@MagosBiff: As said elsewhere, I'm really sorry to hear that, and just hope the salvage work pays up! Don't worry about the comp, there's still be plenty more coming next once you are back on the saddle. @Red Harvest: I'm sure you'll find a way to get around such small nuisances as snow, ice and hail ! @ El-Torrminator: Great, will be waiting to see it then! Cheers.

And it smells too much to use indoors. So, it is back to the drawing board for now. 8 inches of snow total or added on to what you have? Is the city closed down like Washington was the other week? Come to Canada the snow stops NOBODY! To the garage you must go!!!!

Managed to make a start on my entry. I'm intending for this to be both a diorama as well as functional terrain. The elements are represented by Wood Elf Dryads (Earth and Wood) facing Tzeentch Flamers and a Herald (Fire and Metal). The base will be a section of woodland with a small stream running through. I'm also considering some of the terrain on the Daemon side to be dissolving where the flames have caught.
The Herald will be in the process of casting a Metal Magic spell, transmuting its immediate surroundings to gold. The Flamer at the top will be hunched menacingly over a very unfortunate Dryad.
I wont have much progress till next week though as I'm waiting on the Dryads to arrive so I can sort out the positioning. In the meantime I'll crack on with working out the base.

I got some work done today, nothing worth posting WIP pics for. Mostly fixing things, filling gaps, and staring at it waiting for ideas to come more pics should be up by the end of the weekend.
I must say though, I have learned a ton already from joining this comp.

Wait......does that count if we use models to represent an element?
Could totally throw some Stormvermin in Heavy Armour around that fire to represent metal if that is the case.....plus it's a Skaven camp anyways haha

As I said already, interesting approach, I'm looking forward to see how it develops.
I wouldn't forget, on the other hand, to still keep including the Elements on the base itself, terrain is key this time (Not meaning that you haven't, since water, earth and wood will have a "natural" appearance on the base given the theme, and fire and metal seem to be nicely included by the flames and gold coming from the Daemons)

Well, that'll give me at least one good reason to expect the end of the weekend then, I'm usually more fond of it beginning! Will be waiting for those pics

Of course you can, as inmygravenimage and zammerak put it, it is above all about interpretation.
Bear in mind only, though, that terrain is the key point in the Comp (So, an element represented in the terrain itself would overweight a movable/playable piece, and scratch building and creative use of materials will score more better than a bought kit.
I think you camp is coming along nicely, and a metal component can surely be added - you already mentioned a bridge over the stream, which I'd say would work out great - on that line.
But, as always, following your own mind, and coming up with something you like and adds to your tables comes first. That, and enjoying the build, of course.
Cheers.

hey mates.... good to see so many good entries so far....well....time for me to show my own stuff then, eh?...
the working title for my entry is "Grubz"...why?...well the theme is called elements ...so wood, water, fire, earth and metal have to be included for the terrain pieces...
funny fact is, there is a Chinese cooking school called five elements... ( http://chinesefood.about.com/library/weekly/aa041900a.htm) ... so...my idea was to include every one of the five elements in a two folded way...: first I will use the elements in a direct approach ...use wood and metal and so on to show constructions... and then in a more metaphysical way as this is going to be a grot barbeque grill snack bar based on the five elements cuisine ...kinda....
well...here are my first pics...:
complete with wok...
well....what do you think?
thanks for looking, yours truly vik

The boys at the local store want to do a 4x8 trench network table in the near future, using the same techniques I utilized here, with a good hot knife we could do it in an evening and get on with the fun part of the build.
Eventually there will be a couple of log reinforced trenches in front of the complex. I was originally going to do a firebase with antitank weapon emplacements and morters, I got pretty far but hit a wall with the fire part of the competition.

I have a fairly epic terrain piece idea that I have been wanting to do for some time that will incorporate all of the required elements. I want to make at least a section of, if not an entire tank manufactorum. Ruined of course.
