You came into Warhammer 40k expecting there to be logic? It's a "science" fantasy epic. Logic is crying in a corner and sanity's unconsciousness on the floor from a hangover.
I understand that this is a space fantasy but there is usually something called "Suspension of Disbelief" for this sort of thing. I can believe that someone would actually use slaves instead of auto loaders to load a cannon aboard a ship. I can overlook dumb little things like how close space ships are in formation. But I, as a learned scientistic man, cannot swallow someone being able to survive going into the mantle. That's a loooong time of being exposed to a lot of pressure and heat.
@Icmiracle
I'm just gonna ignore the Primarchs and focus on the purdy Mk. 4 and Spartan Assault tanks kthnx.
You're making a massive mistake as well. Primarchs aren't human. It's no different than the "humans" mutants in Marvel or DC.
(It's not even just comic books, Primarchs are just the old heroes of our mythos like Beowulf and Hercules, taken up to eleven and gifted reality warping superpowers.)
And I don't care for those either but I understand what you are saying. I prefer stories of fallible Imperial Guardsmen taking on impossible odds and winning through sheer grit rather than some intrinsic magical powers. I think stories of ultra powerful men doing ultra powerful things are dull and predictable but that's just me.
@Star Trotter
I think there is some Hand Waving about causing stars to explode upsets the balance of the universe or something. Which is stupid in of itself but that's Ward for you. I understand your point, though. I guess I should stop thinking about the fluff to really enjoy it. Except for the Forge World books; those are awesome. Relatively speaking of course
However, I do think that eventually Angron will fall to the Orbital bombardment. If Primarchs can fall to blades they can fall to sustained explosions.
To be honest I prefer the story of the standard guardsman. Then again, I love the stories where they are fighting superior foes. CSM, Tyranids, Chaos Daemons, and Orks. Primarchs are the type of characters I enjoy if I turn my mind partially off
I prefer the stories where the odds of CSM vs Guardsmen is acknowledged as being equivalent to an epic lawnmower VS grass fight.
That said, eh, I have expressed myself on the topic and I do not see how to answer it seriously.

And that's why I play Imperial Guard and you play Chaos Space Marines.
Here is my question, though, to keep the topic. What sort of munitions and fleet size are we talking about?

Humorously enough I really don't mind the primarchs being demi-gods. Then again, I like the thought of an elite group of CSM leading around a bunch of foolish humans (be it traitor guard or cultists) and just forcing them around. A chaos Aspirant joins their ranks making it seem like he is inspiring them (instead it is to have more delicious meat shields)

Doesn't matter it has already been decided that Angron will simply wake up a few days later, get really mad (okay well even worse than before) and swim through space

The burning pits of Hades, also known as Sweden in summer
I really enjoy the image of a swarm of lesser cultists and a CSM champ leading them, sticking out of the sea like a massive swarm of fish following a shark.
I imagine after his space swim, he will hijack the biggest of the ships that fired on him, and ram the others with it and then arrange the wrecks into a massive middle finger aimed at Terra.

Except not, for Terra is protected by an enormous shield that takes up the entire galaxy - the inability to advance the plot.
Plot shields don't protect you from being cussed out. :p

The talk of demigods and shrugging off the impossible made me think of it. Given the fact this is a less than serious thread, I can't interject something also not serious?
Consider me and done then.
Angron punches the universe really hard altering reality and we're done here.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

From eldrad's perspective in the universe, the middle finger squad looks like the eldar symbol for "Eldrad's awesome!"

Ciaphas Cain looses too, sometime. For instance, when facing particularly incompetent guardsmen, he lost his calm once.

If only Angron had a gun to defend himself this tragedy would have been avoided....
In all seriousness If other primarchs can take plasmas to the face and shrug off titan stomps somehow I think mere orbital bombardments designed to crack a planet's crust would leave nothing more than a flesh wound.
Then again Horus got a pretty bad boo-boo from a rusty knife.

If your bombardment isn't doing the job, you clearly aren't hitting the planet hard enough.

What you do is you lock him in a reinforced room and force him to listen to boy bands for 24 hours. Then you launch him out of the airlock at the offending planet. Within 3 days, everyone on that world will die.
