Time for a better foam case.
Seriously, I'm not kidding. Never haf much of an issue with that sort of model.
The join at the back is huge and if your foam is breaking metal parts in half, it's way past time to get some decent foam.

A friend of mine just pointed me towards this beauty: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/2013/08/15/frontline-gamings-reviews-tablewars-display-tower/
The link to actually purchase the case is directly above the video. A bit pricey, but looks nice and sturdy. I'm hoping to pick one up in the near future.

I'm personally not a fan of that solution because a lot of models, even metal models, have thin ankles. Even a metal models thin ankle will gradually bend with repeated attaching/removing from a magnetised tray if there's enough force to properly hold it in place.
Like, the model on this page is a great example. On a magnetised tray solution, eventually that leg is going to snap, probably near the ankle/rock. It may look nice a strdy from that zoomed in photo, but remember how slender Infinity models really are. I completely bent my Ragik hackers ankle just putting him on his base.

That Fraacta's ankle looks rather thick. Shouldn't be too much of a problem. The rock also seems to be part of the model (yet again) so it's a rather straightforward pin. The 'wings', I assume are like Ko Dali and the starter Fraacta, and so they're one piece; they're surprisingly sturdy.
I don't own the Ragik hacker specifically (though I own the other two old ones), and the toe-rock connection looks unusually thin with a pinching weakpoint there. The Fraacta at least has her full ball of the foot on the rock.
I'm happy to see dynamic models in general. It's an AD troop that's in an aggressive hustle rather than mid-drop like many other AD troops.

I see what you mean there too.
While things will be anchored to the bottom & won't fall to the top if it is inverted... Stuff can slide around on the surface unless you have a sort of berth for each model especially since infinity minis are metal.
I would like to combine magnetized bases with some sort of foam partitioning to keep everything orderly.
That case has lots of potential though. I will keep it in mind.

Pick the magnetized models up by the base itself, not by the model. Sometimes you need to take a second to do so, but I've never had problems with my magnetic case. Saying that, I'm seriously tempted to pick up the new GW Skirmish case, as it is just such a perfect size for slinging in a backpack, and should hopefully hold all my Infinity and Firestorm stuff; my current case is a Really Useful plastic box, A4 sized, and is kind of awkward to carry anywhere.

I've got two Tablewars minicases for my Aleph and CA. They are fantastic and if you're willing to pay the price I'd take them over any foam solution any day.
I've got to admit though that some models (looking at you Mk.1 Doctor) need to be handled with care when removing them from the trays, otherwise the material will eventually wear down and break. So far no trouble though.

Personally I can get bases that will stick to magnets for a penny each as most modern British pennies stick to magnets. I have never seen washers for a penny each though so the pennies work out cheaper.

So, Beasts of War just announced that their next Bootcamp weekend will be an Infinity one, in June.
As those are geared towards people starting out (Carlos will be there to teach the rules) it probably is not too interesting for those in this thread, but Warren did say that the June dates coincide with an Infinity 'thing' they will be doing at the same time.
The Infinity weeks only happen when something major is launched, like Operation Icestorm, so I wonder what is coming in June? Is it too soon for the new book?

Oh joy, another production bottleneck incoming!

It's not interesting to me because Beasts of War is bad. It's bad for Infinity, it's bad for players, and it's bad for companies like Corvus Belli to hitch their horse to these pathetic web "news blogs".
EVERY TIME, without fail, that Beasts of War does something for Infinity "geared towards people starting out" it ends up with huge issues finding models in the US.
And not necessarily related just to Beasts of War, but every bloody month when it comes to "previews" Corvus Belli would be better off just emailing the pictures to random email addresses than it is to expect some kind of schedule from any of these crummy blogs.
but Warren did say that the June dates coincide with an Infinity 'thing' they will be doing at the same time.

It's most likely the RPG launching its Kickstarter. It's been known for some time that they are doing a Kickstarter and that it was to start "summer 2015".
Is it too soon for the new book?
It better be, because quite frankly they still have a lot to clean up from the N3 launch.
But as it stands, "Acheron Falls", the new book which was SUPPOSED to have come out not this past Christmas but when the Infinity Art Book(which I still feel like they should have offered refunds for. "Coffee table collection of concept art" my buttocks) did and was further bumped for them to produce 3rd Edition, is slated for this holiday season.
Whether or not "Acheron Falls" will actually release then? Eh. 50/50 chance.

