Well I'm here and there's loads on as you would expect. I was late and here was still a queue but I used my prepaid ticket buff to jump the queue for the win!

There a seems to be a scrum on every stand, I've yet to lay my hands on a mini (except the excellent free show one).

It seems dark in here or more likely I'm just getting old.

Ah well time to hold my breath and dive into the FW stand!

Near the Forgeworld stand is a table selling second hand miniatures, complete necromunda gangs for fair prices. I got a mordheim gang for £20.

I've done a few hours and taken lots of photos but found it a lot to cope with and have spent rather a lot. As well as the Mordheim gang I bought a lot of Batman, had some cheap D&D books, resin bases and little things. My one surprise find was the limited Black Templar Emperors Champion, still packaged for £14. I love the pose and seeing as I missed out many years ago, jumped for it.

I got myself a load of Warzone stuff (The AvP stuff was really nice) and a few odds and ends including a plague ogre thing from (I think) Kromlech that will make a decent lord for my Death Guard with a little bit of work.

The sad thing is that the stuff I bought last year hasnt been completely assembled yet....

Did any one else think that it wasn't as busy this year?

Was a bit dark in there I thought...not sure about how busy it was...overall it seemed a little less busy, but seemed more of a scrum at the stands.

On the way back now....too much spent as expected, but did manage to avoid buying any more terrain.

And shout out to Kit from Zinge for remembering me from last year

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

Not long back from Salute '14 - although we did stop for dinner on the way home

Got their at 10am and joined the huge q-buster queue. Only in it for about 10 mins all told as it constantly moved - the Stormtroopers, Boba Fett, a Gamorrean Guard and Judge Dredd (2012 movie) kept the crowd amused with photo opportunities (I didn't get any though...)

As we walked in I get my free bag with programme, Salute mini and dice and surprised that they also gave both my kids a bag each!

First impression was how busy the place was, every stall seemed rammed, especially Hasslefree, Heresy, Black Scorpion, Zinge & Prodos. Forge World - I couldn't even see the stand there were sooo many punters - must have been 3 or 4 deep in places..

Really nice displays and demo games going on, I didn't get any pics though as batteries died after I'd been to Prodos for AvP.

Also resisted from spur of the moment spending, picked up my Basius basing plates from Zinge and a 'not' Dr Who - War Doctor (Doctor Payne) from Heresy. And that was my lot...

As for AvP

Back from Salute

Another huge success, in short quite impressed with:

- AVP minis, that plastic is durable and my concerns with the fragility of the tails etc are now put to rest good one Prodos
- Sedition wars new previews and lted resins some cracking new strain minis!
- Renedra new plastic sprues on the Shieldwolf Mountain orcs are very good and a good step in right direction in therms of plastic kits outside GW.
- Bushido, Eden, Freebooter Fate are some of the plenty small games growing stronger, very professional stuff overall.
- Mierce miniatures really delivered a strong punch on my wallet, we all know their minis have quality since the best sculptors in the industry work for them but theres something about having the miniatures in your hands and see the actual scale, detail etc to fully understand the quality. The minis are HUGE and so is the quality!
- More impressive demo tables this year.
- A big increase on MDF type terrain a bit everywhere.
- Hawk wargames minis stand and table simply memorable.

Interesting comment from FW guys when one of my buddies commented about WD fiasco, they were truly interested in asking what are the expectations regarding whitedwarf etc...

Good show as always!

My view - good show, abysmal queues to get in. Warlords need to grip this as at present their entry planning for the event is, frankly, nowhere near good enough relative to the numbers who go.

From a retailers perspective, definitely a significant improvement over previous years. I managed to get away from the stand for about 10 minutes so didn't see much of the rest of the show sadly.

Cons first [just in case you can't be bothered to read the rest of my post.]

Retailers really need to step it up in terms of discounts. At no point did I feel like I needed to buy anything on the day. The general consensus amongst my friends was that we would rather wait and get it online for cheaper. From what I could tell, some of the Weyland Games stuff was actually MORE expensive at Salute than it was online [e.g. Crusade of Fire - £10 online price, something like £20 at Salute - my mate was going to pick up a copy but unsurprisingly declined]. I had a fair amount of money to potentially spend but ended up buying a FW T-Shirt, a round dice, and some paint. Total spend £24.50. Another friend was flirting with getting a KR bag but with no discounts, it just wasn't worth the hassle to carry it around/home.

Forge World seriously needed to have a queue, it was just a scrum. I saw a few people give up, and selection of who to serve next seemed to be at random.

Pros

Loved the sense of community. Pretty amazing to see so many people into different aspects of the hobby.

Had a lot of fun on the Dusk Tactics demo board [90% convinced to take up Dusk Tactics].

Radio controlled tanks - ah yeah!

The Hawk stand also had some display pieces of either 3-up or possibly 28mm (didn't see which) versions of some of their ships...and those were lovely.

Clockwork Goblin:

They also had 28mm versions of that walker which looked very nice.

