Three books: The Rules, A Galaxy of War, Dark Millenium.
65 Euro.

What's your plan?

I'll buy it and eventually sell the non-rule books at ebay.

Really, I'd love to buy the fluff and modeling books at my local store and then get the rules as iBooks. But I don't think I'll have that option.

If they're only available bundled, then I'll go iBooks. It's so much easier to carry one iPad than 1,000 pages of rules in four books.

Not buying it before having had an extensive look at it and having played a few games. Will then opt to buy the A5 rule book.

The rule book is 200 pages.

Has GW ever thought about a small set of core rules that allows beginners to enter the geme quickly?

I was referring to the rule book + codex + cities of death + escalation + battle missions + stronghold assault. Though I only have the BRB and codex out of all of those.

I think it's a great idea to split up the books, flipping through the book for that one rule is a pain when the book is so huge.

So, no matter what,, you're never actually carrying 1000 pages of rules, then? Especially since Cities of Death is waaaay out of date and Escalation/Stronghold might be covered in the new 200 page rulebook anyway? Good point though; we all appreciate that kind of helpful hyperbole.

I'm going to buy the iBooks version, though. I got the iBooks version of the IG codex and it is awesome. I think I'm completely hooked on them at this point.

Well its pretty cheap on an NZ webstore here, plus if I buy it I have 2 chances to win an imperial knight (ugly model but at least it may make the purchase cheaper), the rules dont seem that bad and for the first time in a long time I have seen a bit of improvement in the release.

So im tempted.

Conflicted here. I was going to wait for the small rules by themselves, but the fact that they are in a separate volume helps. My FLGS is also running a special deal, so I’m tempted just to grab the 3 book set.

Grrr. Can’t decide.

I would like to buy it, BUT not playing any games, and don't see anyone wanting to play in my area, do I really need this? After all I bought 6th just like everyone else on release day, and bought the iPad interactive version a few months ago and now it's all obsolete.

So I will not get it on release day. I will wait and see what everyone says if it's a must have or not. I just can't see myself spending another $100 for reading material when on the Golden Throne.

I'm a bit miffed about not getting to use my 6th edition book much, so my priority is to save money here.

My plan is to wait until the book has been out a while, then order it at 20% off at TheWarStore or CipherGames.

I'll have my FLGS order me one. They don't make me pay up front and if by some chance it's just too disgustingly awful to warrant a purchase I can just have them toss it back up on the shelf and sell it to someone else. Plastic wrapping may pose a slight problem with that though.

Im waiting for DV to get the new book in mini format or there to be a new box set.

I don't want a BRB and could flog the stuff from DV to keep costs down on a new book.

Made it all the way through 6th with a mini book, don't see any need for a BRB

1 guy's gonna buy the book pre-order. The extra books have got to be pretty cool and/or useful to make me want to buy it in a bundle.

If we buy into 7th, I'm gonna get the small rulebook from the boxset this time on ebay, assuming it has all the rules, because I ended up using my 6th Edition softback over the hardback basically always....coulda saved myself alot of money.

To not buy it. I'm waiting until they release a small rulebook like the Dark Vengeance one, or maybe just not getting it at all and relying on other people having it if I ever play 7th.

I want to buy another DV box set. Just love the minis. I think that is what I will do.

I'll probably just buy the rule set. The only fluff I'm interested in is in my codex. No time to hear about fruity space elves prancing around the rainbow.

Wife won't let me get the $400 edition. :(

Anyone else in the same boat?

I am so glad not to live in a world where the wife can dictate my spending. Stand up for yourself Make it the other way around, make her ask if she can buy stuff instead.

In all seriousness she is right. Waste of money dude. I do think you should be able to buy it if you want though. I run the finance in my house and id never say no to something unless it was stupid. Like buying the limited edition book of an already limited edition book. Assuming thats what you are talking about haha.

Thats my opinion. Stick to the rule book from a non GW site.

The only way I'd consider buying the new edition is if its in a starter box. If they just repackage DV, I'd be irritated, but I'd consider it because chaos and DA are two of the three 40k armies I play..

and they were some damn fine models.

Agreed. If there was a $400 limited edition ruleset 2 years ago, I'm sure those buyers are a bit peeved right now.

You may end up feeling the same way in 2 years...

But collecting nice books is cool, and to each his own.

After checking it out, its one of the better limited sets they have released.

Usually its double the price for a fancy cover. This time its triple (ish) the price but it actually has useful things in there. Even has the mini rulebook.

Better, but still not worth the risk in my opinion.

It would have to tickle my gibbon and massage my runderfeld for $400!

But I'm not into splurging on fancy limited edition items so much. My buddy got the limited edition Apocalypse set, and it seemed pretty cool.

Is it a certainty that Dark Vengeance will continue to be sold, but with the new rules?

No it's not. Who knows, it may just come back and say use the FAQ for all we know. We are only guessing right now what is happening with the DV box set.

On Games-Workshop site, DV says it has the old rules (6th ed). So until that changes, DV won't give you 7th ed.
