Subject: 7th Edition Ork Stikkbomb Chukkas - WHY!?
|
 |
Lead-Footed Trukkboy Driver

Why are these a thing? Oh, I know what they do. They give any unit that disembarks from a vehicle Stikkbombs until the end of the turn. The issue is EVERY SINGLE INFANTRY UNIT(except painboys) HAS STIKKBOMBS.
Why is this even an option in the codex? And I'm being serious here. I'm trying to figure this out. Does anyone have an answer?

"Just the act of orks looting it defiles it! There are Techpriests rolling over in their graves!" "Yeah! I'm rolling over them in their graves!"

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

Not a whole lot, but enough to make it technically have a point.
Highly situational, highly unlikely point-but a point none-the-less.
Don't cry when you got EXTRA options. you have any idea how many tau empire tank upgrades never see the light of day because they are just too random?

It's more redundant than situational. Gretchin have Stikkboms a la their Runtherds. Painboys, Wierdboys, and Grotsnik are all independent characters, and 99.9% of the time, they will be charging out of a transport with a unit, and thus have stikk bombs. Unless grenades have changed in 7th edition without my knowing (VERY possible) such that the entire unit needs to have grenades to benefit from them, I can conceive of almost no scenario in which it would matter.

I'm really getting tired of this kind of comment. It is possible that GW doesn't play-test their stuff, but is it likely? I don't believe so. When your post is based entirely on your own speculation, unless you're prefacing it with "This is entirely my speculation, do not take it seriously", you aren't contributing anything to the thread. Especially when worded so vilely.
That goes for your "my biggest complaint" comment as well. I have MUCH bigger complaints about the codex, but that's not for this discussion.

Get tired of it all you like, but it's GW's apathy towards their own rules and a focus on "forging a narrative" over a competent set of clear, concise and carefully constructed rules that have turned the game of 40K into a joke.

1. The rules have already changed in 6th. If you don't have assault grenades you don't get any benefit from them. For Grotsnik this is irrelevant anyways, since he has a PK.
2. If the had actually put a vehicle with stikkbomb chuckas on the table once, they would have seen this problem.
3. The vehicle itself also gets the genades, so RAW trukks and battlewagons with this upgrade can throw stikkbombs.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

The fact that you have "much bigger complaints" about this codex should show you why we think GW does no playtesting. These problems wouldn't go through if there was even a small amount of testing done on the product. There's a good argument that they didn't even play a single game of the Legion of the Damned dex since rules as written, they auto lose on first turn. That leaves us with either: 1. GW do not know their own rules; or 2. GW do not playtest.

It says nothing about requiring allies. If it *wasn't* a stand alone it's reasonable to expect it would be mentioned as such. Rather than being called a "codex" when every other codex is completely stand alone.

Bingo, or why Grotsnik has cybork body when he has dok tools. By the looks of the book they just stack all the complaints into one pile and then nerf all the good things, even if those things haven't been good for 2 editions, which leads me to 2 conclusions.
1) If they do test play its in a bubble which is terrible.
2) They have no idea how the game works and just make it up as they go along.
Seriously who thought Mob rule needed a random chart that punishes the Ork player for using Orks? Barrage weapons are going to be devastating against orks, snipe out a nob and the other 29 boyz are screwed.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

I suspect that they forgot that (almost) every unit comes with them automatically. And, I suspect that they forgot that because they made a split-second, random decision to give every unit (including those with Power Klaws) stikkbombs.
Either that, or they did it to enrage those of us with Cybork Nobs and Eavy Armor nobs in boyz squads. "Ha! We left modeled rules options in the codex--just not the ones that you modeled!".

I just stuck a pair of stikkbomb chukkas on a Battlewagon I was building last night. They just looked neat and I like the concept. But you know, I think I might buy them and actually fire stikkbombs with them, just because I can.
(It's also my only Battlewagon with absolutely zero weapons. I figured it'd be nice to build one whose sole purpose is getting the Boyz to the fight, not trying to act like a gun platform like my others.)

Speaking of which, they could have made stikkbomms into some defensive mechanism against incoming assaulters just like the IG got these promethium tanks that grant instant s:4 hits against all miniatures in base contact...

Only with Battle brothers. And you're only allowed to be battle brothers with the same race because racism trumps fluff apparently.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."
"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

You've spent too much time amongst those Tau, my friend. No defensive or photon grenades for us Orks, just bare-bones assault ones.
@Suks - Yes, but why would you? The chukka is not a generic platform that lets you discharge grenades of every kind. It only works with stikkbombs. So if the plan was to ally in Inquisition or DA for vehicle-mounted rad grenades, I must sadly say it won't work.
