It'll be similar to the standard combat in 40k, ie roll to hit, copare S and T and roll to wound, but the system will be tweaked so I can do a finer level of damage.

Yes, but how will it actually be done?
Will I say something like 'I move, so I Snap Shot my Multimelta at that Trygon.' and then you roll yourself to see if I hit & wound?

I think the PM event system would be best, GM initiates combat event, we PM our actions for that fight (mostly they'll be pretty predictable I suspect, sometimes we probably won't even need to PM and Cas can just roll) and Cas makes rolls then posts here the sequence of events which we can then write up as we please.

Combat will be done as Darko has described it, it is the easiest and fairest way to represent combat that I've found. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

I am thinking maybe i could take the Hormagant out with Hemorrhage? I know were he is, so i could do it with my mind out of line of sight. Other option is to try psychically 'smother' the Hormagant if Castiel will let me (Roll a D6+Ldship after a Psy test) so someone can shoot it in the face the the Hive Mind won't notice it.
Any other options?

Um yeah, I can sneak up on the little thing and kill it. If we want to make sure its dead, you can also do stuff to make sure it cant cry out or anything. Plus I feel if we shoot a gun, we will wake the room up.

Sneaking up on it won't be easy and i wonder how Castiel would play it. I imagine something like D6+Initiative would work, and might put us at a disadvantage. If we see if i can 'smother' him first then the idea to walk up to him and put a combat knife through his head sounds like the best plan going.

I`m a scout sergeant, I train marines in these kinds of operations, I don't want you to fail the smothering and it blurt out and me execute it seconds too late. I`d rather do it at the same time, at least then we can coordinate.

You guys might want to prioritise the Zoanthrope, don't they get S10 AP1 small psychic blasts? That'd be pretty damn ugly if one of your team got hit by it, I don't think Castiel has given everyone EW? That'd be kills on a 2+ with no saves

Yeah sure, that way if you get rumbled (Insert Snake Spotted Music!) the entire Squad is there to back you up from the awakening Warriors. I am starting to think a Force Staff was a good idea here, 4+ Saves are common and they are Multi-wound models, Go go gadget Force Weapon!
**EDIT** I assume i'd have a Psychic Hood built in like other Librarians so that might give you a slim chance...slim.

I say we mix the two plans, our librarian tries to psychically block the 'gaunts signature, while Raphael takes him out with a knife to the brainstem.

After some consideration I think one would be the best choice actualy, more chance for a dead gaunt. And less hassel for us

Hemorrhage isn't 100% likely, first i have to pass a Leadership test on 3D6 pick 2 Highest, then i have to roll a hit, then he fails to deny, then he has to fail a toughness 3 test. I agree that it would be a good plan, but that is due to me assuming the Gaunt just flopping over dead with mush pouring out it's eyes won't alert the Hive while a Bolt will.
Both options have merit, but i like the one with the Knife to the brainstem. At least that way if it all goes to gak we will all be in a position to help out as the Tyranids wake up.

If I might offer another option: going in guns blazing and shooting the hell out of the slumbering Tyranids before they can react. If you had a good turn of shooting (and melee, for those characters that are good at it) you could probably wipe them out or at least kill enough of them that if they got a chance to react they aren't strong enough to be deadly.
In a pre-emptive strike you greatly raise the chances of killing them all without anything going wrong as opposed to trying to take out this one gaunt that raises the alarm if you get unlucky.

I'd say to give up the element of surprise to early would give us greater trouble ahead. Remember, it's not just the Warriors we are threatening to wake up, but the entire Hive Ship. If a Warriors sees us it will relay that across the entire ship before you can say 'open fire'. So if we take out the Gaunt silently, then we keep the same element of surprise vs the next encounter, which we can indeed go guns blazing into.

Why do Hormagaunts raise the alarm anyway? They are not Synapse creatures. According to the Codex, it's the Tervigons who walk around in the corridors, guarding for intruders and waking up more Tyranids if enemies are spotted.

If I may offer a bit of help to Nirn's squad.
It isn't a hormagaunt, its an alarm system with a hormagaunt's stats. If it is alerted to your presence then the warriors and zoanthrope wake, which means the whole ship knows where you are. Remember Raphael has a stalker-pattern bolter, which means that it is silenced, so no noise to alert things.
To psychically smother with will be a roll Ld+D6 for you and it. As it is leadership 5 this will automatically be successful. However you will only be able to hold it for a short amount of time due to the Shadow in the Warp.
And hi there Deadshot, good to see ya!
