AG is advertising his nominated miniatures for the Beasts of War annual awards, not surprised to see the Kum riders and Yojimbo among those short-listed

So they are advertising as being nominated for an award by a website which they in turn sponsor / use as one of their main advertising channels?

Round and round and round and round it goes.

to be fair the nominations were based on what the BoW audience (and anybody else who decided to vote as it was not a 'closed' process) voted for,

and includes companies that don't have a 'special relationship' or even advertise on BoW as well

Indeed.. such as GW, who consider sites like BoW to be the enemy and will probably send them a cease and desist for having a 40k and WFB picture on the poll

It certainly isn't a surprise to me that the most popular games and models are showing up in the poll, though. Infinity is a great game, it has great minis and it has a great painter on call. But there is, I admit, a cause and effect here. Plenty of games get coverage on BoW but there aren't too many companies who can put out enough new releases and generate enough excitement for that coverage to be more than a news post. IMHO only the 'bigger' games put out enough stuff to warrant themed weeks or to come up over and over again during the weekender etc. Thus, if you were a fan of those games, you would probably go to BoW because you know that it's a good place to get content for the game(s) you love. So inevitably, when a poll like this is created, there are going to be a lot more..say.. Infinity players nominating Infinity and then voting for Infinity.. than there are, say, Deepwars fans.

..although, as it happens, I didn't vote for Infinity, at least not in the sci-fi category. Ignoring O:I, this year has just been another normal (e.g. good) year for the folks at CB. But I think that O:I and N3 (whether we get it late 2014 or early 2015) will launch them into a really great 2015. So unless Mantic can kick things up a notch or GW can turn into..a completely different company.. the sci-fi category for 2015 is already in the bag

Yeah the awards even had ospreys ronin game in the historicals options and that's certainly nothing to do with a sponsorship.

I think infinity will take a category or two though.

I found this bit of news on the DataSphere

To recap, according to Bostria, with a few annotations from me (about dates):

- There was a 1 week printing delay
- Books are due to arrive at CB HQ on the 12/12/14. (this coming Friday)
- Shipping from CB to distributors/stores/direct pre-orders will happen over the next week (Presumably the 15th, as we have heard previously.)
- Outside of that timeframe, CB obviously cant guarentee [sic] when books will begin arriving in the different countries.
- Any PDF version of the rules will not be released for at least 3 months after the release of the book, but thats at CBs discression and the time frame could be pushed out further for pdf release. So if you want rules ASAP, i highly recommend getting what will be the awesome books. (so the PDF version will be available sometime around the Ides of March? How propitious.)

And this is from the Australian Facebook group. Somebody from CB should have made this info generally available too, don't you think?

Yup, an announcement on the main website at least. Communication in general or lack there of does seem a problem on CB's part.

At this point, all that's happened is:
1. On the pre-orders, the tentative release date was specified as December 8th.
2. That tentative release date has not been update or replaced by an official release date.

If CB were operating on a "We'll give you an official release date when we have the boxes of books repackaged and ready to ship," then this is the same "No official news to report" situation that we'd be in right now.

Absolutely nothing against carlost1t3th here... however

You kids and your damned internet!
We all expect up to the minute updates on things, but just give them a break.
It's coming & yeah, we might need to buy the book or wait 3 months.
I'm not saying they have graciously bestowed their rules for free upon us. However they deserve some profit from the release of a new book.
In the long run will it hurt the market for Infinity? Absolutely not.
Tournament/gameplay enthusiasts will bide their time, let their wallets grow fat with cash & grab new releases when the rules are free to everyone.
Those buying minis for the hobby/collectors end won't mind if they're behind a bit on the rules.

Besides, I'm sure someone will post their own scans of the book itself when it comes out.
It has never been difficult to find a GW book through unscrupulous channels. Infinity has become popular enough that I'd wager someone on the interwebs will grab their rulebook and a scanner to share it with us all.

BTW, I did obediently pre-order my copy. If it takes an extra week to get to me in lovely New Jersey that's not a problem for me.
Chill out folks; CB has a minor delay due to an issue with their printers.

I didn't take it personally don't worry.

Ive just noticed it seems quite common with CB to not update customers or clear up confusion when it arises. People were confused about the number of copy's available in Icestorm for example and taking 5 or 10 mins to write up a an announcement on the website or the offical forums saying there will be this many copies available or more if needed, or posting to say that the book will be delayed can be done very quickly and would leave fans better informed and more satisfied that they know whats going on.

I dont really care that the book is late personally. But I think communication is somewhere that CB could improve with minimal effort but that would greatly improve customer satisfaction.

It's why I don't follow their Facebook or Twitter updates. They update every nonsense, except the important information. It's absurd.

Whoa Absolutionist. No need for that.

The actual shipping date, meh, we won't see it here in the USA until mid-January anyway, so I do not expect my copy until the second half of next month. Now our Australian friends may not see it until Valentine's Day (a little sign of CB's amor for the Antipodeans ) and this is, I suspect, part of the reason for the delay in releasing the PDF versions. They want to make sure the actual N3 books are globally distributed before they make the rules available on-line.

People will speculate in the absence of hard information, like we see in this thread. A quick notice puts an end to so much of that. And it would be nice to be able to tell people when to look for the PDFs too. In my group we like the digital stuff. We all use our tablets for rules queries and army building etc...

I hope that pdf delay doesn't get any longer. I understand why they're doing it (to sell the hardback rulebook) and respect that but one of the reasons I'm considering getting into this game is because the rules will be free to try out. Of course, it wouldn't be any issue if the full rules had been put into Icestorm but that ship has long sailed. I'm not a fan of the disclaimer about the 3 month delay being at the whim of CB and may be extended as they see fit. I'd prefer if they just made a decision ahead of time even if that decision was 6 months.

Yep. Element Games have put the shipping date to the 17th now, as well.

I figure the worst possible time for the book to arrive for me would be the day after Christmas.

So you can all thank my bad luck if it turns into a Boxing Day present.

That looks nice. I can only hope they release the army builder ASAP, before Christmass if possible. Atleast you have up to date guys and can play with the N3 spoiled rules.

The 3 month delay, while I get it, is not good for customer moral. People started this game based on free rules. A delay, builder wait, then a longer wait for free rules will kill the steam Icestorm built up if they dont hurry.

I too received the email from Element Games, saying 17th for the books being posted but sooner if that is possible.

Out of interest, can anyone remember what the delay was between 2nd edition rulebook and the rules appearing online for PDF download?

I'm sure that the Paradiso rules didn't appear instantly, there was a delay although I can't remember how long (perhaps couple of months?)

Yes, somewhere around a couple of months. 3 months to give CB time to sell a decent amount of the new edition instead of give it away from free is a decent time table.
If people really want to support the company, then they can buy the new rules up front.

Otherwise, wait.

I read a funny stat somewhere about buying percentages of the books compared to total player numbers, it was remarkably high.

I wonder if the search function/rules on the website will update faster? I seem to remember that happening with Paradiso also.

Normal it is a lttle under 2 months, not really much longer this time. But, we live in a world where poeple change the channel during commercial becouse they take to long and are boring, modern tech seem to not teach patients.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

I think the word was at the start of January. It also looks like Clippy is back.

@Noir: "patients" (pun intended or reffering to patiance).
