@Thraxas: The yellow starts with a base of Iyanden Darksun (not sure what the current version is, I stocked up before it went OOP), which is then blended with Vallejo Ivory/Sand until the final highlight, a 1:1 mix of the yellow and ivory. I then hit that with good old Agrax Earthshade wash, and lightly dab at the places where the light would fall to allow the highlight to show through. It's a bit labour-intensive compared to my usual schemes, but for such nice minis I think it's worth it.

@Az: those are the Morannon Orc kit, which has a much more uniform and heavy look compared to the original Mordor Orc kit.Personally, I prefer them to the general Orc set, they are a bit larger and broader than them, which befits the elite of Mordor.

I might have to have a look into seeing if I can find some, especially now that we're in the twilight of the LotR range, and it's really time to get stuff before it's discontinued.

Very nice, kinda funny since I am starting a Dusk Raiders heresy army myself within the month lol. I would totally do IF if I didn't hate painting yellow.

@Az: I belive you can still get them (albeit in boxes of 12) from GW. Worth getting, they are very nice minis to paint up, and while there are one or two very odd poses they are fixable if you can be bothered.

Really like the Imperial fisters, and I'm not normaly a fan of Anvils Space marine parts.

How did I miss a full page of Heresy-Era Imperial Fists? ...actually, I think I know. Browser cache. Anyway, they look great - and really the main way that Imperial Fists' bright yellow armour can look good to me is with heavy weathering like what you've done there. Great work!

I really don't like the consistency of the current GW Base paints though, so I may have to look elsewhere and just try and match it to a Vallejo or Revell one.

No, I didn't realise that either until I looked it up. Apparently, he died on Drashin, and Lysander refused promotion so it went to Hagen (Captain of the 5th)

Ha! Can't actually find anything on who replaced
Hagen online, it might be in SoT though. And as it seems to be rather recent, you could just sod it and use Hagen as Company Captain and say it was before Pugh's death.

Ok, another update, bit of a mish-mash of what I've knocked out over the last few days.

The first Imperial Fist of the second Sternguard squad. This squad is only 5 men, so I should get through them fast enough. The armour is also different, closer to MkVI than MkIII like the others are. His pose has obscured the lower half of the model a bit, and the light wasn't kind on the yellow today, so I'll take some better pics when I can (can't get to the camera until Monday now).




And some LotR, nothing fancy but just adding a bit to each of my main armies.

For Gondor, it's these OSgiliath Veterans, converted with the odd sash/rag and some hand-me-down weapons:

It's a shame GW didn't do Grond, the Hammer of the Underworld. That would've been an awesome siege mini to go with your Orcs.

Nah. You've got really fast turnover, I think you're certainly allowed to dream big in terms of armies
