So last night the Undertaker's historic streak ended at the hands of Brock Lesnar. Is it time to hang up the boots for the Undertaker? He doesn't seem to do much other than appear for Wrestlemania and eventually go off for months on the injured list.
Don't get me wrong, enjoy watching the Undertaker fight but think it's time for his goodbyes.

Yes, and it always surprises/sickens/saddens me how many people I know that do.

Wait, really? Wow. I guess it had to end sometime.
I don't really follow the professional wrestling storyline all that much but I enjoy watching a match every now and then. I was really hoping the Undertaker would do a big Rick Flair style "beat me so I can retire" angle. I hope it went down like that and not just a random gimmick thing.

They actually don't hide from that now or claim otherwise. I'm not into wrestling, but I figure it's much like reality TV shows. People watch it for the spectacle even if they know it's scripted and fake.

Not just physical, but punishingly so.
I am not a big wrestling fan, and I know that the outcomes and storylines are written out. But that doesn't mean the damage is fake. Those guys RUIN their bodies doing what they love. So while I may not be a fan, I don't deny or decry the passion and investment that the wrestlers put into their craft.

He's 49 and in pretty good shape for his age, to be honest. It's more the multiple surgeries that he's had in recent years as well as a (rumored) cancer scare recently that seems to be pushing him closer and closer to retirement. I mean, there have been plenty of old farts in the business. Look how long Ric Flair was around before he retired.
I think it is stupid to end the streak, it could have been a hallmark in WWE history but no, it was broken and by boring Brock Lesnar really? And the whole Corperate Kane and evil C.e.o couple is one of the worst angles i have seen in WWE
Some people are pretty freakishly resilient. Some pro-athletes play like lunatics and hardly miss a match. Mind you the more physically abnormal you are it seems the more common you are to injury, so for a guy of the Undertaker's size to have gone as long as he has is amazing.
That said, talking about winning streaks in a fictional sport is really weird. A bit like talking about the Harlem Globetrotters win-loss ratio.
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.

One of the sports news websites (Bleacher Report?) was having a live blog last night and talking about the heart earned win and how some guy really deserved it. They were covering it like a real news story, it felt weird...
I sort of gained a new respect for wrestling after seeing Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler as It showed a more darker and realistic side to a form of entrainment that I view as kind of trashy. That being said I loved wrestling from 10-12 but grew out of it after that, now a days I regained an
appreciation towards it as a celebration of trashy entertainment and am often more interested in the ridiculous gimmicks and story lines as well as the behind the scenes stuff (like what goes into making a wrestling show, the training/practice required, etc) than the actual wrestling itself.
How can you watch this without cracking a smile at the stupidity of it.

Too bad the Undertaker had to lose to a wrestler with such a lame persona. I really miss the wrestling of the 80's and 90's. (Not like there wasn't some really lame characters then, too.)

I have a feeling that this is the last time we'll see the Undertaker in the ring. The only time he would wrestle was to defend the streak at WrestleMania and, now that that's over, he can retire.

Yeah, but that's part of the Undertaker's gimmick is he is (was) undefeated like generally it's not the winning or losing that makes wrestling exciting but all the hype around it, the characters, the silly stories, gimmicks, etc imo.

People watch fictional movies yet they still know it's (mostly) fake.
Movies are fake? What about all the zombies wandering the streets downtown?

Exactly. I've gotten a group of friends together a couple times to all watch Wrestlemania, and it's honestly always a good time. We know it's fake...but it's Entertainment. There's just so much fanfare and fluff, and that's what makes it so amusing. The past couple years, Undertaker has gotten close to losing his streak, but he always came back. You knew he would come out strong, then start to get pummeled, but right before he gets pinned, there's his well-know "revival" and beats the gak out of his opponent...usually starting with his signature Choke Slam. It's just like watching any other TV show, but with real people.
Since I only have Netflix, I don't get to really watch Wrestling anymore...and I certainly miss it .

Forget him. Forget Hogan too. Here's the guy that made '80s wrestling great.
Randy and Gene were *gold* in those interviews.

Nope. 49 (born march 24th 1965). Fun fact: The only active wrestler over 50 in the current WWE roster is Billy Gunn.

IF this truly was his last match. Then I think it makes sense (if not, then I have no idea what to make of it all). It's the passing of the torch. Lesnar has badass credibility. He can be the big "thing" to conquer at Wrestlemania for a fair few years to come.
Lesnar is now the most badass guy in all of pro wrestling history, and it's not close. Any guy that beats Lesnar is beating a former NCAA Champion, a former UFC Heavyweight Champion, a former King of the Ring, a former Royal Rumble winner, a former three-time WWE Champion, and now the man that has beaten the Undertaker at Wrestlemania. Lesnar has the greatest resume of anyone currently in professional wrestling. If you put Daniel Bryan over Lesnar, instant top guy in all of wrestling, possibly even above Cena. If you put Lesnar over Bryan to get the belt off of him, no harm no foul. Bryan lost to the guy that beat Taker!
If that was his swansong, then so be it. Farewell to the only guy to successfully out-troll a WHAT chant? What a guy!

It's kind of unfortunate, assuming this was his farewell, that it was such a boring match. Even if I hated the outcome, the least they could have done was give us an entertaining match to end his run.

Go to their "Sports" section, there's a ton of Wrestling programs.
