The first time mine snapped off (some time in 1991, I think), I just glued them back on. It was only when I refurbished may remaining Land Raider kit* that I decided to be a little more ambitious.
* At one point in 2nd edition, I had three, but I got rid of them. I eventually got a replacement from a friend who had got out of 40k and was clearing out. It had been part of his harlequins force, so of course I had to cleanse it of the alien filth and return it to the Omnissiah's grace.

Very nice rescue. As people have said nice find on the Spyre, I never got a chance to play with them but they looked so damn cool especially mom . The LR is a great score.

The rails that went around the old Rhino were the easiest thing to break back then imho, my LR sponsons were fine but that rail snapped if you looked at it funny.

I just cut to the chase and never glued those rails on. Should still be in my bits box I think.

I replaced those thin plastic ones with brass wire rails back in the day (it helps that I didn't get into 40k as a kid, but as a 19 year old (because 40k didn't really exist before I was 19), with a few years modelmaking skills behind me).
I dug a box of old harlequins out of the shed. I'll see about getting pictures of them. It's mostly from blisters, but there's a chunk of them from the box (harlequin box), I think.

I've thought about doing that too, but at the moment all my old Rhinos are shelf queens, so breaking the grab rails or aerials isn't an issue.

I made the mistake of gluing those rails on new and old rhinos for the "nostalgia," when Gits was generous enough to send me some rhinos.
That was a big mistake considering I moved from the U.S to Sweden. So much regluing...

Another salvo of blasts from the past for Flashback Friday
Speaking of Oldschool rhinos, there's All sorts of weirdness going on with my vintage transports. Not a rail in sight, just the remnants.
My Oldschool Ragnar from back when he used to be blonde! Complete with copy-paper printed banners all painted up.
The count tries his hand at managing the Washington Deadskins.
Does anyone remember the artwork in 2nd Ed. Codex Eldar that inspired this basing of my Avatar?
A bit of classic metal. Goffik Rokk!
GorkaMorka... Speaks for itself really.Yikes!
It's behind you! 3rd ed. Nids screamer killer fex based on Ol' One Eye
Easily the ugliest Elf Queen ever.
That's enough of my spamming up the thread. Looking forward to seeing more from everyone else too.

That's the in focus shot of the base. That marine is smokin'.
It'd be nice to see if anyone else has miniatures inspired by classic artwork. Bit tricky I suppose when many of the character art pieces were based on the sculpts of the miniatures.

Mark Gibbons always did my favourt 40K art...no questions asked. I didn't go with the clever basing, but I did do this great mini a couple years ago. Shame it's such a turd in 8th edition right now!
Glancing at this pic now, I think I'll go back and touch up a lot of the bits on this guy...

Such a great thread.
I see quite a bit that I don't necessarily consider 'old' or a 'flash back'. I started shortly after 2nd edition was released, so for me a flash back would be anything from RT, 2nd, 3rd and 4th edition.
I don't really consider things from 2008 / 5th edition and forward old since a lot the models and terrain from then are still available and still in predominant use.
I"m curious... What edition(s) / era do you consider to be vintage?

I think anything that has good memories attached and a sense of nostalgia fits in here.
I too started in 2nd ed but for many players 4/5th was their starting point so thats nostalgia for them
I also try and keep the thread open to non GW games so old battletech, board games etc more than welcome.

Sold every book, game and model from Battletech. Except the Players Handbook for some reason. My group started with the first game with the 12 cardboard mechs. Loads of fun...but there is only so much room for miniatures.

I've found the BTech minis to be the easiest to store, as they're all roughly similar in size. I've got around 400-ish 'Mechs, and about 200-ish vehicles. They all fit in two big Army Transport bags and one smaller one. Far more compact than any 40K stuff I own.

I only got into Battletech quite recently, maybe about four years ago. So it doesn't have those same flashback Friday vibes for me. It's all still a bit new to me and honestly the decades of backstory and universe building was a bit daunting. I don't think I'll ever be one of the true Battletech nerds that has a wealth of knowledge on every era from following the progress of the game through the years. I read a bunch of the core novels and had a go at writing some Battletech fiction but still so much of it all seems so new to me.

I still have all the first run omni mechs and maybe 30-50 assorted inner sphere mechs in a box somewhere. A chunk of shelf space still holds all the rules and a number of the novels.
We spent a lot of time playing, more then 40k at the time back in the 80s/90s.
My first post in this thread was mechs. The other ones I took at the time were a bit blurry, or I’d post more.

This was a nice flashback for me - spent last night modelling up some METAL!
Bought a WFB Kroxigor, cut off the axe and repositioned and pinned the arms to re-assign him as a Blood Bowl player.

Really love the look of those old metal necrons. Nice and chunky.
And just to add some support to the other side in that righteous vintage table shot...
Sold these guys recently. So if you were the happy buyer I hope they're serving the emperor with dignity and valour.
Nice to see active bloodbowl chopping of old metals going on too. I like it when we're not too precious about the old ones not to do stuff like that when needed. Fair play for getting that fella on the field.

Oh I bought him off ebay specifically to turn him into a Blood Bowl player. Going to cut a terminator shoulder pad into shape and add it to him for armour, because:
1. It's about the only place you can put team colours/numbers
2. The idea of these monstrous creatures getting kitted up for a ball game, strapping on pads etc, is completely ridiculous and exactly the sort of cartoony effect that I love about Blood Bowl.
Got some Anvil resin shoulder pads coming for the Skinks/Saurus which I am hoping are going to be a suitable scale.