I actually agree BoW is bad. Awful, even. How anyone can stand any of those guys for more than a couple minutes / fast forwarding through a clip *while muted*, I will never understand.
OTOH, the fact that their productions lead to product availability issues means they are, apparently, pushing sales (and generally, at least some of that will stick. Once you get someone over the initial apprehension, Infinity tends to be quite addictive ).
Besides, we *really* need updated versions of the 'starting out' youtube vids they had for 2nd edition; those things are the best initial teaching tool bar none.
Look, I don't get how those buffoons are still even in business either, but apparently they do grow the community. This is a good thing, Kan. And really, you know you don't *have* to watch them, right? You know you can just wait a couple days more and you'll have a nice overview of all releases on CB's own FB page, right?
Seriously, these two things kinda tick me off, too - but is it really that much of an issue to just let those things be and wait for the actual releases?
I'm okay with all the rubbish they need to get publicity - growth is good for them, which is good for the game. And this rubbish doesn't have jack to do with the game. So honestly, what the feth is the actual issue here? It's not that hard to close a browser tab every once in a while, for feth's sake...

Virtually all my minis for the last 10+ years have been based & cased using cookie sheets and rare earth magnets and carried around in mailer style flat boxes so they can be stacked on shelves and I can label the sides so I know what game/army is inside. I can magnetize and box an army for the same cost as a single foam tray and I've never had an issue with models sliding around or snapping at the ankle, even my Nomads Hellcat and Aleph Ekdromoi have been fine. I wouldn't take them flying and if you dropped the box they'd probably fly around the box and get damaged, but regular transport to and from the FLGS and local cons has pretty much had no issues, I used to get a LOT more broken figures, bent swords, and rubbed off paint using GW foam and army tansport pluck foam. I highly recommend the tablewar magnetic tray style of transport

I really like watching their vids, so I guess it's a subjective thing?
What I will say though is that I think BoW are really a force for good in this industry. As far as blogs go, there aren't many places which offer such up to date coverage of such a wide area of the wargaming industry; I can look on there for everything from the latest 40k releases, to Perry historicals, Kickstarter and everything else. But most of all I love their enthusiasm, and how genuine is is. There is no sniping at people or companies or pointless negativity, other than to make constructive criticism.
And they've managed to do this in the face of some strong opposition. After GW stopped them from entering Games Day with their cameras, and were also reputedly involved with them splitting official affiliation with Wayland Games (I've also heard that the powers that be within the Ivory Towers strongly dislike BoW) how easy would it have been for Warren et al to blow their tops and tell GW to feth off, stopping all coverage of their games? It's what I would have done. Instead, they shrugged and just carried on, continuing to cover GW's new releases and give them coverage alongside other releases within the industry.
And that's perhaps the most important thing, they've not fallen into all of this petty "them vs. us" that seems to permeate this industry at times (despite being given massive excuse to do so!), instead they've got the fans in mind and understand that we are all here for the enjoyment of it. It seems fashionable to say "Warren is a pratt" or whatever, make sniffling little 'meh' noises at their blog. But, it's doing a job that very few other websites manage, and I hope they continue to do it.
Sorry to go on, and I know this isn't the place for it, but felt they needed some defending!

They are still in business because only very few do a better job at what they are doing. Their shows boost sales and what better thing for a game than increased sales.
And their game-weeks really help many people getting started with a game.
Also, there is not much "war" between companies in this business, we leave that mainly to the gamers and some GW-suit-gonzos and it actually is something that is not appreciated since it hurts tabletop more than it helps.
My guess would be the RPG.

Oh it's definitely a matter of taste, I agree. I'm also pretty sure there's a sizeable number of hobbyists who share my (and Kan's) view on those guys, though.
And there's the point I was trying to make, I guess; you can be pretty much acutely allergic to the slightest sight of BoW and still appreciate they have a place in promoting infinity, and a pretty significant one at that - as Kan should reasonably have concluded even from just what he himself posted.
It helps to point out I'm not disagreeing 'cause I like BoW. (Also, having just had to endure another of their awful clips to see some HIPS Halo ships I guess I just had to vent )
...As to magnetic cases, well, I guess if you always use a car to get to the FLGS it'll suffice (even the simple boxes Kalamadea proposes). I prefer either a bicycle ride or 12 miles each way on skates; pretty sure I'd arrive with a mangled mess of chipped and broken metal after a few runs of that, TBH.
And again, if your foam is killing your models, you're doing foam wrong. use sufficiently deep trays, cut to size, or get custom foam done and there's no problem whatsoever.
To each his own, but honestly, if there's a chance of cases taking a bit of a tumble, or just generally shaking about quite a bit, I would go with foam any day.

Exactly, Kan is contributing so much new and objective input, how could anyone mind his behaviour.
I'm torn on BoW, their shows normally aren't my cup of tea, but one has to give them credit for what they do like no other: promote the hobby and grow the community.
That this growth is at times too much to handle for CB is a different story, but I much rather sit through occurances of the producer of one of my sparetime joys being too successful, than having to find a comparable game (which currently doesn't exist imo).
Also without the second Infinity Week I wouldn't be reading all of the kindness for CB in here. It brought me back from the GWalking dead. Otherwise I'd still be doing desperate reanimation attempts at Necromunda.
I'm looking forward to this years Infinity Week and the RPG. Can't wait to get my hands on the fluff linked to it.
