Chubias244 wrote:Someone actually painting raven guard with their pale skin? . I love the barricade, how did you do the posters?
P.s. from a while back, how can watching football be nothing special? We get hardly any in NZ.
It is a pet peeve of mine that the gw team always paints raven guard with normal skin tones . But the barricade posters are just sized down images I downloaded from a fellow dakkanaught. What did I say about football? I totally forgot haha
Paradigm wrote:The posters do add so much character! I believe they are simply images sized down in Word/Photoshop and printed out, although I could be wrong.
So I have just returned from a long weekend at Gencon, and I have to say this year was a total blast! I tried many new games, including a flames of war stalingrad battle, and got a decent amount of loot from the vendor hall. Also I had a bit of time today to try out my new dullcote lacquer that came in on thursday. I made the mistake of putting in on right out of the bottle instead of thinning it down with mineral spirits so I kinda messed up the scouts campaign badge shoulder pad, but nothing I couldn't fix up. I also pretty much finished the LSS base, minus the rim color and a second application of realistic water.
Now down to the nitty gritty, the scout. I will say I hate the scuplt on scouts, they look like hunchbacked freaks and their faces are terrible. Game wise they are awesome, so I am kinda stuck with them lol.
Also the base is coming along, minus some pva residue that got spread out by the realistic water I thought I gave it enough time to dry but evidently not. From what I can see up close it may not turn out too bad, hopefully the flyer above it will hit it.
Secondly I have a few pictures from the FoW Stalingrad game. It was a 3v3, with the Russians taking the horde approach vs the elite german army. I took command of the penal battalion and the 9 t34 platoon.
Spoiler:
My deployment zone
Glorious Russian side
Overview lengthwise of the table
I also got some sweet loot, including two free tank sprues from the stalingrad game, the DKoKFW t-shirt on day 2 surprisingly, two mk6 raven guard helmet sets for my raven guard army. and a box of centurions for 27 dollars off GW price! Sadly though FW lost my shipment so I was not able to get my RG venerable dreadnought, but I got free shipping since I ordered from the con and I hadn't paid for it yet so I couldn't be annoyed by it.
Sounds epic! Were you inspired to pick up any of the other games you tried?
Scout looks good, I agree about the sculpt though. You can fix them up a bit by kitbashing with the LSS scouts for some more varied poses, but I guess that depends on whether you want to model your speeders with passengers or not.
Any plans for the tanks? I see a Sherman and I think the other is some kind of Stug. Personally, I'd throw together a little diorama with them.

I may try my hand at FoW or another game system called savage worlds. But I may not with FoW because idk if I can afford a fourth gaming system lol. As for the tanks, it is a stug and a sherman, the diorama would be an interesting idea, I may have to draw up some plans.
That shirt is cool. The base for the land speeder is great. How did you get the water effect? I wish we had some sort of wargaming convention over here, closest is a model railway one.
Fer da Emprah!

It is actually a kit from secretweapons, but the water itself is from woodland scenics I believe. Sorry to hear that though about no wargaming conventions in New Zealand though, maybe they have some in Australia?
Thanks. I've seen similar ones online. I saw someone doing something similar with water below jet bikes, and he had ripples coming below it. Just an idea though.

What I've done for many of my Scouts is to use the Wolf Scout heads from the Space Wolf box and file or snip off the "severe" hair cuts. Waaay more character in those heads, I'd say and they're not blocky like the standard kit's noggin.

That is a good idea, I will have to look it up on how its done. For now though I kinda am stuck with the water on the first base lol.

