This imposing model is the very first kit in our exciting new Collector's Edition range. It is a complete 3x scale up and re-working of the original 10mm scale Ares Battle Walker - be sure to check out the gallery for this product, as it illustrates just how much bigger a 3-up is! Although this model makes a fantastic display centrepiece, it is cast from the highest quality tough resin and is more than suitable for gaming, should you wish to use the model for skirmish-based systems.
This finely detailed resin kit is far from a simple scale up. Many new features have been added and most of the original detail has been re-mastered to suit this scale. We have ensured that this kit delivers the level of detail that fans of our DZC range have come to expect. The legs have also been made completely posable - right down to the toes! This makes all sorts of dynamic poses possible, allowing you to make yours truly unique.
This miniature is available exclusively from Hawk Wargames direct.

Not a fan of the Ares per se, but if they're doing more "Collector's Scale" models, I can see a potential buy in the not to distant future.

Hawk Wargames makes awesome small-scale miniatures, but this really does seem like a strict three-up. It's nice from a collector's point of view to have a larger version of your favorite Dropzone models, but at that size the flat areas make it look as bland as a Warmachine model.
I guess this is where a creative paintjob would shine.
As a 10mm model it looks incredible. As a 30mm model, it really needed some more added detail. You can tell it's a 10mm model upscaled, like the old Armorcast Epic stuff.
This model is a beauty. For those saying that it is just an up-scaled 10mm Ares, it is not - it has had much more extra detail added. Perhaps this video will clear things up (from Natfka at Faeit 212):
Excellent work by Dave and the team at Hawk Wargames. Many are hoping that this could be the beginnings of a DropZone skirmish game, so then perhaps we could have a full campaign, consisting of a "DropShip" Commander battle in orbit, followed by a DropZone Commander full-scale ground battle, and then a Dropzone Skirmish in the streets and buildings (or where-ever). Fingers crossed!
There is a real danger is jumping to another game before you've properly filled out and expanded on the one game that's actually making money and gaining you a fanbase. One look at the mess that was Spartan Games should be enough.
It's important to realize that even if it's in the same setting and uses similar rules, launching a game in a new scale is still an entirely new game.
I think they entertained the idea of going 30mm while in development for DZC, but quickly dropped the idea as the game solidified into 10mm. This model is a showpiece meant for fans, and useful as a generic walker in 28mm scifi gaming. But you won't, and should not, see a game in the scale for many years, especially if you want the base DZC game to grow and thrive to the point where it's played in a majority of gaming stores and clubs.
Fracturing a small player-base is not a good idea, even if it is a soft split from one scale to another. That's why Hawk is presenting this as a novelty piece.

Ick. You can count me firmly not amongst those many people - I just got in to DzC, and I did it specifically because 10mm scale appeals to me (well also because my first love, GW, are currently dead to me until they clean up their act). I don't want Hawk Wargames' focus split like that - let's keep DzC rolling. I don't think there's any real danger there though, these are just collectors' pieces.
@Vertrucio: Indeed, I totally agree. I didn't know that they originally thought of going for 30mm, that is interesting.

I too believe that DZC should keep on going. Hawk are pretty certain about bringing a new space ship game (based in the DZC universe) out, suggested as being sometime later this year. Perhaps, when DZC and this space battle game are very well established, they could think about devising and bringing a 30mm (basically non-heroic 28mm) game to the table. I certainly wasn't insinuating that they should do it right now (and neither do I seriously think so), but believe me when I say that many people are hoping for/dreaming about a 30mm DZC skirmish game (since seeing this model). I suppose it won't be for everyone, but the fact that it would be created by Dave and Hawk Wargames fills me with strong confidence.
If they make one of the larger PHR walkers, I'm totally buying them.
IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.
New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights! The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.
Pretty awesome kit, though i'm confused how anyone can feel it lacks detail. I guess theres a precedent set by GW and the likes that every surface must be crammed with gubbins.

Yeah, sure looks like there's some room for skulls there.
Vertrucio wrote: It's one of the things I don't like about the scourge miniatures, way too much extra hard creased detail that doesn't add to the look.
Which makes me sad since I wanted to play the scourge as my army, but just can't stand their basic units.
I was the other way I had no interest in painting or playing them until I got them in the 2 player starter and once I had them in my hands I liked them.
I like it. Like some other people have said about I don't understand why some people seem to put off by the flat empty areas. I really like the clean sleek look of the minimalist approach, especially when compared to GW models which are often a confusing and crowed mess of unecessery detail.
In this case less is more.

There were a few different ones at Salute, but the only other one I can remember specifically was the Athena.
“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”
