Cackling Chaos Conscript

Hi there!
Inspired by all the great terrain builders here on dakka I decided to start working on some pieces of terrain myself. I did so before but only occasionally. Over the last decades I amassed a mixed stash of bits, materials and leftovers from other tabletop projects as well as from scale modelling. Therefore one of my goals is to build some terrain only with components already at hand and thus reducing my stash.
I plan to build several pieces that can be used to represent a farming colony on a fertile imperial agri world. Until now the following elements came to my mind:
- 1 or 2 big fully automated hydroponic green houses
- A few smaller green houses
- A barrack building for the human farmers
- A small radio and communication station
- A pumping station for water and nutrient solution
- Maybe some ordinary cornfields
I am open for additional suggestions and ideas.
At the beginning I would like to present my approach to the radio station. As imperial agri worlds are sparsely populated communication is very important. Any relevant farming colony operates at least one radio station to stay in contact with the authorities and to request convoys to collect the produced goods.
Two WIP's:

Nice work on the radio bunker - the little details give it a lot of character. I'm looking forward to seeing it painted.

Looking good so far. Some terrain idea suggestions:
-tree lined "country" road
-storage facility (like a grain silo, barn, or warehouse)

Storage facilities, of course! A must have in a farming colony. Thx!
Meanwhile I started painting the radio station in some shades of grey and applied the first decals to provide more detail.
I also started to clean the parts I want to use for a pumping station / water supply system. Unfortunately they feature an immense mismatch in mold which will take me some time to correct / hide.

A small update:
Some details are still missing but its coming closer to an end.
And here is something I made several years ago. Does not belong to the current set of terrain.

Nice terrain. Loving the radio bunker. If you have a DIY shop near it might be easier to buy some copper pipes for the pumping station.

Already thought about it. Would be a good thing to get rid of some vehicle bitz but for now I put the idea towards the end of the queue.

Maybe you are right but this would be against my self-imposed rule of building the terrain only with materials already in my stash I guess instead I will go for a massive green-stuff-job.
In the meantime I started to experiment with some green houses. For the beginning I try to build two small and simple ones without any automatic harvesters or similar gimmicks.

Hi Mate!
That radio station is looking really cool! And i really like the start you have made on the green houses!
Actually my favourite parts are those stensiled numbers on the side of the radio station.
Definetly keeping an eye on this!

Small update:
First green houses are almost completed. They just need some cleaning, varnish and little details added to the base. The next ones will be different due to the lessons I learned here.
My girlfriend wanted to participate in this project and thus she painted a selection of tasty mushrooms for me to fill one of the green houses. The second one will be empty and temporarily out of order. (Sorry for the reflections! I polished the domes but now they interfere with my photography skills )

I like how the radio station looks essentially like a concrete block with elementary controls on top. I was just thinking of an idea for you. What if you took some pictures of your materials stash and we could suggest terrain ideas based on what we see. Still totally up to you to accept or veto any idea. Just a thought.
The tiny "agridomes" look neat, but the vegetation looks a little sparse. That or the green house dome has been left to go fallow. Mushrooms are typically grown pretty dense and I would think a "crop" would look like a dome filled with tiny balloons.
The flock on your bases look great. Keep it up!

Nice suggestion Warboss but I think that I already have enough ideas to fill more than just one gaming table. Additionally, being completely honest now, I feel a little reluctant to empty nearly a dozen drawers and shelves just to take a picture

I agree. I will pay more attention to the vegetation once I start the "real" green houses. Apart from that what would you do if your girlfriend is sitting next to you at the bench and repeatedly asks (with that very special glance in her eyes) for:"I want mushrooms, I want mushrooms, I want mushrooms...."?

Small green houses completed. As one of them was empty anyway (and btw includes some flaws in the dome) I decided to partly cover it.
A little groupshot of the completed terrain so far.
Next I will start the pumping station.

After I had to spent a lot of time for my job I managed to get two weeks of vacation and I am thus continuing my projects.
Here are the first shots of the pumping station. Basic painting is done and now I am going to weather it and include some little details here and there such as barrels, warning signs, controls and whatever my bitzbox offers me.

Wow, I really really like your basing. It brings everything to life really, and then there's the little things. The fence around the pumping station is perfect, as are your decals and details you painted ^^
Can I ask what that second building is? The one you made several years ago? Have you made that from scratch?

You mean this one?
It is a kit made of laser-cut wood. I saw it online and wanted to test it. The assembly as well as painting was very easy and straigthforward. Automatically Appended Next Post: Finished the pumping station for now. Maybe I will add some more gimmicks in the future but first I will continue with some other stuff.

Really digging the terrain work. I didn't notice if you had mentioned it, but are the pumps and pipes from Hirst Arts molds?

No they aren't. They are from Itars Workshop:
http://www.itarsworkshop.com/
I once bought a set including a lot of single pipes and some pumps and containers. The pipes are ok but the rest features a significant mismatch in mold.
