Terminators and Dreadnoughts are 40k at its most awesome, so since we recently had a pile of Termies, time for some Dreads! First up, Bjorn the Fell-Handed, a legendary figure among the Wolves and among the most fearsome warriors of the 41st Millennium, armed with Trueclaw and an Assault Cannon: Next up, a SW Venerable Dreadnought, armed with the axe and shield combo that I've always found to be exceptionally cool. Much less blinged up than Bjorn as I envisioned him as a former Wolf Guard only recently interred into the Dreadnoughts sarcophagus, hence the open face and grey and black iconography. The two together. Funny enough, desite the fact I've had a ton of Dreads over the years, this is the first time ever I've had two in the same army scheme! And finally, on a different note, an test model for an upcoming commission, a SWA Ork team: That's all for now, thanks for looking and stay tuned for more!

Those Dreadnoughts are looking nice. I like how you've only put the blood near to the weapons, it's very easy to just spatter it everywhere, but that's not how it would work. Makes the model feel more "real" in my opinion. Well done Para!

As a Dreadnought fan, I am really impressed by those models! Your gritty style suits models like this very well, as something as old as a Dreadnought should look like it's been through a bit.

Thanks guys!
Today, how much wolf would a space wolf space if a space wolf could space wolf? About 4, apparently...
First up, a trio of Wolf Guard. The axe and PF/ SB guys will fill out a shooty squad with some of the previous lot while the TH guy is destined for a pure CC squad, the rest of which are coming up soon:
And stepping up to lead the force, alongside Bjorn of course, comes Njal Stormcaller, the Tempest That Walks, converted to open up the pose and give a bit more of a Gandalfy 'You shall not pass' vibe. I reckon the sculpt is possibly still a little busy, but there's not a lot I could really do about that!
That's all for now, a few more Wolves still in the pipeline as I round out this small force (2 termie squads, 2 Dreads and Njal isn't exactly world-beating, but it's a solid foundation and is starting to look damn cool) and after that, I'm sure there'll be something a bit different for everyone who's starting to get sick of the amount of wolf wolfing in here!
Incidentally, if anyone UK-based has a Logan Grimnar model (preferably the new one from the sleigh kit, but I could go for the old one) they'd be willing to part with for money or some commission work, PM me as he's proving hard to get at a decent price on ebay and he'd fit right into this army.
Thanks for looking, any thoughts welcome!

Njal is really benefitting from his new pose - he's looking so much better than his usual mould. Great painting as well, I love your take on the Wolves, makes them more menacing with a darker blue-grey.

Yeah, I'm pleased with the repose. The model itself is cool, but the stock pose just makes it a big, busy block that only looks good from the front and back. By adding a more open pose, I think I've just added more 3D-ness and dynamism that helps him a lot.

Many older sculpts suffer from that problem. Rather than making a functionally good sculpt, they'd opt for the put as much crap on there as possible route, so there's so much going on it looks characterful. It works to an extent, but doesn't work well when you sit down to actually paint it well.

Thats actually more of a problem with newer sculpts than the older ones Warboss Dakka.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. I don't quite know how to express it. But your space Wolves have a real muderously cold feel to them. They look really good.

And so we go from the heroic legends of Fenris to the gruesome villains spilling forth from the Warp, fuelled by dark gods and the hatred of ten millennia of betrayal...
Some of you might remember the Nurgle Possessed Marine I did a few months ago; while looking at this month's White Dwarf and the new Plague Marines I decided he needed some comrades, and while I'm a little short on funds to grab some of the new ones, that wasn't going to stop me. Between some Forge World, Anvil, CSM and other random bits box stuff, I put together a small group of Plague Marines:
Nice and quick to paint up, and another exercise in maximum grime and texture. I think they look like rather a revolting bunch, all things considered, and suitably Nurgley to act as Plague Marines.
That's all for now, thanks for looking, and do let me know what you think! And for those put off by all the Heresy, fear not, I've got something pretty cool coming up on the Loyalist front rather soon!

They'd easily pass on the Plague Marine front - absolutely disgusting (in the best kind of way ) . I'm trying to get rid of my Death Guard from the starter box at the moment, but finding no luck. I might have to paint it up, so these models are a great help in deciding what to do. I've never been too fond of bright green DG, muted tones always suited them much better.

Ta chaps! Of course, liking Plague Marines is HERESY, so I've got no choice but to get crusading! Good job this chap is here!
Fun fact; in over 5 years of painting Marines, I've done at least one Marine from every First Founding chapter, but never done a Black Templar outside of the Deathwatch! After doing a conversion/kitbash BT Emperor's Champion last week (which I didn't show here, but he might show up soon), I had a look through the handful of readily available Templar models still around, and while I couldn't find Helbrecht or Grimaldus for a decent price, I did manage to get this Sword Brethren model who I think is up there with the coolest Space Marine sculpts now. Only conversion work was adding the Reliquary atop the backpack and swapping a bolt pistol for a helm.
He's a tad more clean and colourful than I normally go for, but I think as a display piece that helps as it creates clear focal points and draws the eye, which is more important here than on a gaming piece. The basing was a bit of an experiment but one I'm happy with, using a spare plinth (read: glass jar lid) as the actual base gave it a presence my diorama attempts often lack, so I may do a few more little vignettes like this in the near future. Probably also some more Templars in general as it turns out they're awesome!

Thanks for looking as always, C&C welcome!

One way to get good at painting cloth? Paint a Black Templars army. Subtle yet effective conversion for a special Character, his face is especially great - where's the head from if you remember?