Plenty more that I didn't get pics of...none of the Mierce stuff for instance

Overall, a fun and epensive day. Interesting to see what's coming out of the lesser known companies, and the opportunity to hold and examine new sculpts is always welcome. I don't game anymore so the demo games are more of a look at terrain and layouts for me, but again, it's always good to see new options and for peeps to try out other systems. As alredy mentioned by myself and others, I found the hall a bit dark, and although the event seemed less crowded, the stalls seemed to be more so. no idea who won anything in the painting comp, but at least this year we got around to checking it out before it was packed up

They do have new resistance models on display. I have not seen any pics on dakka of them, but they can be found on the official forums.

Edit:

Also Simon confirmed that Hawk Wargames is teaming up with Andy Chambers to create a space-ship combat game. Excited!

Interesting that you mention lack of discounts and then touch on Crusade of Fire. If your friend had checked the website he would have seen that it was our Deal of the Day on the website for the weekend. Its one product that would be a different price out of about 7000 different products we selected to take to the show. You might also have noticed the promotions mention in this thread and there were others on the day including the Warmachine and Hordes offers. That was just Wayland, lots of others stores had special deals and offers. However, Salute is expensive for companies to attend, not just that they have to pay for trader space but the amount of effort required for even a small stand is a lot. If the traders then started to suicide discount to the point that they didn't make a profit from the show, then next year they wouldn't attend and visitors would complain that traders didn't bother attending.

In the brief moments I had to wander around, I though the trade stands and demo games were all busy and the public seemed happy at the show.

It's Wayland not Weyland btw.

Now that's a smackdown!
Real shame I couldn't make it this year (on a family holiday in Poland) but my mates had a fab time. I know I always find a deal or 2 & if you stick around til the end, some traders run after you to try to sell remaining stock & do offer silly discounts.
Never had a bad day there (my wallet does) even though I suffer from depression & chronic pain.

I thought there were some great deals on yesterday tbh - I got 2 mdf paint racks from Troll Trader for £5 each (rude not to at that price), 25% off a big box of 4 ground mdf buildings, a freebie figure from West Wind on a buy 4 get a 5th free deal that I actually missed when picking my stuff and the lovely Wendy pointed out to me, 7 Vallejo's for £10 from Gateshead Gaming.

But a huge thing for me is meeting up with the dealers, sculptors, manufacturers etc in person and getting some interaction, so I'd rather pay full price to people like Etch Master and have them make money at the show so they come back with more cool stuff and give me great ideas. I could probably have got Anarchy Models' airbrush stencils cheaper (although they were already down from £9 to £8), but I got to chat to them and find out they do full day courses which is of great interest. Last year I talked to Zinge about doing 'idiot's kits' for their LED lighting rather than just components - this year they had some and cash left my wallet very quickly.

And sorry rich1231 - I have previously avoided Wayland at Salute as it looked stuffed to the gills with GW and FoW which didn't interest me - I took a look this year and only narrowly avoided buying some of the specialist paint kits by Studio 75 (the black and white kit) and Vallejo (the NMM kits) that you had - if you had Andrea's white kit I wouldn't have held out lol - when my wallet is feeling less hurt I'll check out the paints on your site - that sort of interesting niche product will draw my custom.

TLDR - cheap stuff is cool, interesting stuff keeps me coming back.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Firstly, wow what a day! Thoroughly enjoyed it, absolutely knackered afterwards from many hours driving (should have subwayed into central London!) but completely worth it. One thing is that from reading the show guide and pics on here there is a lot of stuff I missed! Prodos & AvP I couldn't get anywhere near enough to get photos unfortunately, a few other stands (and brilliant display tables) I completely missed! But, it is a great complaint to have, that there was simply too much to see.

Saxon wrote:Anything new from Perry, Victrix or Warlord?

Not sure about Perry or Victrix, although I think the latter had a nice new plastics range. Warlord had demo books out for a new Roman vs. Germanic Barbarian tribes supplement book for Hail Caesar (which looked almost ready for release) and an earlier draft of a Crusades-era book for Hail Caesar.

I took a few pics of some of their stuff, and the new Dad's Army miniatures, which were lovely. I'll post pics of some of the new Gates of Antares minis as well when I have some time.

Also, got star-struck in the presence of a few of the big names there! Rick Priestly (yes, he is surrounded by a nimbus of white light and floats 2" from the ground), Paul Sawyer, Warwick Kinrade, Mike McVey amongst others. Was great to see some of the industry greats!

Yes, I think that's a little bit of the 'modern era' thing to be honest. I managed to get a few show-only type minis, a few bargains from asking around (seriously, ask for a discount or deal, you would be amazed and most places will knock a few quid off), and stuff that I hadn't seen before. I did manage to get 20% off some Infinity stuff from Wayland though which was nice.

Their stand was amazing, I would say they probably put as much effort as anyone into the show. Tons of really enthusiastic staff, we couldn't get the starter set from anywhere at the end of the day, it seemed really popular. Yes I did get some pics of the new resistance range, will post some later on!
