I tried out a bunch in a land raider. They got out of the land raider, failed their charge, and then a single unit of orks shot them to death.
If you do use them, don't let them get shot up. They're literally just double priced chaos marines.

Im trying them out in allied crimson slaughter, and only for bigger games
Im planning to take 10 and stick them around a nurgle lord on a palanquin with prophet of the voices, slaughters horns, and daemonheart. The list is more about the lord, and to be honest (without testing) they're acting as a very expensive blob to help get the lord into the fight.

Ran 10 Nurgle possessed with kitted out crimson slaughter lord against a bunch of Iron Hands bikes a little while back.
Thy did pretty well for themselves once they got into combat, even after being shot up a bunch. Took out I believe 16 bikers. Trouble was the sarge died to a barrage blast so my lord was stuck in chump challenges, not shredding face like he should have been. I had them invisible for the first couple turns which helped them get into combat.
Nurgle was a helpful choice, especially vs bike bolters. That said I'm leaning to trying out a pack of Tzeentch marked possessed in a dreadclaw. Gets them line breaker and more importantly assault grenades.
The trouble is, for 200% the cost of a CSM you're only gaining a 5++, +1S, and a decent random ability, while LOSING a second weapon and grenades. Crimson slaughter helps them get to combat, but original possessed are more killy. In the dreadclaw will maybe try include sorc for buffing.

The Crimson slaughter rules make them much much MUCH better. They still aren't great. only 2 attacks a base and no grenades and die like any other chump marine.

How do you figure crimson slaughter makes them so much better?
Scoring and a little more survivability at the cost of killing power.

Possessed are horrible in every way possible. Losing a bolt pistol is even a huge drawback. There is no situation where I would rather have 1 possessed over 2 CSM.
No, Crimsom Slaughter also doesn't make them remotely viable. Random movement will always make a unit terrible.

I've run possessed in fun games. Regular possessed, not ctimson slaughter ones. They were accompanied by sorc that tried to roll invis or endurance depending on the enemy. Sometimes apostle joined them too. They were alwayz worse than regular marines. Even in fun games. Having bolter, nades, special weapons and rhino is way better than being daemons, even fearless, having +1 str and random cc killing stuff.

I agree, but the Crimson slaughter takes them from nonviable and not fun to nonviable and fun.

Exergy, my thoughts precisely.
When I said less killy, I meant it. Sure they have a 1/3 chance to get rending. But they lose the options of +1 A/I, and AP 3. That's a SERIOUS downgrade in anti-infantry damage potential, coupled with their lack of extra attacks and weapons.
