On a more serious note, I'm leaning towards Eldar or an Old One. If there was more fluff for him in 40k and that fluff indicated a great and ancient hatred for the Necrons, I'd be willing to bet my first born that Be'lakor is an Old One. Or a shadow of one.

Xenology says that only one Old One survived the Necrons' wrath in the war in heaven, only to be killed by Slaanesh and then torn apart to form the Umbra.

The time of the old ones ended long before Chaos took shape in any recognizable format.

So Be'Lakor has some very interesting fluff. The one thing I wonder is: Who was he as a mortal? His fluff says he has been here since the beginning of time, but he is a Daemon Prince, not a Greater Daemon, so he was mortal at some point. Was he a random xenos race, or something else? I'd like to hear everybody's theories.

Be'Lakor possessed a man named Volkmar the Grim waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day. Here's a page on who he was as a human.

All that shows is that Bel is capable of possessing people. It still leaves the original question,"Who was Be'lakor before he became a daemon prince?", unanswered.

Considering Uraka Az'baramael is alluded to be Genghis Khan, it's unlikely that Be'lakor is Hitler; since Genghis Khan existed long before Hitler and thus Uraka would have ascended to Daemonhood first.

A theory I heard from someone was that he might be Cain from the story of Cain and Abel. I'm not so sure about it, but it has some "cool factor" thematically.

What difference? The Liber Chaotica details the birth of Slaanesh in the fantasy universe and drops Eldar by name.

He didn't posses Volkmar, he resurrected him from the dead. It also didn't happen way back, it was very recent in the Fantasy Time line(so recent that it hasn't happened yet in 8th due to the rewind on Storm of Chaos).

I doubt very much that he was an old one. The old ones were primarily killed by the enslavers, not the necrons. But the presence of the enslavers in the warp does predate the Gods of Chaos. It is insinuated that some old ones may be alive, either in the Ghoul Stars, or in dimensions beyond, but they are certainly not playing around in the galaxy in a major way any longer, unless you subscribe to the old ones theory concerning the Tau.

Given the incredible age and power of the old ones, it seems unlikely that they would be seduced by Chaos. It seems most likely to me that he is an Eldar, as they long predate the existence of man, and the other two ancient races, Orks and Necrons, don't have any business with Chaos gods.

Nonsense. The Battle Company box is perfect for filling out your ranks of aspect warriors with a large contingent from the Screaming Baldies shrine.

...for real? That's actually really interesting. Can you give more details?

The Enslaver Plague was retconned in the new Necron codex.

The Necrons killed the Old Ones fair and square now.

No need for the old one's war effort to bite them in the ass, the Necrons just plain old outfought them now.
