Initially my favorite traitor legion was the Thousand Sons because Tzeentch is my favorite Chaos God and then i liked Iron Warriors because of their color and the novel Storm of Iron. But i have always loved the Word Bearers. I like that they worship Chaos Undivided and how fanatical they are.
But the jist i get from most warhammer40 fans is that they are not liked, hardly at all. I know I'm free to enjoy whichever legion i like but just wanted to ask the community here. Do you like their fluff, combat doctrine, etc.
I personally love their color design too

Maybe Chaos Daemons are so angry all the time because despite their near infinite intelligence they can't seem to forge anything more complex than a sword, an axe, or a staff |

I like the Gal Vorbak, and Argel Tal. The first true chaos space marine, first possessed marine even. Was actually a decent bloke. Other than him and Lorgar they're a bunch of zealous prats who stop in the middle of brutal combat to pray and crucify some loyalists on the back of their Rhinos.

The main reason they are disliked, IMO, is because of Erebus being a distasteful little rat. He's universally hated by all he comes across in the novels. The other is Kor Phaeron, Lorgar's adoptive father. He was given genetic enhancements to make him an almost-Astartes and because First Captain. Between them they showed how weak willed Lorgar is. Also, the Legion started the Heresy, all because the Big E slapped Lorgar's wrist. Automatically Appended Next Post: sierra 1247 wrote:I like the Gal Vorbak, and Argel Tal. All dis. Argel Tal is one of my favourite characters.

He is brilliant though, I mean he is one of the few who realise that neither side is right in the Heresy. And though it pains me to admit it my favourite scene in the Heresy so far features Erebus. When Kharn hands his ass to him many many times over in the pits. Hahaha

I find it really, really hard to believe that the Thousand Sons are the most played. When I try to buy many of their models in GW stores they say they don't carry them cause no one buys them so I have to go online.
Also 95% of all CSM lists on this Dakka are Nurgle lists.
I really want to express how unlikely it is that most CSM players use Thousand Sons. I think its a reflection of how they're the most liked and people want to play them so they say they do.
As for the Word Bearers, I really dislike them for their zeal. I am disgusted by the idea of them

Aside from the Iron Warriors, I like the word bearers. I think according to one of the calth novels, they may have invented the (pre-abbadon) defiler. Also aside from Kor and Erebus' antics, the world bearers don't try and kill each other over small things. They also don't seem to have a problem with daemon possession decimating their ranks (early Black Legion) or incurring the wrath of the dark gods when building daemon engines (Iron Warriors).

I could have sworn that the Iron Warriors/Perturabo constructed the Defiler under the design and command of Abby...
Or maybe that's what you were saying, sorry the wording was throwing me off, wasn't sure which legion you were referring

That's the best thing about them though. Chaos Space Marines need to know that they're inferior to daemons and that's what Word Bearers do. Your Iron Warriors think they're above the gods? Wait until they get the invoice saying "Hey, in case you didn't realize, you belong to us now."
Glorifying the gods is what helps the Chaos Space Marines actually be Chaos Space Marines. Without that, CSM as a whole are a terrible representation of Chaos.

The Iron Warriors may not think their above the gods but they sure like disrespecting their daemons. I think in one of the books their using one of khornes favorite blood thirsters as a battery for an anti-psyker shield.

Indeed.

I've read that word bearers worship Chaos yet have no problem summoning and using weak daemons as meat shields because they view themselves greater the grand scale of chaos. A little contradictory but understandable. No way i would take orders from a plaguebearer.

TGood point to make. Its like worshiping God (Christian) vs worshipping Priests. One is the God, the other is a servant of the God.

sure, not sure I'd wanna use that analogy as deamons are essentially "avatars of the essence of the god" but it works. one could certinly question why they aren't more respectful to deamons if that is the case but hipocracy in religon is hardly unique to 40k chaos worshippers

even then, some CSM worship chaos as the relvalation that there are gods. Worshiping Chaos Undivided you are not worshiping a Chaos god, you are worshiping or rather submitting to the fact that there are gods.
Or perhaps just my warband takes on a muslim submission aspect. God does not need worship, but rather acknowledgement.

Sure, I like them. They're probably my favourite CSMs, now that I think about it.
What I like about them is how they're the most generally Chaos-y of the CSMs, since they're so devoted to the powers of Chaos in general. I think that if you want to see Chaos in general in its purest form, these guys are the ones to look at. And, of course, I also like how they're like a dark reflection of my own favourite army. Natural rivals, and all that.
I also enjoy how there's a certain amount of irony to be had in looking at their origins. Had they stayed loyal, they would have fit right into the present-day Imperium. They were, in a sense, the right men in the wrong time.
