Okay, before you fluffists come at me (bro), this was a commission request, gotta please the client!
the client commissioned me to concept, sculpt and paint a female Grey knight terminator w/ magnetized cc weapons.
Concept: We went for hair like kate beckinsale (as close as one can get at 28mm scale with my basic skills).
Sculpting begins. I needed to create the enlarged gorget to fit the head inside (hair was gunna be big). The face is a dark eldar face with the hair scraped off and reapplied.
For anyone wondering, I used Green stuff mixed with terracotta milliput (creates a smoother surface I find, easier to bulk up).
Second day of sculpting: I went back to greenstuff (smoothed with vaseline) to create the finer details. I used Rare-earth magnets glued in and cemented over with milliput. It took a long time to decide the size of breast armor. Too small, and it loses the effect, too big and it'll look dumb.
Fully Painted: (tabletop quality). Hair dryers, thats how you can paint super fast (no drying time). I painted this in about 5 hours (client is from farm, needed it asap) The armor went through a few layers (I used gunmetal mixed with some greys for a drybrushed base over black, followed by nuln oil wash, followed by gunmetal and silver highlight brush, followed by watered down blue wash followed by silvered line highlights).
Colors are based on client's army color scheme (as close as I could get).
thanks for lookin!

The breast armour is far too large IMO.
The model is fine otherwise.

Yeah, I imagine that in Terminator armor, there's no reason to have any external breast shaped pieces on the armor. They would just be concealed in the armor. It isn't like it is form-fitting.
So cool, but a little silly.

Ah, darn, I was hoping it wouldnt come across that way. It looked a lot smaller (and as realistic as one can get with terminator armor, and at 28mm) but the addition of the ribbing jumped up the size quite a bit... ah well!
Thanks for the critique

From a design aesthetic, yeah, no reason to have breast armor at all (plus she should be wearing a helmet) but gotta please the client!
thanks!

There is no practical need for armor-titties. Aesthetics are however very important in the Imperium, or do corset-wearing battle-nuns strike you as practical?
This one works quite well imo.

I think the TDA is lage enough that unless the woman is horribly gifted, she wont need it. We will assume this is a female astartes, thus there is a good chance she would not have proper reproductive organs, just like male astartes. Thus, why would she have giant breasts?

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |

google female in bulletproof vest, then probably lose the Size HHH boobs.
Also the brest spacing is way too much, her body isn't as thick as the armor, and even if it were, her breasts would not be spaced so far apart.
I like the model pose and the kitbash of plastic, a lot.

I'm pretty sure that most of the battle-nuns wouldn't fill out their corsets (unless the ones that do fit go into the Adepta Sororitas, the ones that don't become Militarum Tempestus). Thus, I have this mental image of at least one grizzled Veteran Sister Superior filling the space with a booze flask.

I like everything but the breasts on this model. I understand the direction taken was outlined by the client, but I think the female head would have been enough to convey the message of "female Grey Knight" rather than needing comically large breasts.
Plus it would be fun to see how long it took people to notice that was a woman in the armor rather than a man.

Thanks for the critique! I was pretty happy with my first attempt, but I can see how 'closer together' would look better, I'll try that if I attempt another female character.

The ribbing could have been more subtle perhaps, like in the concept art.
However, people saying this kind of armour has no function is wrong. Like most ornaments on marines these boobs has a clear function of showing identity on the battlefield, much like most chapters have colour markings, banners or other ornaments to proudly display who they are.
I mean, clearly, space wolves dont need to drape their TDA in fur cloaks to stay warm, as a paralell sillyness.
The sculpt could be much worse (after all, its not supposed to be "realistic"), the head looks great.

Except "boob-plate" actually creates a disadvantage, while wolf skins don't.
the curvature actually funnels any incoming attacks into the center of the chest, making the armor weaker there. So it makes the wearer more vulnerable.
Anyway, the model looks very nice. I just loathe boob-plate for the above reasons.
