It's always fun seeing the old Space Crusade Dread and orc boar boyz. Thanks for sharing, both of you.

I wanted a female Ministorium character, and that model fits the bill nicely. I think she was a specialist games release, so probably not the commonest mini to see in the wild.

No problem. The old SC dreadnought is a surprisingly decent sculpt with a modern paint job (which mine isn't ). I keep hoping that FW's HH series will produce a modern version.

Makari is my hero!

Love the messy bases too. It's like a no make-up selfie honest portrait of an old-school orks army. Feels like home.

I found these guys in a box. Their bases had copyright GW 1992 on them
Going to strip and repaint them and add them into the Waaaagh.

Anyone else think the painboy looks more like a mekboy?

I have these to paint for the comp, needed to add base adapters as you can clearly see their feet hanging over

I don't think I've contributed to this thread but I'm painting up a squad of Fire Dragons from the 90s(?). They're the ugly ducklings of the fire dragon sculpts but I still like them (looking at you Elbows ).

Those Fire Dragons and the ugly Scorpions (and ugly Reapers, etc.) were from the early 2000's in the GW dark period. I don't think they were quite in the 90's (if they were it would have been late '99?) I can look them up sometime.

Nothing in that release touched the awfulness of the Striking Scorpions but most of those releases were subsequently re-released again quite quickly as they simply weren't very good minis.

It was an exceptionally quick turn around considering we have Warp Spiders from 1994 still in production.

I found one of my old =I= scale space marines in a box while rummaging through old gaming stuff.

He needed a new hands and weapons. So I gave him a new storm bolter from leftover vehicle parts, and a thunder hammer from a GK NDK.

Talk about "Scale creep" though ...

On my “projects that are never going to happen, but float around the back of my mind” list is to make a scenic base for my old Nagash to bring him up to scale to the new one. Big oval flight base, one of those arcane ruin/magic stands, a mess of ghosty spirits. Of course, with that much time, money and effort, why not just grab the new one? Besides the humor and novelty of bringing out the classic death clown to lead my forces of Death.

That Farseer is amazing! How old is it?

Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like soup. Now you put soup in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put soup into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now soup can flow or it can crash. Be soup, my friend.

Just from a quick google search, a website says it was released in 1999 with a slew of other necromunda characters and ran up to 2004.

Because anyone can grab the new one. It takes inspiration and dedication and a certain wry humour to field the death clown. You know it has to be done and if you don't either nobody will or someone else will and then if you do it'll fewl like a sad knockoff and not the original awesome idea you know you've had for years.

If time and money were infinite...

While I do paint one or two units a year for my undead army, that’s greater then the number of games of AoS I get in over the same period of time. So when I think of where my hobby dollar goes, the ~$40 (one balewind votex, a box of spirit hosts) could be spent better elsewhere.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s on the list of things to do. But the closer of my FLGS doesn’t have any AoS going on, and if I’m going to drive the hour down to the one that has a scene, it’s probably to play 40k.

I am a super old school roleplayer (basic D&D from 1977...) BUT! That poster on the box of the first plastic marines is what made me start 40k. It had/has such great emotion in it.
