-Lobbas are now so cheap that it's silly.
-Bubblechukkas aren't actually that bad so long as you shoot them at the targets they were meant for (T3-T4 blobs). You'll get so many hits with a battery of them that something will die. They are just underwhelming compared to all the other options (kannons, lobbas, and kustom mega-kannon are more reliable and can engage a wider variety of targets; orks don't really need anti-gaunt weaponry.)
-Smasha guns are a trap unit, they literally have the same exact problem and point cost as 4th edition zzap guns had/have. Hilariously the WD mentions how good they are for killing AV10. Anything you'd want to shoot with smasha gun could be better dealt with by a kustom mega-kannon, or just by glancing/wounding it to death with the rest of your army (lootas, even big shootas vs av 10-11).
-Kustom mega-kannons are a solid unit. Cheap, S8 plasma cannon. Better S and AP than kannons and lobbas in exchange for a higher point cost. Simple, straight forward and reliable. You can even take an ammo grot for just 3 points to counteract any gets hot rolls.
-Traktor kannon....

Well, I like the look of the new Mek Guns, and the general idea of them, the pice is just so prohibitive to me.
In other games, I could get a full unit of the model in question for that price.
For example, I just purchased a box of plastic Soviet tank killers for 23 pounds for my LW FoW army, giving me a full unit of 5, but with GW, I need to spend much more than six times that to field a unit actually significantly cheaper points wise on the table, even though they fill the same role.
I know the Mek Guns are much more impressive as a miniature, but solely based on that, I might not even be able to justify buying one because of the price.

Sniper rifles could be the only problem with these big guns, as a pinning test at ld 5 will make them loose there shots for a turn of its the blast weapons or hitting on 6's with the others

Agree.
Bubblechukkas are mediocre horde killers, which orks don't need at all, since we also have tons of awesome horde killers (ever bombed foot guard with a burna bommer? ). And those don't see play either.
While the Smasha gun isn't strictly worse than the kannon (unlike the zzap gun), but it still costs +12 points, which isn't exactly awesome for the equivalent of S4 armorbane. In any case, it will always do worse than the kustom mega kannon, and kannons might just be able to outdo it in terms of efficiency. After all, a fully loaded unit of 5 guns, 5 ammo runts and 20 gretchin is just 135 points.
Traktor kannons are nice, however I'm wondering how to fit them in an take all commers list. I can't see them being useful against armies that don't have fliers or skimmers, which actually happens quite often in my environment. Still, a great gun to literally pluck a flying army out of the sky.
Thus the age of the loota ends, we've finally gotten good alternative vehicle killers.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

Indeed, for me, GW's prices are now firmly beyond the range were I am willing to buy the new kits, my money can simply be better spent on anything else. For example, buying a full battery of the new mek guns in Canada comes in at $275. For that price you can buy all of the ships in FFG's X-Wing series, get a dozen or more AAA games during a steam sale, see every film worth seeing in theater for a year, etc.
If meganobs are $60USD for 3 then I doubt I'll pick them up. If they are 5 for $60USD then I might pick up one box. Grudgingly.

For those of you (and myself!) who find the cost of the Big Gunz prohibitive (who wouldn't, that's ~$335 dollary-doos for a full battery), please refer to the spoilered image below.
This guy (I emphasise that these are -not mine-) made these three kannons out of a single trukk kit, some airhose nozzles from a hardware store, and some .22 shell casings. I don't particular see the shell casings as being essential, some basic tubing would probably work too.
He recommended to me that the combination of the above with some basic spark plugs would result in some fine looking Tractor Kannons (putting the plugs in place of the airhose nozzles).
Works out to be a damn sight cheaper than the kit, you should be able to get 3 done for about $5-$10 more than buying the big gun kit retail. Also, you shouldn't get into trouble for converting them, since they're predominantly a GW kit anyway.

With gun batteries now being able to have 5 guns apiece, and the zzap gun's cost lowered substantially, it might actually be worth it to stick a single zapp in any battery you want to use against vehicles for the auto-crew shaken result, on-hit.
It would basically take any shooty vehicle off the table for a turn, they wouldn't even be able to snapshot blast/template weapons. In effect, trade a bit of killing power to reduce your opponent's by even more. Russes, hammerheads, wave serpents, etc would all be neutered even if they didn't die that turn. Or abuse the new FoC and have a single zapp guns shooting at different vehicles. Just 23 points(?) to take a enemy vehicle out of action half the time might be worth it on its own regardless of it S roll that turn.

Even with 20 per cent off deals they are still quite pricey for what they are, ill probably get one and hope there's enough bits to kitbash others. I'm not interested in meganobs, and although I do want some flash gits they will really have to wait. The Naught is another matter, ill be making my own.

Both brilliant guns.
Jerseydevil did some nice scratch-builds that are also especially versatile thanks to the modularity. There's a better link of these showing the finished modular trio of shok, lobba and kannon, but I can't find it. I made a couple of these and was surprised how easy it was to make them look close to authentic.

Hmmm thinking about this little setup starting out:
morkanaught, kff, shooty things
5 kustom mega kannons, extra grots, ammo runts
big mek in mega armor, with what ever snazzy things he can get.
put the mek and gunz in front of the morkanaught, benefit from the invulnerable save, SnP, and a 2+ tank.
Oooh and i would probably wet my pants if that big mek could be nazdreg!!!

Or...you can drop the Morkanaught for a Big Mek w/ KFF (if still an option in new book) and use the extra points to bring in another 5-10 Kustom Mega Kannonz.

I like the idea of moar Lobbas
its still the best gun imo
though the kustom mega-kannon is great vs heavy infantry, i wont deny that, but it has a bit of a shorter range and it does have "Gets Hot"
The Traktor while being insane vs flyers and FMC, and even does well against skimmers, is more of a Meta choice
Kannonz are still underwhelming imo, though being able to field them in groups of 5 makes them a lot better I guess, but being AP 3 rules them out as an AT gun, and more of a Anti Infantry role, in which the lobbas are better

Kannonz are underwhelming until you realize that they're 18 points.
A strength 8 ap 3 shot with 4 wounds, toughness 7, and a 3+ save for 18 points? Yes please. That same gun is able to fire as a blast to thin out mid-level hordes?! Count me in!
They're not the best guns in the world, but they're cheap as absolute dirt for what they do and how tough they are.
