So, I'm new, I picked up my first core set...but I have my shopping all planned out for what to get next. I just have one problem. I've been looking around on google and have seen some fantastic terrain that people have made themselves. One in particular featured destroyed ship parts and asteroids. The thing I'm wondering is where do you think I can pick up inexpensive star wars ships that are close to the same scale as the x-wing minis to use for this? I'm not too excited to buy actual x-wing minis just to chop up for terrain, I'd like to use those to play the game!

If you are going for space junk/debris, I'd use cheap anything. Plastic models and cheap toys would be my first search. feeBay can be a gold mine.

Should also see what the rules for those new debris fields are.

You know, if you are feeling adventurous you could create some capital ship-sized debris. I think a mix of solid, soda-can sized pieces and larger, "hollow" pieces that can be flown through would look very cool!

I believe the old micromachines were fairly similar in size.

I want to do this, but also instead of flying in space, you can fly in the atmosphere or flying over land and use natural terrain pieces like hills, rock formations, etc. It would look different and you can come up with new rules for stuff if you wanted .

Ideally me and another guy are going to do this with some large rock pieces that look like rock towers you see in Utah and the southwest USA, the next time we play.

That sounds awesome! Hell, throw in a few flying mountains from Avatar!
Got to post pics when you do!

Star Wars Titaniums could do the job, though some of them are quite pricey now.

3d asteroids are dead easy and you can have a goodly number done in an afternoon. I'll post pics of mine when I get near a pc.

Styrene spheres from a craft/general store plus cake lolly sticks with a plasticard base. Insert a stick into a sphere so that it is taller than your ships on a stand (makes it easier to game with as you're not trying to balance ships against the roids) and glue it to your carefully cut (or random) out asteroid shapped base.

The fun bit is base coating them black and making interesting shapes by melting the styrene with the paint. Once dry you can dry brush and wash to your hearts content and voilla nice roids.

https://www.dropbox.com/sc/vxfonf8v4l2x4sw/AACykjxrQnOBvptnpwsrFU1Ca I still need to sort out a gaming mat, but the asteroids make the games interesting on bigger tables.

For asteroids, you could "appropriate" (or buy a bag of) some landscaping lava rocks/pumice and hot glue some stands onto them.

I just went hiking & picked up a bunch of pumice stones for asteroids. I then cut out foamcore bases that match the
official asteroids & glued them down. I'd have preferred them be floating but it makes them easy to knock over.

I've also built a tibanna gas refinery platform & a control tower platform to go with including turrets & a cloud car landing pad. I'm currently scratchbuilding an Imperial freighter (Suprosa from Shadows of the Empire) that will not only work as terrain like the GR-75 but also going to adapt the GR-75 rules & create a title card giving it weapons options.
