I never got the power plant as it came in an expansion box I didn't want, but man I tried to get that command tower thingy. Once got within a few seconds of getting it on eBay, but got distracted and missed the end of the auction.
Do you remember what it was called?

Is the power plant the thing that came in the expansion set Storm of Vengeance. Arounf this time White Dwarf had card building in them like a ruined chapel, Gorkamorka watchtower and Eldar prism.

H.B.M.C. , it had the very simple title of Imperial Guard Command Tower.
Howard, the power plant was Storm of Vengeance. The barricades in the right of the photo were in the WD tie in issue. It was the same month the excellent metal Scouts were released.
I still have a unmade chapel and Gorkamorka tower. Unfortunately the fort had to go due to space (or lack of) issues.

I have those barricades, and the chapel... and the Eldar thingy. Still in the WD's they came in. Never built 'em.
Thanks alphaecho for the name. Doubt I'll find one though...

|
TGIF everyone!
Earlier in this thread, I posted pictures of RT, 2nd, and 3rd edition tactical squads. While not quite as flashback-y, I just based and took formal shots of my 4th edition Battle of Macragge marines.
While new-fangled to me, they are on the old side in absolute terms.

Lovely stuff. I particularly like the flagstone effect on the bases. I spent ages agonising over mine because it is difficult to make them look like stone as they are flat and un-textured so in the end I went for stone colour, but yours look superb.

Thanks filbert. Glad you like them!
I didn't want to carve the bases, or even stick anything on - I wanted to keep the original mini unmolested. But painting the flagstones was surprisingly easy. It's a Codex Grey base coat (old GW paint) with a dark wash (Vallejo Umber something) to draw the lines, which was then retouched with Codex Grey because I just couldn't get the lines thin or straight enough! I then just added a thin line of Celestra Grey to two edges of each stone to give the impression of depth. I was going to give the whole thing a Nuln Oil coat, but in the end I think that would have been too much.

OK, I missed last Friday, but thought of this thread today as I was out priming.
The newest thing in my to-prime box was a spare brightlance, sprue dated 2004. The rest predates that by at least a decade. Not sure about how old the homagaunt is, but the rest is vintage RT.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekends all.

Those are my favourite type of Predator tank, everything that's come after has been a pale shadow in comparison. I simply love that classic design. The forgeworld approximation is still on my Wishlist I just can't justify it though when I don't think I would fit a predator in my space marine list. You've done a cracking paint job on it though. What kind of state was she in when you got her off eBay?
The Deathwing terminator looks top notch too. As does the snap fit marine, I'm guessing he's one of the ones from the second edition starter kit, though I also believe they were later available as a 10 man box set seperately, and one was given away as a freebie with WD?

Back in the day my old GW store had a cabinet with rotating glass shelves.
The mechanism had a slight stutter each rotation.
Someone had painted up one of those hormagaunts for display when they first came out and it spent the rest of it's life with a 'realistic attack action' as it struggled to maintain balance.
I'm pretty sure that the physics involved in making the wobble last for almost a full rotation then stop for a fraction of a second before it fell over, right itself, get jolted once again and continue ad infinitum was something quite unexplainable.

All my hormagaunts from that era are based on slottas on top of a couple of 2p coins. Only way I could get even 50% standing up rate on them.

I liked those old metal hormagaunts way better than the plastic ones. I glued a whole bunch of teeny fishing weights on the underside of the base and that made them a lot more sturdy.. and heavy.

Some more GW terrain that I rediscovered in the Loft of Delights.
Now, these ones were from a company licensed by GW and were released in 95 along with a Fantasy Coach House. They are multi layer coloured card and came with balsa wood for the ceiling supports and window bars.
They were previewed at Games Day that year along with a 40K bunker that was a copy of one of the ones that featured as studio terrain. Unfortunately, that one was never released. Shame because they were excellent kits.

TGIF!
Today I have some old metal swooping hawks for you all. 4 are new paint, and two just got a touch-up pass to match their fellows. One had a little helmet work done a couple of decades ago that I now regret doing. Harkening back to the discussion about hormogaunts a few posts up, dynamic metal models and balance are not friends. Basing these guys was an exercise in finding the biggest rocks in my collection that would fit.
Enjoy your weekends all!
