Also I have to agree, Tangerine Dream is some good music. I also rather like Infected Mushroom and others of the psytrance ilk.
Just a vehicle? or a vehicle blazing the road?
you´re really very into music methinks?... very associative mind of yours that has a musical expression to sudden situations...cool!

Yah, Everything is connected to everything else Vik. You just have to be willing to see the connections.

Were you to look carefully in the background of some of the photos I post, you would note an old shelf stereo system in the background. It's slaved to an old laptop which acts as a media player. (I use Amarok as my media player of choice.) Always have music playing when I work. For some reason it helps me to concentrate. I find silence to be distracting.

Welcome newcomers. Good progress people. Liking what I'm seeing.
I'm also one for listening to music almost all the time and cannot concentrate in silence (I'd have listened to music in exams if it was allowed). If I'm in, I'll have music on. If I'm out, I take music with me.
While the subject of the competition is roads, and there are going to be a large proportion of vehicles included, don't forget that, as a terrain competition, the terrain elements of your pieces need to live up to the vehicle parts.
The vehicles will be included in the judging (I'm not saying don't make them), but a beautiful vehicle on a basic, flocked base could loose out to a beautiful road with nice surroundings and no vehicle.
Give the terrain the time it deserves.

Not directed at anyone in particular. But I don't want to see anyone run out of time to finish their terrain because they've spent too much time making an epic vehicle.
Just thought I'd mention it while there was plenty of time left.
Obviously, if you are including a vehicle, I will be studying it just as closely as the terrain. So don't scrimp on the details there either.

Lots of great things happening around, people, keep them coming!
On the matter of music, I heartily agree: Recently I got a MP3 companion speaker that went straight into the workshop (sadly lacking up to now on that front), and has since been a great addition to the toolbox! (Not a fan of headsets or earphones, they add too much to the isolationism factor I've already been accused off when working there!)
Off-topic, latest advancement:
A couple additional roads (paths, at least), added, just to strengthen the adherence to the Comp's theme !

So, I listened to this podcast some time ago, http://www.scientificamerican.com/podcast/episode/music-helps-you-work-harder-13-11-03/ Seems more or less relevant.
Littletower, Speakers in the shop, FTW! I always worry that I will accidentally slice through an earbud or headphone cable. Now, the only Argentine singer I can recall is Tormenta ("Chico de Mi Barrio") and no clue about her real name.
All sorts of intriguing projects. I like the variety, although it will make judging harder. Ah well.

@Red H: That's good, but there's a lot more to choose from, too Ranging from world-known tango (both classic and new) to hard rock, through even some renowned reggae group and two-time Oscar winner Gustavo Santaolalla, you can take your pick!
Just give me some hints as to what you might like to try out and I'll try to point something out.
Since we are at it, great landscapes, better food, awesome wines and very tourist friendly, too!
(This is just my personal opinion(s) and has not been paid for by Argentina's National Tourism Administration in any way )
Feel free to resume normal programming at any time.
Cheers!

OK, I gave it some thought and I have figured out exactly what I am going to do for the terrain and road itself. I happen to have some unused 'floating' shelves on hand and got a bit inspired. What I am looking at doing is having the river banks sculpted onto the shelf and spilling down over the front edge showing roots, dirt, and a few other surprises. The river itself will have a variety of small stones and a larger boulder breaking the surface of the water. The bridge layer vehicle will be on the one side of the shore on a road following the river shore.

Havent been able to get much done with doing extra shifts at work, but the upside is I should be starting management training in a month or two. And only been here 3 months!
Anyways, here is what I did the other morning after work when I was all hyped up on coffee. They are all securely glued now and ready for cutting.
Then I did some more work on my Thunderhawk, which can be seen in my blog.

I want to see an elf hobbit hand poking out from between the bread slices of that sandwich. Does that make me a bad person?

That looks great Cam, What is the paving made from? I really like it.
Here are a couple of progress shots from me.
I tried my hand at scratch building the side of a rhino...It's my first attempt at building a vehicle with cardboard-I really enjoyed the process.
It's a bit sloppy but after I weather it up it should look ok I reckon.

Well, I am the kind of person that if I work on only 1 thing at a time, I will get seriously bored and never get it finished. So I am always working on at least 2 things at a time, and once it was as high as 10 things at one time. =D

Good work peeps, it all looks great so far.
