I've never blocked anyone no matter how much I dislike them plus I can just skip over reading their posts if it's too much for me. Totally agree Dreadclaw69 that differing opinions allows for new ideas and makes you a better person as you actually might have to defend your opinions.

My ignore list remains empty, and I intend for it to continue that way.
As some have said; I may often dislike or disagree with what a particular poster says, but I don't want to miss it when they say something interesting or insightful.

I did try that, but when someone continually does the equivalent of arguing that black is white then it just becomes more tiresome than it is worth

This, except I have one person on my ignore list who I put there after he went straight for a tirade of ad hominem attacks because I disagreed with him in one of his first threads on the forum. Ignoring people because one disagees with them seems rather intellectually dishonest.

That was my original stance as well and I never put anyone on an ignore list for probably over a decade. There was an oxygen thief on here last year though that made me change my mind and I now put needlessly aggressive and/or useless posters on the ignore list just because its easier. Its rare and the poster in question needs to be a special little snowflake but it does happen. This is one case where expediency beats ideology.

I only have one person on my ignore list, and they're there because every time I've seen them post it's been puerile, mysognistic or just plain hateful, so I don't consider that I'll miss out on any decent debate with them. I tried to keep mine empty for as long as possible, as opposing opinions mean I have to examine my own and help me develop, but the guy made me walk away from my computer and made me genuinely angry with quite how transphobic his posts were (in the trans* athlete thread) so I consider having him on ignore the equivalent of losing the opportunity to debate with that pigeon that keeps making noises on the windowsill.
Even if I tend to disagree with them, I respect most of the more conservative posters on the forum because they (in general) know how to construct an argument and can back their positions up, even if maybe not to the point that I'd change my mind all the time. There does appear to be a few that are needlessly contrarian though, or who are unnecessarily rude in arguments.
Same with the more liberal or moderate posters; I respect those that can hold a coherent argument and are able to put their point across well. I'm the first to admit that my own bias means I will tend to agree with those posters more, so I try to work against that bias, but I still find myself agreeing with Sebster or Ahtman more than I agree with, say, Relapse or Whembly.
I tend to not involve myself in debates as much as I like, because as much as I like to think im a competent Internet DebaterĀ® I tend to fumble my points if I'm not talking in person, combined with there not seeming to be topics that I feel I can make a meaningful contribution to very often, so I generally stay fairly quiet.
Edit: wow. Wall-o-text-o.

I like the slow development of understanding between posters in OT. It tends to come and go in waves, with new people arriving and having old arguments and the long timers sort of stumbling in and out, progressively more impatient. But you see people mellow and start to see each other more as people and less as an opposing ideology as time goes on.
There's a few posters here who can reliably make my blood boil, generally because I can see that they are fairly intelligent people but their ideology is pretty far away from mine. What's good about Dakka though is interacting with said people in other ways- discussing hobbies in the other fora. For example, Djones50 is someone who I am sure I have insulted by being too blasƩ and provocative in some of my posts about the american military. Having interacted with him outside this arena and when not talking about politics in the same way but instead talking about Pathfinder, I've come to regret my rudeness and resolved to moderate myself a little better next time.
All of that said, there are times (usually when I'm pissed off about something else) where OT just makes me unreasonably annoyed, and I tend to back off then. I've only put 2 people on ignore, neither of whom post here any more. Both times it was because I found how they posted objectionable on all fora, not just OT. I try to avoid it where possible.

I seem to fly under many people's radars on the rest of the site I can't honestly remember having a disagreement with you, Cheesecat, but then most of the threads I argue in tend to be things that are fringe to my core beliefs(read: I'm bored, unemployed, and have a computer) and the thread itself has piqued my interest unless someone says something that I absolutely feel I must address. Most of those times I do honestly argue something that I feel strongly about, I won't be seen on Dakka a few days after as I feel I need to take a break from the board to calm down and resist the urge to comment again lest I get to the emotional point I attack the poster and not the argument. I tend to try to avoid topics that I feel strongly about(for my own stress), but I'll admit I've slipped up. So, saying I don't remember a disagreement isn't reflective of the other poster, more a reflection on the topic being something I don't care one way or the other enough on to remember. The only poster I can really remember having negative feelings then coming around to would probably be Kanluwen and that's all about how he used to argue things and came across more than anything about him as a person in general. He still slips into WRONGBADFUN mode sometimes, but it's way less these days.

There are a few whose opinions I find deplorable in various areas, but I haven't ignored anyone.
Some people I consider their posts to be utterly pointless to read (not naming any names frazzled), or their incredible love for Nazism whilst pretending they're the most anti nazi person ever (not naming any names inquisitorehrnstein)

I enjoy having arguments with quite a few of you, it's fun when you can have a back and forth of ideas as long as both sides can argue their points reasonably. Sometimes the back and forth of ideas and information is more important to me than "being right", especially when many of our topics here can have both sides be "right".

Also, there are people here that I rarely agree with, but won't ignore, because they're pretty articulate and even tempered with their posts. Even when they're wrong!
