The reason the Taurox has tracks is, the only race advanced enough to use wheels is orks. There is not a single vehicle kit in the entire 40k range with wheels except for ork kits. (SM bikes don't count).

The Tauros says hi!

So does the Malcado Infernus' fuel/ammo tank for the big gun!

Clearly, wheels are heretical...except for the Tauros.

Well sure, there are not any wheeled vehicles if you don't count the ones with wheels on them.

Based on the top hatch size , I'm guessing it has a slightly smaller footprint than the Chimera but is quite a bit taller.
God it's ugly. Lots of good proxies around though, so I perversely sort of hope it has decent rules.

What new version? It was a new kit for the same vehicle, with the same technical and aesthetic flaws as the previous kit.

it was a new set of turret options I believe. The only vehicles that have changed drastically from their forebearers i can think are Sentinels (a huge improvement), Rhinos (a size increase was warranted, plus it had a cleaner, more "modern sci fi" feel to it), landspeeders (no more flying couches? sure!), and land raiders (same notes as rhino)

I hope the truck thing is a mobile command vehicle, something that can buff nearby units or increase the range commands can be given (if that is even included in the new dex).

If that is the case I might pick one up, remove the tracks and replace it with a series of anti grav engines and stick it on a large skimmer base lol.

The tracks will then be used for either Rapier Destroyer mounts or Grot tanks

Angry mobs everywhere. A lot of people were hoping for mini Baneblades or something not-Guard in design.

Just making it a more functional design would have been nice - giving some more clearance between the track armour and the ground, for example.

They are gone on the website, some take this to be an ominous sign but i think its not a bad thing because that means that they might have a new kit coming and have cleared out the old ones (plus they looked terrible) Ive noticed that when some units have been taken out previously from guard they stuck around in the store for a while, like Schaeffer or Gaunt, incase people wanted to buy models without rules.

Or it could mean the end, you never know. Im banking on the fact that they are a "classic" that also has a big presence in the Death Korps and that british people like calvary. Also Im banking on it because im almost finished with my Cold One Praetorian Guard Rough Riders

Only the Tech-Adepts of the Forge World known only as Forge World are capable of producing such advanced things as wheels, of course. They're also the only source of Titans in the whole Imperium. Oddly, they also produce various xenos, heretics, and bio-Titans.

I wonder if the new IG kits will have wheeled conversion kits made by companies like chapterhouse.

Although tank treads make more sense for most vehicles, it would seem a mobile APC type vehicle that needs mobility would be better served by wheels (or at least not GOOFY tank treads)

I think FW should create some type of IG supply truck, similarly to how they created Arvus Lighter as a non-military transport.

I think people are forgetting a very valuable caveat about treads on tanks.

In order to have treads, you must also have wheels for the treads to function properly. Usually multiple wheels, including drive wheels, idler wheels, and main support wheels, just to name a few. Most tanks have at least eight wheels on each side of the vehicle, typically more.

Just thought I'd mention that. I'm waiting to see more on what's coming before I pass judgement.

At first, I thought the Tauros was.. in just a few word.. not really my cup-a-joe. However, as I look at it, it does kind of fit the design aesthetic of my Regiment (Vostroyan Firstborn) better than it does others (Cadian, or Catachan). It does have a distinctly Russian feel to it, and with some additional modifications I could make it looks downright passable as an armored vehicle perhaps. This assumes it has decent rules and I wouldn't rather just put another Chimera in the list instead.

We'll see. The actual miniatures look great, if not expensive. If they had a head option for giant furry hats, I'd probably pick a box up to make an officer or two out of, but sadly, they won't.

Oh Victorian Miniatures, or Madrobot miniatures, if you would only make a giant furry hat with respirator heads line a-la the Vostroyan Firstborn, I would be so happy, and would purchase multiple packs of said heads from you. C'est-la-vie.

Just my .02 cents. Take it easy everyone.

Since you can make a Command squad out of the new Stormtroopers box. Does that mean we will possibly have Stormtroopers as troops?

Interesting. I love the Russ in all of its goofiness and no one seems to complain too hard about it these days. Maybe the Taurox will become slowly accepted? Its starting to grow on me, personally. Still replacing the treads the trukk tires

Love the Russ! I just purchased 2 on ebay for 50USD. Old or new the Russ is a staple for the IG

The Russ has simplicity going for it at least, and I personally like it quite a bit...although Victoria Miniatures "Mathilda" is looking mighty fine.
The Taurox is just so damn busy. Maybe stripped down a bit (and, again, with tires) it could start to work. That means paying a tire tax for every model though, along with the work of converting.

Man, these models made me angry enough to stop lurking and write this rant about it. I'll still give the designers the benefit of the doubt and lean towards their managers having no artistic sense, but I am now fully convinced that the model design team as a whole doesn't know good design.

Here's why: the way I see it, a great draw of 40K is (was) the artistic consistency of forces, the continuity of fluff and the models' aesthetic for a given faction. And for the various Imperial factions, that aesthetic is, let's say, High Medieval. Hence when things like the over-decorated Dark Angels flyers came out, I thought they were silly, but not out of place. I'd never get anything like that, since I think a sci-fi/high medieval aesthetic is dumb, but whatever, that's why I don't play marines.

But the reason I played guard is that they were the one Imperial faction that stood out. Guard, in fluff, has always been "deciding the questions of the day by Blood and Iron", and their aesthetic shows that: utilitarian vehicles, silly interwar tanks, standardised infantry.

And what does IG get for an update? Landsknechts with guns and an overdecorated truck. Yes, I get that they're trying to make a product so detailed that it can be sold as luxury good, but heraldry and fleur-de-lis on everything is not the way to go.

on the forum. Obviously

Except the Stormtroopers are not part of the guard. They are part of the Schola, who tend to be on the garish and quasi-Baroque / Gothic side (see: Sisters of Battle, and to a lesser extent, Commissars)

Wait till actual guard units show up. Then you can complain

I've seen a couple of people on this thread saying that they are going to use the FW Tauros instead of the fuggly truck - don't know how this will work as the Tauros is a tiny buggy & wouldn't even fit 1 Ogryn in it let alone 10. Confused.com.

Again, we haven't seen anything that suggests that the Taurox is in any way associated with Ogryns, beyond people making the somewhat tenuous bovine link between the word 'taurox' and 'bullgryn' (easily one of the most ridiculous names GW has come up with to date).

There would seem to be little point in them having their own codex if they can't be taken as troops...
