The idea is to post ONE picture of a painting or non-miniature sculpture that you appreciate.
I'll start with the new set of diamond prints from Dave Correia, available through Zerofriends gallery. http://zerofriends.com/

The Last Dragon by Brian Waugh. Bought a limited numbered print when Albacon was still going at Glasgow Central Hotel. That's many years ago. Yes I'm that old!
I nearly bought the original when he put it up for sale, regret not doing so to this day.
Sorry for the poor quality pic, but the glass front wont let me take a decent picture. Hey it has a dragon in it, that's wargaming!
Cheers
Andrew
PS if anyone knows Brian or who has the original picture I'm still looking to buy it.

Wait, so the mods are going to remove only SOME of the non-wargame related images? Posts 2 & 3 are most assuredly NOT photo's of wargaming or miniatures, yet they were pointedly left when images of art were deleted.
Ok...whatever. Might as well just delete the thread then.

It is fine to post non-wargaming images. It is not fine to upload them to Dakka's gallery.

Like I said, there are images that are obviously not wargame related left up by mods. There are a plethora of threads in this forum with nonwargaming images in them.
If the rules are going to be selectively applied, it really would be best just to delete the thread.

If you quote the posts in question you can see they are being hosted on other sites.
Was your image hosted elsewhere or did you add it to Dakka's gallery before posting?

The images that have been left alone are those that are hosted elsewhere and linked here. Those that were removed were attached to posts using the 'Attachments' tab, which uploads them to the Dakka Gallery.
We have no problem with people posting non-related images when they are appropriate to the thread. We just don't allow them to be Attached to posts, because we don't want them in the Gallery.

There's so many pieces of art out there that elicit some kind of response for me, but probably one of the more poignant is this:
What makes it even more so is the story that goes along with it, that this monk did not make a sound whilst burning, and was "perfectly calm" right up until he actually died.

This is from an ancient church on the island of Torcello off the coast of Venice. The island was once a thriving port town but is now almost completely abandoned. It's a quiet, lonely place and I felt like I was the only one there. I walked into this church and saw this amazing mosaic staring down at me. I've never seen a single image affect me like this before. I sat down in one of the pews and looked at it for a long time. The singular image stares back at you through time, a survivor from another era. It's considered one of the finest Byzantine mosaics outside of Constantinople. ( St. Mark's in Venice and Ravenna being the other contenders.) But I must admit, this one you kind of have to be there.

La Pasionaria statue in Glasgow, Scotland
Dolores Ibaruri served as inspiration to artist Arthur Dooley[125] who was commissioned in 1974 by The International Brigade Association of Scotland to create a monument commemorating the 2,100 British volunteers of the International Brigade, ordinary men and women who joined the republican forces in the Spanish Civil War in their fight against Franco's regime. The monument’s inscription is dedicated to the 534 volunteers who died in the conflict, 65 of them from Glasgow, which is where the monument is situated.[126]
The statue was funded by money raised by Trade Unionists and Labour movement supporters.[127] However, the £3000 raised was insufficient to cover the artist's plans for the statue to be cast in bronze. Instead, an armature was welded together from scrap iron and covered in fibreglass. The final version of the monument is a stylised female figure, representing Dolores Ibarruri, in a long dress, standing with legs apart and arms raised.[127] On the plinth, Dooley carved Dolores' famous slogan - 'better to die on your feet than live forever on your knees'. The phrase was first used by the Mexican revolutionary leader, Emiliano Zapata, but Ibarruri gave it new meaning when she used it during the miners strike in Asturias, Spain, in 1934.
Over time, the B listed statue fell into extremely poor condition and this generated criticism from the public, elected officials and trades unionists.[128] A restoration project was carried out between April 2010 and August 2010 and the monument was re-dedicated on 23 August 2010 by Leader of the Council, Bailie Gordon Matheson and General Secretary of the Scottish Trades Union Congress, Grahame Smith in the presence of Thomas Watters, 97, a surviving International Brigade veteran. Thomas Watters, 97, was a veteran of the Scottish Ambulance Unit, which worked at the front line on the battlefields of Spain to aid wounded fighters and volunteers from across the world.

Can architecture count as art?
If so, I'd like to nominate Sacre Coeur in Paris. Sure Notre Dame has a lot more glory and fame, but Sacre Coeur owns it for overall placement and impact, imo.

Pretty much anything by Jean "Moebius" Giraud is enough to get me off. No individual piece really stands out as the best for me, everything he did was absolutely magical. Definitely the artist that has inspired me most.
Similarly, Yoshitaka Amano is a close second, and everything he does is gorgeous.
