Got to peek at the new knight as it came off the fedex truck Hefty box for sure, it's growing on me already (but ouch 140.. battle.sisters gonna need a bake sale to get the requisition cost).

On the topic of height - GW has a pic w/ a marine for scale on the site. The marine is ~140 pixels tall (w/ base). Knight is ~620 w/ base. You get 4.36 "marines" high with those measurements. My caliper puts a marine w/ base in at 1.42 inches. So, we're looking at around 6.25" give or take a quarter due to any aspect differential in the image. it's also about 5.6" from toe to toe outer measurements.

Anyone hoping that maybe the Mechanicus knights would allow allying with CSM? Fluffwise, they could be "dark" Mechanicum, exchanging ancient tech?

Agreed, and it really makes you wonder just what the hell they've been thinking recently.

AAAAARRRGH!!!

Seriously, that's a bit of work you put in there H...and they are some specially fugly minis (IMHO, anyway.)

(Especially the SM stuff...really not to my taste.)

This Knight is a little bit of redemption for GW...and bring on the FW or indy conversion kits...

Mate, quite a few folk in the thread have commented on that, or of having Chaos Knights...

Being as it is an Apocalypse only unit (untill they FAQ the Lords of war for escalation) and in apocalypse you can take any unit unless it specifically says you cant. It pretty cut and dry. every one can use it lol

But it's not an Apoc unit or a Lord of War. It's kind've... nothing-y. We don't know how it works and what restrictions, if any, are placed on it outside of a small blurb within the rules article.

Can we expect a whole bunch of other models to accompany this guy in time? I mean the Imperial Knights now have their own faction section on the GW website. It would be rather odd having a whole faction that is strictly these guys (unless they have special ally rules that make them a sort of ally only faction).

Battletech by fasa 1984.....

1880 Jules Verne novel La Maison à vapeur (The Steam House) featured a steam-powered, piloted, mechanical elephant.
The first humanoid giant robot is Tetsujin 28-Go, introduced in 1956, but he was remote cntrolled.
The first occurrence of mecha being piloted by a user from within a cockpit was introduced in the manga and anime series Mazinger Z by Go Nagai, first published in 1972.

My guess is that they made a mistake or must have pulled the 8" measurement off of a much more flexible digital model, measured head to toe with the knight standing at attention and not with legs spread.

On another note anyone notice GW using the term Iron Brotherhood for their bundle of 5 Knights... Isn't their another miniature company that markets their own machine worshipped under that trade name?

My local private comic store (Private GW retailer) called GW while I was in the store and according to them it is going to be a regular 40k unit (not just escalation, apoc) and any army can take them as allies.

I don't know how reliable that is, but that is what the guy on the other end of the line said.

Hats off to GW, that is a fantastic kit that reminds me of all the reasons I fell in love with 40K back in second edition.

Really like it, but perhaps not at that price!

First occurrence of zombie that was hungry for the flesh of the living : Night of the living dead, 1968
First occurrence of zombie that was a result of “science” with no magic involved : Night of the living dead, 1968
First occurrence of zombie whose victims would raise again as zombie themselves : Night of the living dead, 1968
First sentence in this message to be even remotely related to the subject : none. But speaking about “first times”, Night of the Living Dead just beats almost everything else.

I was a bit surprised too considering the 6 Knight bundle is the cost of 5, so you essentially get a free one at that price. Not sure if the online retailers can offer those bundle sets, but at 20% off you would be getting another one free, so you could get 6 for the price of 4 if you can find them at 20% off somewhere. Still a ton of money, but if you got a few people together to pool funds you could load up on Knights at a decent discount.

Edit: Oops, looks like there is only 5 in the Iron brotherhood bundle. So no discount at all.

You just got my exalted!

As a Canadian, $170CAD is a bit much for my wallet, especially I'm on a GW diet. Even at 20% from FLAG I think it is a bit overpriced. For $136 I can get similiar Gundam models that are much bigger, better constructed, etc.

Back on topic, a lot of people who 'quit' buying GW, including myself, are really paying attention to this model, GW's financial turnover could largely be dependent on the Imperial Knights, if they priced it right, they can get a lot of the quitters back to buying, and once you start buying....

So far I'm not tempted yet, but I can see some 'quitters' the price might tip them back to buying.

It is a well known fact that GW rips off many themes for their units and calls them their own. A notable example is the chainsaw weapons, which were stolen directly from the video game, Gears of War.

I actually bought my first WdWeekly (digitally) to read about the model. I've essentially phased 40K out of life, not because of anything other than I was losing interest. And I still am, but the Knight release still has a phantom pull. It really is a gorgeous model. If it had a power fist and another option for the ranged weapon arm, I'd get it to squirrel away. Anyways, though, four bucks to see something cool was worth it.

The point...no surprise, but the design of the Knight was heavily overseen by Jes Goodwin. And like 96% of their kits he has a hand in, this turned out well. This may be the most impressive of them, balancing their recent desires for toy-sized monstrosities to take the field, while retaining the detail of the best 28mm figures on a 7-8 inch giant walking robot. Even better, it oozes the aesthetics that long time fans associate with the universe. A really, really exciting model.

I had hoped for a pilot model on the sprue, and maybe some interior details (because stuff like that is cool). Maybe FW will do it, or maybe there will be a second kit down the line.

Gorgeous model, though. All hail Jes.

It is interesting to note that if you look at the sprue on the GW site. The pilot hatch is a separate piece. A FEW cockpit will be a no brainer. If no When I pick one up I will make an interior myself though

So has it said in the WD whether or not this will be a supplement? or is THIS the supplement?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I was going to buy the WD and read it myself but it sounds like there is some ambiguity about them.

Like who they can ally with, what Force org slot they would take up, are they a lord or war, etc.

If I'm going to get goofy looks and rules lawyering when I plop an admittedly awesome Knight down on the table, I'll wait for some more concrete rules clarification.

I know - I don't get the extra packaging for 3 or 5 models with no discount. I mean, is GW worried that their customers are too lazy to add 5 to a cart rather than click the 'Iron Brotherhood'? Or maybe they're worried someone is too stupid to figure out the internets and how add more than 1 to their cart.

Well, the price was abit of a suprise (at first), but the wife caught me eyeballing it so I have a sneakimg suspicion I'll be getting one for my birthday. The fluff for my IG long had them originating from a knightworld, and finally I can (legally) complete the concept.
