Ive just finished my tyranid army and im looking to start a new one. I was just wondering what would you say is the most viable and fun assault army to field?
Im talking mainly about fast attack and jump pack troops since i love them.
Thanks!
Blood Angels and Raven Guard for marines, the only other I can think of is a Swooping Hawk army, they look fun and can be made viable. Hell you can even ally them.
Their HQs can almost all take Jump Packs (or come with them), and they can take Assault Marines as Troops, meaning you could run
6 squads of Assault Marines
3 squads of Sanguinary Guard
3 squads of Vanguard Veterans
12 jump units, not including HQ. I don't think BA has any Jump Heavy Support.
If you are willing to take non-jump troops, Eldar can be good.
Swooping Hawks are one of the best Jump Infantry units in the game, plus Wraithknights are Jump MCs.
Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.
Gozer the Gozerian, Gozer the Destructor, Volguus Zildrohar, Gozer the Traveler, and Lord of the Sebouillia
Stormboyz. Make an entire army with them in unbound, get a Guard player to bring a bunch of Valkyries, house rule them to be able to assault flyers and reenact this scene from Space Marine.

Heresy Army. 20 man troop squads with melta bombs with attached apothecary(with captain stats). Jump packers in the Elite slot as well and the FA slots if you play Night Lords. Also can have Jump Pack master with his jump packed Command squad with artificer armor and any given CC weapon.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!
Thanks so much for your replys guys, i think the BA army looks to be the best one.
Two more questions, is 7th edition looking good for this idea or bad and can the San. Guard and Death company assault marines assault out of deep strike or is it only the vets? Ive heard mixed things
Thanks again guys!

Might be worth looking at.
I just feel it prudent to point out that both of these are not normally considered to be part of the normal 40k rules, and generally require permission from your opponent to play. I know a lot of people tend to be extremely wary about anything that comes from Forgeworld, and if I'm not mistaken, both of these rules (30k and the Corsairs army) are from their department.
My Armies:
Kal'reia Sept Tau - Farsight Sympathizers Da Great Looted Waaagh! The Court of the Wolf Lords
Very true, but corsairs are worse than eldar in terms of special rules and abilities. People would be more than happy to face it if they knew this to be the case. But just putting the option out there. 100% Jet infantry is a cool idea.
I am curious as to what kind of special rules BA will have in regards to their JP units? Until I see them I stand by Raven Guard as the best jump troops in the game. Yeah you may not be able to take them as troops outside of bringing Korvydae but their special rules, Winged Deliverance in particular, are nothing to scoff at. The ability to use the jp in the movement and assault phase is clutch, plus the ability to reroll failed HOW rolls is awesome. They put the hurt out big time, and these rules apply to any RG with a jp.

In 7th Ed then you could field an all JP army. All SM Vanguard Vets, or Swooping Hawks, or Gargoyles and Tyranid Shrikes, or Battlesuits.

Spoiler:
I need to find my copy of that and play it again, it was so much fun.
If you want an army that has lore for an all jump army Blood Angels are your best bet as people have said, they have some great options for jump units as well.

Blood for the bloo... wait no, I meant for Sanguinius!
If you are going vanilla then BA is the way to go.
Do note FW is generally accepted now without permission, even in tournies(at least the ones I used to go to), its just good courtesy to inform your opponent now and have the rules present. With the advent of superheavies in normal games and the new Unbound crap, I think people bitching about FW is rather silly these days.

Only the BA vanguard vets still have an assault from deep strike ability.
7th is looking like...things didn't really get better or worse for a jump pack BA army. Other than that many of the big gimmick lists are taking a hit in some way or another. The size of the hit is debatable.
For sanguinary guard, and ESPECIALLY for jp death company, they cost too much and there's still too much "I wound your dudes on 2's no armor no cover" available.
If I wanted a jump pack BA army that stood a good chance on the table, I'd go with full assault squads with a jump pack priest attached to every other one, and multiple vanguard vets units, minimum size with few options taken.
I'd look at Ravenguard, since if you're in a FW friendly environment, you can take Shadow Captain Khorvydae and make your Assault squads Troops. Then you aren't paying the inflated Blood Angel costs, and have access to all the nifty Codex SM toys, while being able to ally in some Blood Angels for Vanguard Vets that can assault as they Deep Strike, and Assault squads with meltaguns.
Swooping Hawks are Jump infantry, but nothing like Assault Marines. Corsairs are Jet not Jump. Neither really sound like what you're looking for.
If you want an Assault Marine army, that sounds like Blood Angels. If you want a combined arms army with an Assault Marine focus, that'd probably be Ravenguard.
I'd say save up and wait all the major assault armies are going to be updated in the next 6+ months. But my TLDR answer for you is BLOOD ANGELS
Tyrranids was an assault army but kinda got pushed more into shooting however they still have nice asault units.
Orks are next . They were a strong assault army but got pushed more into shooting. They do have more assault vehicles then most but they are similar to the swarm style of tyranids.
After that is rumoured blood angels if you can wait like 3 months, arguably the most asault oriented space marine army. But if vampyre space marines is not your style you can wait or begin collecting one of the other assaultish armies that are due although less confirmed.
The next rumoured codex is likely dark eldar, they are fast, have alot of assault vehicles, and poisen out the wahzoo and a few good assault units.
The final mainly assault army due is space wolves, a bit less assaulty then blood angels, but they do have thier dedicated units and little is known about what is comming. Although id like to joke and think a giant MC sized wolf is coming.
Personally my IG army is done. So i want to build a more assault type army and something that matches well in fights vs my IG. I kinda wanted to do tyrranids as the aesthic pleases me but i wasnt horribly impressed with thier rules or playstyle this edition. I would chose blood angles as the most likely heavy asault army but i dont want two imperial armies. I might chose orks if the playstyle is more what im looking for and i have the added benefit of a 1000 point of 2nd/3rd edition ork models i can mix into the army. I am sure people would love facing my tiny metal ork buggies, skorchas, wartraks, bikes and walkers. they are litteraly 2/3 the size of current day plastic models and still look pretty cool.

MoS plus IoE gives them first strike and feel no pain. Plus they can bring a couple special weapons. Now that they are scoring units, I can see them becoming part of the CSM scene again.

I like raptors... but Bikes are so more cost-effective. now that 1 HQ + 2 Troops open another detach, you can field both without much stress.
2 melta-totting raptors are good against sneaky DTs

I like this. Plus they can bring their friend the Heldrake and it's all legal.

No, thats just the vanguards. But as a bonus our units only scatter 1D6" instead of 2D6 so long as they have Descent of Angels rule (almost every unit that has access to a jp has this rule with the exception of HQ options that dont have the JP standard). Our ASM's can have melta/plasma guns, we have mass access to cheap sources of FNP (75 points for a 6" bubble with a jp, you can cover two squads at once), badass melee characters (ignores armor at initiative with Tycho, rerolls on successful invoulns with Astorath) and with the new book coming soon hopefully get even better.
