If a state like Texas is indicting you with a GRAND JURY on child abuse charges when they allow corporal punishment in schools there is a problem........

Yup. Saw em. Pretty tame and, if I'm being honest, normal for southern black families. In my house it was a belt or a big fuckin hand. In 2014 America both of my parents would be arrested, I guess. I hate our country more and more everyday.

I'm tired of the media and the public outcry. Where's the indefinite suspensions for all the NFL DUI bros. How about the "normal" assaulters? feth, Dante Stallworth KILLED a person and was allowed back.

Such hypocritical, public outcry driven nonsense.

I'm at a loss for words here. Your really gonna try and rationalize child abuse of a 4 year old child? Do you even understand how much worse gettig hit with a switch is over a belt or hand?

I think were stretching the word "abuse" here.

And why is it worse than a belt?

Just out of curiousity where do you draw the line on abuse? He hit a 4 year old with a wooden stick judging by pictures in the range of 20+ times in the back, legs, butt, scrotum, stomach, arms, and hands by his own admission.

It's worse than a belt because from prior experience it draws blood and lacerates skin FAR easier and feels about 10x worse because of physics and the fact it doesn't flex as much as a belt. I got beat with all sorts of things as a kid, by far the worst was a wooden spoon followed closely by a switch(which was the only one I still have scars from 20 years later) and in distant last place on the pain scale was a belt.

I don't know where I draw the line, but I don't think this is abuse. I think if it's a habitual and malicious thing then that's abuse. I don't fall into the "any time you physically discipline your child it's abuse" camp.

I was spanked and disciplined plenty, and I'd take a few very minor cuts from a switch than the welts and bruising I received from belt.

Fair enough on the abuse part. We can agree to disagree.

But you don't understand about the switch. It leaves welts and bruises AND cuts you open. It's literally everything a belt does but 10x worse.

What I am surprised about....and makes me go *hmm* are thse things:

1) This happened in May and this is the first we hear of it
2) A grand jury already declined to charge him

Yah the pics look bad....and they look worse because they aren't just limited to his butt.

So I think that technically in most states it would probably be considered abuse because by he marks remained after 24 hours.

Thats one of the big defining things here in IA....as long as there are no marks after 24 hrs, its kosher.

To further highlight the deliciousness of NFL hypocrisy, the criminally convicted Greg Hardy will be starting for the Carolina Panthers this weekend.

What a cluster feth.

What was he convicted of?

* * * *

Did you see that there is now a new drug policy going into place?

Big highlights:

1) acceptable marijuana level raised from 15 to like 35 units in the blood
2) suspension for a 4th time drug offense (like Gordon's) is only 10 games instead of a year
3) HGH testing now, except no testing in game day
4) sime changes to appeal stuff

Hardy was convicted of hitting his girlfriend/wife or whatever. Happened early in the offseason. I will 100% agree with you cincy in the fact the nfl and roger goodell specifically are hypocritically inconsistent In there punishment. Goodell needs to lose his job and post haste. It's prett unbelievable he's still employed making 44million a year.

Ray McDonald (49ers DE) is also up on domestic charges but the leagues doing nothing. I think there's been 56 domestic abuse cases since Goddell's been commissioner but only about 13 games in suspensions handed out (This was before Rice's ban got boosted to 'indefinite')
Goddell will keep his job because not enough owners will want to kick him and that's all the matters in the end

See, and that's the thing that people don't think about sometimes.

They want anyone who is arrested to be immediately suspended or disciplined.....because they are obviously guilty.

Well, the problem is that this pesky thing we have called a "justice system" is actually the institution that determines guilt or innocence.

As much as the court of public opinion may want to convict him and toss these people out of the league because *the people* think he is already guilty.....they need to be found guilty legally first.

So, until he is convicted legally, the league cannot (and really, should not) suspend anybody.

It's the right thing to do. And sometimes, doing the right thing is neither the easy nor desirable thing.

Nonsense. Just like any other employer the league has the ability to fire people before they are convicted of a crime, or without being convicted at all. There might be some argument for "wait and see" in cases where guilt is uncertain and we're still waiting for the facts, but these aren't controversial cases we're talking about. The players are obviously guilty, and there's nothing left to wait for. Fire them and move on.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

And there have been even more cases of regular assault and DUI/DWI, yet there's no moral outrage or thirst for blood. Domestic abuse and regular good old fashioned assault should be dealt with the exact same way.

If, out of the blue, your employer came to you and said that they were firing you because a co-worker claimed that you exposed yourself to them....how would that make you feel? A bit angry? Like it's not fair? Like "I'm going to sue those buggers because I'm innocent!"

the NFL is a very observed occupation, just Like the Donald Sterling incident although he didn't break a law he brought the NBA's reputation into disrepute and was kicked out.
Being fired because of another employee's word in a 'regular' job is an entirely different ballpark

For the most part I feel the larger amount of outrage against Rice is due to the pretty graphic video of the incident being out in the public domain

Agreed. That seems to be substantiated by the fact that Hardy and the Niners bro aren't receiving close to the same scrutiny.

I guess that I'm a Lawful Neutral kind of fella, with "Good" tendencies....

I certainly don't like the actions of Rice et al, and I do believe that they are indeed guilty of the crimes which they are (or have been) charged with.....however....we do have a legal process in this country that should be followed.

This is their job, and it's basically no different than what you or I do. They should be afforded the same job protection and due process from suspension/termination that anybody else should receive.

Yes, I realize that they are in the public eye, and far more scrutinized....but again, it's my opinion that their jobs should not be taken away while under investigation for X, Y, or Z charges.

Look at police officers involved in shootings.....I believe that it is customary to put them on "paid administrative leave" while investigations are being completed. They don't suspend them without pay....they don't suspend them because they are guilty. They let the investigation process work.

Personally I think that would be a great option for the NFL to utilize....but of course, there would be people who say "Why is he still getting paid while they investigate him?"

It's kind of a lose-lose no matter what kind of position that they adopt regarding suspensions.