That is an interesting idea! I will look into that for my next batch of scouts!
So I got some painting done today, finished the bases for the scouts bar any grass, or moss and of course the water. The arms will be painted separately so I can get at the details in the chest. I also started the crashed landspeeder tempest today. I rolled a d20 for a legion and it landed, of course, on the smurfs! So I will have a nice blue speeder wreak on my table lol
So I finally made the plunge and bought some AoS stormcast eternals. I've been wanting to buy some for a while now but I could never justify it, until my local GW has AoS as its monthly painting competition theme. So I decided on the paladin decimators because how are giant axes not cool as hell? Should I start another blog for Aos? Or just keep this one?
Oh I also got some more paint down on the Landspeeder tempest, expect some finished scouts tomorrow also.
Paradigm wrote: Those are cool! I'd actually stopped following the last couple of AoS releases, so I didn't realise those were out in multi-part.
Yeah the stormcasts have been getting a lot cooler!
Also, I finished up my first stormcast eternal. I am going for a ethereal type scheme, with a similar background to the legion of the damned. I went off of the gw stockholm scheme, but I don't think I got it quite right. I am still pretty happy with it though all around, including my first attempt at a meadow base. Tell me what you all think! Especially if it sucks and you have a better way of doing it
Paradigm wrote: Looks good! All I might suggest is a blue wash or pure white drybrush (very light), just to add a bit more contrast.
That is a good idea, though upon looking at the model and the process for the scheme I messed it up. Not super bad, but enough for me to be annoyed by it. So I will be fixing the other just primed models so hopefully this guy will just be an outlier
So I spent the day correcting my AoS stormcast eternals and even got the scheme down perfect I think. But I am pretty tired to take pictures so I will post those tomorrow. But I also built my three centurions today and loaded them out with grav cannons and amps, of course. I plan on running them with a lvl 2 libby in a drop pod.
So as I stated I believe I got the ethereal look down for the other four decimators, as you can see from the statue of liberty esque one on the far right, they look totally different and much better. It is a fast scheme that fits my love for the ethereal in the warhammer world. As I stated above, I think, I am going for a legion of the damned vibe with them. They pop in where needed, kill and get out. Right now they are fighting in the realm of life purging the daemons that have invaded it.
I also finished building the hull for my LSS, I plan on painting the scout separate from the LSS so I can get maximum details in.

Looking forward to the LSS storm. Nice work on the base.
Thanks! I am also looking forward to the LSS but I am going to make myself finish the scouts first before I work on it.
Paradigm wrote:Those are fantastic!
Thanks para! They are much better than the first one that looks like an angry male statue of liberty
Automatically Appended Next Post: So this just came in the mail today, and well all I can say that I am in love with this model. I haven't even put it together beyond dry fitting it and I am getting the urge to throw everything aside and get it all painted up. Instead I plan on using that feeling as a motivation to at least finish my scouts and their LSS before I even prime this bad boy. Seriously look at its banner! So cool /fanboying over

I've been giving it some though, with me now branching outside of what I state in my title. Is it now time to change it? Maybe something simple? Or punny?
Looks like a model worth fanboying over! I must get a FW Dread one of these days, but they're all so beautiful I wouldn't know which to pick! What arms did you go with?

The chaplain dread is also one of my favorites, but I am going with a dakka dread. So TL lascannon and missile launcher.
So I almost got the rest of the scouts done. I am waiting to apply the second layer of realistic water, paint the rims of the bases and matte down the shoulder pads. I am deciding to give a few models per squad the raid on kastorel-novem campaign badge to signify a more veteran status, I will most likely do this via a d10 etc system per squad. I am also surprised because the scouts sculpts grew on me a bit, especially the face on the black haired scout. I also got some work done on the scout's LSS, specifically the metal undercarriage and the white wing tips.
I also decided to change the name of the plog to something more generic and specify on the second part of it because I am painting a lot more than the DKoK nowadays.
Just went through the blog and i must say, your scouts look a lot better than mine
TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Personally I'd tone down the red/metal on the bolters just a tad, to emphasise the stealthy aspect.
Hmm maybe a khorne red, red wash, mephiston edge highlights? As for the metal I did go a bit heavy on the necron compound lol
War Kitten wrote:Just went through the blog and i must say, your scouts look a lot better than mine
Thanks man! Always glad to have new people enjoying my stuff.
Well today wasn't the most productive day. I was only able to get the leather, and edge highlights done on the LSS and finish off the bases of the scouts. Also I treated myself and went and finished the dreadnought head, I decided to go with pure white as I figured dreadnoughts are the epitome of veterans. But I realize how much I hate painting white on flat surfaces so I think I will keep his arms black and maybe the shin pads white. Though in the next week or two you will start to see the beginnings of my armies on parade board as I have ordered all of the necessary parts that I needed. Sadly my local train store didn't have the woodland scenics stuff I needed so I had to order it all online. But it has all been ordered and I will be trying to go full force trying to finish it before the end of october.
Its been a busy last month for me, school has started and I am taking a larger than normal credit load. This has cut into my hobby, but not too fear raven guard are fairly simple to paint! Yesterday the last bit of my Armies on Parade terrain/bits I needed showed up. I am going for a wetlands theme with the raven guard trying (and failing) to stop a nurgle sorcerer from raising plague zombies. I have also finished the body of the LSS and the scouts themselves, currently I am working on getting the board together and painting the assault marines + the scouts that go inside the LSS. As always constructive criticism is welcome!

Getting the assault marines and terrain ready for priming
Paradigm wrote: Scout squad and LSS are awesome all finished up! Looking forward to the board!
Thanks para! I bought the board and the border to put around it last night. So I will be sketching out the layout and probably hot gluing down the terrain later today/tonight
