XD, I thought the stalker was just a marksman version of the bolter, shows what I know about 40k lore. Alright, then I think we have a consensus to shoot the thing with my stalker bolter.

Courageous Space Marine Captain
|
Hi there, me again!
The Stalker pattern bolter is a modified Godwyn Pattern Bolter equipped with several modifications to enable it to become a potent marksmen's rifle, including an M40 Targetter system (includes 40x zoom, infrared and UV vision and in some cases, wind and gravity compensators), a flash suppressor (which hides both flash and suppressors the gunshot) and specially designed bolts that fly faster than sound. The bullets have a much higher impact speed than a standard bolt weapon. They are most commonly fitted with a straight mag, which holds 20 rounds instead of the standard sickle mag's 30, but the straight shape means it loads easier and faster.
That is all! Good luck!

Hey Blaxican,
I don't have space for any new characters, but there is one in the game that I haven't heard anything about from its creator since before the game launched. If I haven't heard anything by the end of tomorrow then I'd be willing to let you take control of that character if you want?

The character is called Venator Umbra, a combat marine. I might let you change his equipment to your tastes as well if he is going free, seeing as it hasn't been mentioned yet..

Ok, baxter is taking part it seems. However, Blaxican, if you would like to make a character with either marine or combat marine stats then ahead and post him up and I will insert him into Squad Nirn.
@Baxter: Can you catch up on what has happened for your character in the game, as your current posts aren't following where your character is. You are with the squad that was almost washed away by the effluent. If you can edit your posts in line with where you currently are and then tell me if you want to brace for the effluent or rush for the tunnel then I will roll so see what happens to your character.

Dakka games aren't even expected to reach the dreaded page 6 of death any more eh? I miss the good old days...
I wouldn't worry Trondheim, it'll get going soon enough I'm sure. Part of why it's so slow in general is of course because every combat event and location is pretty much down to Castiel's decision and he is a busy man much of the time.
Also, I'm a fan of the Mandalorian/ RC theme lyrics in your signature.

Nothing, he was just a bit jumpy.
He crept forwards and something snapped under him. That was no twig...
He hurtled sideways and his head smashed against the bio-wall, and his helmet smashed open like an egg.
His eyes rolled within his skull and his thoughts were scrambled. He tried to get up and heard a roar.
His head cracked to the side before he could blink.
So.. this Marine just died?

If he did, he sure died quickly and easily. I mean, his squadmates would surely have reacted? No kill team would ever be stupid enough to do a boarding action without an auspex, which can detect attackers.
Who has the auspex anyway?

I imagine as part of the Deathwatch we have several spread across the squad. The Inquisition is hardly limited in terms of resources, the Deathwatch use the best of the best after all.
In fact, I might dig out an old white dwarf I have that contained unique Deathwatch rules. They're a little outdated but maybe it'll inspire Castiel.
Also, I got the impression he wasn't attacked. It seemed like he tripped and smashed his skull open (through his ceramite helmet..) on the squishy walls of the ship.
Not the most befitting way for a Space Marine to die. I'm assuming Baxter wanted to leave the game and killed off his character as such, in which case I suspect Castiel will overrule that as a GM because there really is no reason for a character to die like that.

Indeed.
Where myself, Cas and TGN generally RP this sort of thing doesn't happen. It breaks the game up, it makes no sense, so on and so forth. I'm not even sure why Baxter apparently wants to quit the game, but in any case it is courteous and responsible to discuss it with the GM.
Random, nonsensical death just for the sake of it is a rather silly gimmick.

I'm pretty sure there's a falling mechanic in the FFG Deathwatch RPG where you take a certain amount of damage per meter of distance you fall
So if your Marine is pretty tall or something and he falls over, rolling really bad on the damage dice he can theoretically kill himself iirc

It seemed that the Tenebris Ultores selection procedures were not as rigorous as those of the other characters and the weak-willed marine’s mind had snapped and broken under the pressure of the hive mind all around them. They left his gene-seed uncollected, there was no room for weakness in the Adeptus Astartes.
Oh, burn

True enough. I'm a big fan of the FFG40k rules myself, although I've never participated in a Deathwatch game. I've done Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader aplenty but have yet to see anyone cast themselves from great height, ending their adventure in a not-so-glorious splatter.
Still, I hope to run another FFG40k game some time soon, and indeed test out how well it'd run on a forum, so if enough people requested it then I would do it.
Back to the game, I'll post in a second. I recommend we go in guns blazing and kill the brood mother and her vile spawn. The sneaky route has far too much margin for failure in my opinion (curse the law of averages, eh?) and we're here to kill Tyranids, so let's get down to it eh? We can't hide forever. Plus, one team causing havoc will leave the other slightly more free to move around, I suspect, as the creatures that are awake will respond to the threat they are aware of.
