't know if there are more like it or not.

I don't know why everyone is complaining. The FAQ page includes the Imperial Guard FAQ in Polish. What more do you really need?

Updated rules which solve errors of codices, rather than out dated ones in Polish?

Edit: Maybe the other guy was being sarcastic, hard to tell, could be a Polish IG player.

That was sarcasm.

An apologist would guffaw and ask "Why do you need an FAQ? It gives you the idea to roll a dice if you're confused. Isn't that much more readily convenient than having to wait weeks for an FAQ from another gaming company?"

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

There is an outside possibility that the FAQs will pick up again after the Christmas rush and white dwarf reboot have settled down. (ie in the next month or two). It is possible that they did not update them due to being "busy" with the lead up into dataslates, escalation, stronghold, Christmas and nids. Though considering the level of the escalation and nids books I am not sure how busy they really were. Must have used up all their energy with the stronghold assault which clarifies the building rules and the dataslates which had a number of new characters and rules.

Not sure how they would do any good in the FAQs though. With no play testing and no PR department their only source of fixing these things are the emails they get from us (aka internet using 40K players)...which if you have ever seen dakkadakka...is not always in agreement. \sarcasm

Hmm...

Never thought about it this way, but do we know, either specifically or in general, how large the GW writing team is? Four guys? Twenty guys?

It may simply be that the writing team has its hands full with whatever Codex is on deck, and simply don't have the traction to take on FAQs.

Just a thought, though.

Going by the previous 6th edition FAQs, they're not being written by someone in the studio anyway, since whoever wrote the rulebook FAQ has only a very loose grasp on the actual rules as presented in the book.

SO it's not a problem of the studio not having time. Maybe whichever janitor was doing them in their spare time was laid off as a part of GW's cost cutting?

GWAR isn't around for them to steal his YMDC threads anymore and they don't want to be associated with Adepticon's FAQs since they've increased support for *shudder* other games.

To be honest, their current policy on rules and balance has done a lot for me.

Not buying anymore orks and dropping my plans for a second army has really saved me a lot of money.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Cost cutting measures at GW.

Sales have been tanking because no is buying as many models. No one is buying as many models because the rules suck. The rules suck because why should they clarify the rules if no one is buying as many models.
